Darkstalkers: Support Ono with the franchise's revival

they should make it with the mortal combot with like real pictures from horror movies for their frames.

What? Real life pictures of a sasquatch and a human bee?

And don’t forget Mirror’s Edge and BioShock, totally Gears look-alikes as well :wgrin:

Don’t know how I missed this but, I did. Totally for a next gen Darkstalkers, even if it was “2.5D” as its been dubbed. Darkstalkers is such a good series, I don’t want VS to be the last one played competitively by a long shot.

You have every opportunity to get into it right now.
We can always have more people playing this game on GGPO.

Yeah.

So many people clamoring for a new DS, yet NO-ONE is playing the games already out except for the real fans online and the japanese. Hell, I’ve already made it a priority to post VC matches when I get back to GA in December, if I don’t find someone over here first.

But right, we need a new DS game so damn bad; so bad are people tired of everyone playing VS, because its so widespread and popular that we need a new title to renew our interest.

This thread and most of the people are asking for a new DS is so full of bullshit its not even funny.

Here’s how I see it, the only way we’re going to keep the fighting game genre from moving forward is by taking chances. No matter how risky a step may be, if you don’t take a step, you’re not going to go anywhere.

In Darkstalkers’ case, sure, there is a possibility that a new 2.5D version will flop. But even if the new game isn’t good, it’s not like the old Darkstalker games are going to magically go away. If the hardcore players that are resistant to change don’t like the new game, there isn’t anything stopping them from going back to VS and playing with the tiny community that they have on GGPO/2DF.

On the other side, there is a potential for the game to actually be successful and possibly add things to current fighting games that SFIV did not (e.g., faster and more complex gameplay in 2.5D). In addition, making a new Darkstalkers might give Capcom a chance to try radically different gameplay elements that may have been too risky to try in the SSFIV update.

So if Capcom was deciding between making a new Darkstalkers or leaving the franchise alone, I’d prefer that they take the risk, rather than just letting the franchise die, because there’s potentially something to gain by taking that risk, instead of doing nothing at all.

@Tech
It’s hard to get players to join a scene that is 1. small, 2. no real competitive “future” and 3. not many tournaments. A new DS would fix all those, imo.

You can flip the argument around, and ask how many people would start learning SFIV from scratch today if it was 10 years old, had a really small scene and wasn’t featured at at events?

Your anger at the people in this thread, including myself, is of course very warranted though. :bottle:
But popularity is worth a lot when it comes to deciding what fighters you spend your time on, especially if you don’t have much free time to spend.

When I was playing on 2DF alot, ghost town. : / We just need one release on next gen consoles and go from there.

I think he meant SF4’s graphic engine. TvC graphics, who the hell suggested that horrible idea.

To give you guys an idea of what a single engine is capable of, do some reading here:

Before you start complaining about the engine not being capable of running Darkstalkers, the same engine that ran Gears of War ran Batman Arkham Asylum and Mirror’s Edge.

Engines are very flexible.

with the current situation, no one really knows if a new VS\DS will sell well. I don’t see anything wrong with a re-release of VS no changes what so ever, just add net play. I see to many people saying they want to play and can’t wait yet the VS GGPO room is smaller than ever.

If VS sells well, then they can contemplate about bringing a new game to the series. VS2 had some changes to it that most players didn’t like and VS actually became THE game for the series.

to the people who want this on next gen consoles, this is NOT a pad friendly game. You will need a stick sooner or later all though kajoq and some other VS GGPO players tell its possible to play this game on a pad. Its mad hard to push block someone on one though.

I have an account on Capcom Unity and I posted on the thread.

Hopefully Ono-san will hear us out!

Darkstalkers! Darkstalkers! Darkstalkers! Darkstalkers!

Make a new Darkstalkers (with the SF Engine)!!!

how about a darkstalkers with a darkstalkers engine

oh and also just because we don’t play the 10 year old games every day on GGPO doesn’t mean we’re not fans

No. This is stupid. Have you played Darkstalkers? It’s an entirely different beast than SF.

SF4’s engine already ruins SF itself. It’d be even worse for DS. Darkstalkers is like a diving peregrine falcon with a jetpack while SF4 is a damn turtle. On top of that, the commands don’t need to be dumbed down or simplified in DS. If you can’t do it, then practice more. There doesn’t need to be 1 frame LINKS in a CHAIN COMBO based game.

Also I don’t want to see Talbain look more like a furry hulk than Talbain.

This is all that needs to be said. Not that it hasn’t been said other times in this thread.

tvc engine would be better suited imo

but whatevs…

For fuck’s sake, the “SF4 Engine” is a graphics render-er and command interpreter. Every game made with it doesn’t have to play just like SF4. You could probably re-make Quake with it if you wanted to.

What are you talking about? Top level DS is all about links…

TvC>SF4

Ive never played TvC but it sure looks a lot better than SF4 despite not being HD.

The likelihood of it remaining just that is extraordinarily slim.
That’s the point.
And considering that VS is a notch above SF in terms of balance and challenge, expect a lot of people to strike up a fuss when they are smart enough to know that “SF4 Engine” does not just mean, “3D models and Andre The Giant hands”.

Keeping the series intact outside of graphical renovations and simply letting it be the brilliant game it has become after perfecting the noticeable issues of the first two installments = piss poor sales.

Dumbing it down for casuals and banking on nostalgic fanservice and hollow promises to attract the OGs, hardcore fighting game enthusiasts, and the inbetweens who pretend they are good at those games to gain props from the community = $$$$$

Yeah that comment confused me as well. Yeah there are chains, but every chain combo needs to LINK into a larger combo string to do any decent damage anyways. Unless people think that cr.LK xx cr.LP with Bishamon is BUFFFF
