I never understood the story/roster stuff because I think whoever is developing the game, if they really wanted to, could have whoever in and not have every character involved with the story. Like Jedah is dead, so he doesn’t have to get a terrible ass Gouken type of story where he was sleeping for like 15 years just to be a playable character, just don’t have him a part of the current story like Kliff/Justice.
Cast size don’t mean shit. You don’t think those series had canonical events that thrown away or changed to fit what they want to do in the new games? You have someone like Bison who was canonically killed by Akuma in SFII but brought back in SFIV because Ono wanted him there. Made up some bullshit story about his scientists transferring his essence in some back-up body.
If Capcom wants to make a new Darkstalkers with most or all the original cast returning you’ll beat your ass they’ll ether change the story and/or disregard a huge chunk of it

Irrelevant. They can just add new characters. There’s more fantasy characters and horror characters they can add or even just make another of whatever monster.

yea, XF is the best mechanic since sliced bread. It really needs to be in the game because its a very deep mechanic. Being able to cancel block stun in 1frame, apply ridiculous damage and kill characters with the a simple magic series isn’t dumbed down or anything. it couldn’t actually be scrubby could it? the more you get your ass kicked, the stronger of a character you get. If I start beating my opponent, I put them in the strongest position in the game which is a god like character with XF3 and all they did was lose. Yea, really good stuff there

That may be true, but it’s less likely with DS because the franchise doesn’t have very many characters to begin with. 18 isn’t a whole lot, especially considering the roster size of other games out there.
KOF, SF, and Marvel can afford to omit characters simple because there are plenty of them. DS, on the other hand, can’t.

This wasn’t Capcom’s fault. Console hardware at the time simply couldn’t handle accurate arcade ports. Saturn + 4 meg cart was the first time accurate arcade ports were possible. They had to use shortcuts to get SFA3 on PSX as good as it was (weird console changes notwithstanding).

VH wasn’t sluggish and incomplete. That was the first DS. VH was just right. VS feels artificially sped up to me (like SNES HF on speed settings higher than 4). You’re right in that that it IS more like SF than VS was, and I can agree that’s my bias since I’m an SF player. But I like Marvel too. As I said, I don’t hate VS, I just think VH is a better game because it has more interesting versions of the older characters. As it is, Lilith, BBHood and Jedah are among my favourite DS characters , so I’m actually more inclined to play VS than VH given the opportunity.
Oh, and I seriously detests VS’ round system. All I could think of when I saw it is “they stole this from fucking Killer Instinct”, and it blows. I understand why they did it - they wanted to encourage momentum-based offense - but combined with everything else, made it a bit too rewarding to “get in there and mix it up”, and helps to further homogenize the characters.
re: VH tiers
The last tier list I had for VH was Gamest’s old one, which had Pyron no.1 with 6-4 and 7-3 matchups for nearly the entire cast. But I see there’s http://knucklebomb.aceboard.com/300046-159-1521-0-Tier-Lists-Vampire-Savior-Hunter.htm’]this list from 2007, which is actually fairly similar except it has Rikuo and Sasquatch much higher and Raptor and Anakaris much lower. Rikuo’s actually listed first now and Bishamon is still listed second (he was second in Gamest’ ranking as well, right underneath Pyron) and Pyron is listed 3rd. I always thought it ahem a bit fishy that Rikuo was listed low in Hunter by Gamest. Anyway, assuming it’s in order, Pyron is still top tier, though he’s no.3 instead of no.1. So my apologies.
Except I never said that. I said I enjoyed it more than MVC2.
