Darkstalkers (Vampire) series appreciation thread

best reply ever:sweat:

Just getting into this game and it is very very hard but so much fun.

God I love rushdown Anakaris.

a quick question:
i have the japanese version of the Collection for ps2. On the booklet it says something about the ā€œsecret optionā€, since i dont understand japanese i looked at gamefaqs and found what i needed but… what are they? i mean what’s the use? When i enter in the ā€œsecret optionā€ menu i dont understand what i’m supposed to do.
Can u explain it to me?
Thx

Umm If I has recall it’ll let you do infinite specials, change dip settings, and etc…maybe I’m wrong I dunno…I’m not a doctor.

I just decided last night to start playing Vampire SAvior more often. I got that Capcom Fighting Evolution game for my birthday and started using Jedah and Dimitri and really dug them. I’m also a Castlevania freak, so a fighting game with a horror theme is right up my alley.

But I’m curious: Which VS game do you guys play? I have them both but can’t really suss out the difference between them (other than the obvious language differences.) EDIT: Never mind, I saw that there are a couple different characters/names that are different. Are there any other differences under the hood?

Only thing this game needs: A Belmont.

Fiol I advise you check this guide out. http://www.geocities.com/shadowjin_gpow/upload/vampirecollectionfaq.txt,
It should answer majority of your questions. About the Vampire Collection stuff.
Granted it doesn’t have info on what every star does it, it does have info on a few of them.

Basically it kinda lets you tweak the game to whatever arcade version you want to play. You can even make your own mishmash of a version playing around with the settings. If you ever wanted to see what it would be like if you cancel chain combos into specials, EX specials and ES moves you’ll probably get a kick out of it. Lol shit does way too much damage.

To DoctaMario:
Yeah, Vampire Savior is the one everyone plays for tournies. Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire Savior 2 aren’t that popular they are just weird additions with character change ups and gameplay system tweaks. Here are some changes from VS to VH2 and VS2:
-Air chains are gone. You can still make some if you practice timing but it is pretty strict and useless to try.
-Unique Dark Forces that have been replaced with a universal Dark Force that makes all your attacks do red damage(even chip damage!) and allows your character to do air chains.
-Some characters now have a command to use their original unique Dark Force’s from VS. Felicia’s kitty helper DF for instance is now done with rdp+KK.
-Some characters also got some new moves or the return of old moves such as:

Jedah’s guard cancel becomes a regual move and can be EX’d. dp+p
Lilith can use her qcb+K move in air can also be EX’d in air.
Morrigan gains her down kick special(the drill) from the previous games.
Bulleta gets a new but crappy ES move done with rdp+KK.

Sweet, thanks for the info Nona!

Thx i will read it later

Richtor or Julius ftw

I wanna get into this. I already know the basics for 2d fighters (spacing, poking, etc), and i have acces to 2df… Also : Savior or Hunter? And lastly… Any good tips on Demitri? bnb, strats, etc?

as demitri, control space w/ fireballs. his dp has some stupid priority.
play similar to ryu in this sense, slightly watered down.

he can rushdown with drill mixup. (learn the distance of those)

beyond that, theres more discussion in the vampire thread within the other games section of the boards.

I <3 this game. sf4 has absorbed my fg life atm tho >.> i recently formatted my computer for the 2nd time. will re-install ggpo & 2df soon at some point.

regarding ps2 collections dipswitches. the two presets make things so stupideasy^_^(if you don’t wanna eff around w/ all the additional junk)

Vampire Savior is an absolute beautiful game and one of the best fighting games I’ve ever played. Truly a masterpiece, the graphics, sound, characters are all awesome and very different. This game stands alone in my opinion, as one of the elite fighting games. Capcom will really be missing out by not creating a ā€œVampire Savior: HD Remixā€ as this game can once again be heavily popularized to the masses once more! The fans need this!

The game was never"highly populated by the masses" And even if they did remake the game, I HIGHLY doubt anyone would play it longer than 2 weeks because of whatever reason. The vampire savior we have right now is plenty good and yet very few/little to no one plays that game. So what makes you think that people are going to play a HD remix version of it? SF2HDR sucked ass imo(note it is just my opinion of it compared to the original ST) So if they made ā€œbalance changesā€ To characters in VS it would more than likely be terrible. It is already one of the most balanced games ever created

I hope Capcom does a Vampire/Darkstalkers 4.

It’s been way too long since the last one.

You’d think there be enough fans for a DS4 in Japan at least…

Hopefully, the success of SF IV convinces them to use that technology on another fighting game revival. Cameos of Morrigan and Felicia in other games just don’t cut it… especially if those games are console exclusives for Japan (Wii, Tats Vs. Cap) or the US (XBox, SNK Vs Capcom SVC Chaos)!

The Darkstalkers series was easily my favorite CPS-2 fighting game series. (Not that I hated the other CPS-2 games… Loved the VS and SF Alpha series.) I’m not a big fan of the original Darkstalkers game (bad control inputs, horrible imbalances, and a game engine that needed major retweaking!), but felt they got the series nearly perfect with Nightwarriors/Vampire Hunter (the best in the series and the best Capcom Saturn conversion pre-4MB RAM cart) and concluded it well with Vampire Savior.

At least the series got a decent collection on the PS2 and a nice Sega send-off (Vampire Chronicles) on the Sega Dreamcast. Too bad the PS2 DS collection never made it to the US. I’m glad as a big fan of the fighting games series that I bought the original PS2 release…

Good news for fans of the series is that the PS2 collection is still available in used copies of the first print run and re-releases.

honestly, i dont think capcom has the budget to do an hd vampire savior justice. there are so many animations to each character’s everything, its very easy to appreciate once noticed

So, I found some old archived DVDs of mine from years past, but i found something on them that a few of you might find interest in.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VWMXLKGS

In this archive are 5, 13-14 minute videos featuring Daigo VS beastage. I’m sure plenty of you have seen it on youtube, just figured I’d do all you VS fans a favor and let you have the actual files. Hopefully someone will at least get a kick out of these. And if you live under a rock and have never seen Daigo VS vids, you better download these, stuff is stupid.

I have like the best question ever. Why don’t people play it for a good while? I remember when it first got on ggpo a lot of ppl were playing then Poof al of a sudden no more players. lolol.

So I’m asking SRK as a whole what turns you off from the game? I’d like to know out of curiousity. Is it boring? Too out of there? Plays weird? Time consuming to learn another fighter?

Throwing my hat into the VS, Darkstalkers lovefest. The reason I don’t play it as much is for the simple fact that there isn’t a big scene for it. Lack of interest from other people really gets me down, that and you can only play 1P mode for so long on most fighters. But once in a while my friends and I will play a couple matches on RagingKeela’s VS cab between SF4 and 3rd Strike.

Fan-gasm moment: Lilith is totally hot. :wgrin:

I frankly love the DS series because

A) I love the way the fighting engine works with the power-ups. It was the first Capcom game series to incorporate ES and Super moves;
B) I LIKE classic movie and mythological monsters – every monster I could want to play as or against is in this game;
C) I don’t think the anime style artwork has really been equalled since this game; as good as the SF Alpha style was, I like DS better; Guilty Gear, while a decent art clone still isn’t as polished as this game is overall IMHO; IMHO, the DS series is probably the best-animated CPS-2 game series, too;
D) the controls from DS2 (Nighwarriors/Vampire Hunter) onwards are solid.

I know the series wasn’t as popular in the US as Japan but I could care less about that. I imported tons of games that never came over here on the Saturn and the Capcom conversions were always at the top of my list…

Frankly, there’s too much of a love affair of what’s ā€œinā€ for the moment and people skip out on some really good games with great characters.

Yeah, the game had so many frames of animation that it’s ridiculous.

Also, play this on GGPO more.
