'Darkstalkers' trademark renewed

its much more then the blood pump
Recreate all of Anakaris in one game engine all six normals, burning, turning into an egg, blood pump, midnight bliss, swelling, poison status while dizzied, freezing, his dark force also get creative make your own dark force for along with it, being electrocuted, and many more status effects the kicker is do all of this with out the use of super freeze to hide loading of another model not a single bit dark forces don’t even stop movement.

that right there proves you haven’t touched the game.

I would love HD sprites

I’m not saying it’s impossible. I’m saying that it isn’t going to happen anytime soon, and I highly doubt Capcom would care enough to actually go through with the effort of doing it. Maybe if Street Fighter was the one that required these sort of things, but until Twelve becomes a highly demanded character, I doubt Capcom will ever give enough of a shit to do anything other than what they’ve always been doing.

As for the Money for Nothing comparison - we’ve already got people saying that games like Uncharted 2 are looking dated. I remember trying to go back to playing God of War Collection just for the cheevos, and there were several parts where the game just looked awful. They didn’t look awful back then, but these days, they had me about to gag. 2D ages like wine, while 3D ages like milk.

And the “uncultured swine” thing was not serious. In any case, let’s just agree to disagree. You have faith in 3D, I don’t. Regardless, even if Capcom could pull it off and even if they did desire to pull it off - I wouldn’t want them to. I just vastly prefer the look of 2D over 3D. Personal preference.

Trying to appeal to a mass audience with Darkstalkers would be like trying to get men to seriously pick up the Twilight novels. Know thy audience. Any effort to make Darkstalkers into something it is not for the sake of sales will just lose the guaranteed sales (the Darkstalkers fans who are asking for the game in the first place) and not gain any threshold with those who are not guaranteed sales (LOL Fighting game with Monsters? Fucking lame. Why didn’t you spend the time making this trash on another Street Fighter? Fucking idiots running Capcom).

Only way they could get Darkstalkers to be successful with those it is not already successful with is if they shoehorned Akuma into the game. And Dante. And Jill. And Arthur. And whatever other horror-esque characters they might be able to shoehorn in for guest appearances that are still relevant to the LCD.

Ono’s engine already supports this (SFIV characters are squashed and stretched at certain points, e.g. 'Gief’s arms during Lariat).

The only question now is if the current console hardware can support something that relies heavily on this like Darkstalkers.

Who?

Dude seriously, what’s the problem if some people likes Sprites over 3D models?

You said it better

It’ll be fine. The squash/stretching can be done by bone scaling too, that’s probably what SF4 does. You could also even pull off the Rikuo sac stuff by having a few extra bones with blended weights on them and just scale the bones up progressively to bulge him in a sequence. You could do that on Blood Pump as well. We haven’t seen MT Framework used in a 1-on-1 tailored environment yet though, and that can do both and the vertex stuff I mentioned.

It’s really not expensive or over-ambitious. Anakaris’s bandage separation can technically be done by having two models even stretched apart by either bones or vertex with the use of extra leg bones weighted to a coil strip for example.

The current 360 and PS3 consoles can do this. They’ve got massive amounts of CPU threads for vertex pushing, and even then they don’t have to do that and could also get away with GPU vertex shaders for animation blending.

Then there’s also polygon swapping, which is what they did for Morg in TvC (and I believe MvC3 as well).

I prefer a new IP. Darkstalkers was always just OK (fuck you to every elitist that claims every old Capcom fighter was godlike), never amazing and it never got big in the US.

This is pretty exciting, I never played the game much at all, but I’ve watch a lot of it and know a fair amount about it. That characters are all fantastic and very unique, and there aren’t as many generic or similar character which can’t be said about SF. I’m hoping it’s fast paced rather than really campy, I haven’t played a lot, but from the little I have the game does focus on comboing more than SF (although not as much as Marvel).

So if this is the real deal, a new game. What roster size would you want/expect? Everyone returning? Cameos from other Capcom games? Would you be upset if the changed the fundamental mechanics of the game with something like a Baroque cancel, or teams/assists? 3D or 2D?

Fishing for likes

Well, the 2-D vs. 3-D discussion has been the hot topic for a good number of posts.

Actually, as far as combos go, it’s not particularly combo-intensive. VSav is all about short chains. Marvel series is MUCH more focused on combos.

Not as much as Marvel, but from the little I’ve played and from the many matches I’ve seen far more than Street Fighter, far more aggressive, way less pussyfooting. Very interesting supers.

Nah, it’s not even about sprites vs. models.

It’s the people that start moaning about Ono or Niitsuma as soon as the topic was created.

It is indeed more aggressive than SF. If you like the Marvel series, give it a go. Not sound like an advertisement or anything.

Well I plan on checking it most defiantly, DS was before my time (I’m still an undergraduate) but I play a decent Felicia in Marvel 3 and I find the characters very creative, unique, fun, particularly Q-Bee who has awesome specials. DS doesn’t have any mechanics like flight or teleporting though?

The motions for some of those supers were downright weird, though.

Like, who thought of stuff like :d::f::df: for Midnight Bliss?

HD sprites or Hand drawn sprites would be godlike. If SNKP and an indie company can afford to do these, Capcom has no excuse.

Wait does Capcom even produce fighters in house anymore?

Only Bee and Jedah can fly through Dark Force. The only “true” teleport is Zabel’s, and it’s ground-only. Lei-Lei and Demitri have their teledashes.

A few of the characters have flight in the form of Dark Force.

It’s definitely worth checking out. If you don’t mind spending a little money, I’d recommend a Saturn + V.Sav. One of the reasons I still have a Saturn hooked up.
