So just how exactly would we (fans) would go about to making this happen?
keep on bumping this thread? Posting on Capcom Unity? What exactly is needed for Capcom to really take us seriously?
And I also pose a question to all of you…Would you really play this game seriously? and competitively? Would you go out of your way to hype the Vampire series to those that have no clue about the series?
The reason I say this is because a few years ago everyone asked for Vampire Savior on GGPO and at the time everyone seemed so hype about it, and everyone was so stoked to play it, but after a few months…pooof…dead…only the hardcore players stuck around to play it.
I have faith though that a new Vampire game would generate a new fanbase of players!
So here’s hoping we get a new Vampire game very soon!
At this point I could care less about game system and mechanics, and to be honest…no one in America (aside from a few players) took enough interest in the Vampire series as a whole to say what should or shouldn’t be in the game.
VS is a game that should have a much higher profile than it does, and it’s a shame it gets so overlooked. But that said, a new game with some incredible graphics & sounds, a fun combat engine, and some serious hype would go a long way. Make it play like a next-gen version of VS and we’ll be in business.
Using the KOFXII engine wouldn’t magically make it look like KOFXII (just like using SFIV engine wouldn’t magically make it have SFIV style). You would also need the SNK artists, if you want it to look like that. I’m not sure Capcom has any pixel artists left.
Battle Fantasia has the feel of TvC, those games don’t feel fast at all. They just appear to look that way. If anything they should look into GG or BB type engines. If you guys have played the original darkstalkers I think you would understand. Most of the players in this thread have never even touched darkstalkers and just want a new game. But man, DS was a classic…it paved the way to games like GG,BB etc. mIRC is so right on this, no matter what capcom does it’s going to be no where as good as the original. We have to LEARN to love it like SF4. I am just hoping the game can maintain fast and fluid gameplay.
Imagines Jedah rushdown using the SF4 engine and shudders

^ Make it anywhere close to as fast and fluid like this and I won’t complain. SF4 still has some weird collision detection even though the game supports 2d hitboxes. It would definitely hurt a game like DS.
ITT we don’t understand what an engine is and debate about which engine would be better for a game. Yeah, because every game running on Unreal 3 engine has the exact same speed as Unreal 3 and is an FPS. Fucking idiots.
Gameplay speed and 3D/2D/Graphical style has nothing to do with each other at all. Just because there is no super fast 2.5d game(Can’t think of any right now at least) obviously doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
It probably could be done in 2.5d and be fast but why do people refuse to go back to 2d? Why is 3d and 2.5d the only solution? As far as 2d being too expensive capcom has more than enough to do it. The whole reason they won’t do it is because they are stingy and so is the majority of companies these days. BB looks great, even though it may lack some detail on the sprites the animation is very fluid.
It’s more expensive and less popular. I mean, I love great pixel art. But the masses doesn’t.
Expect some sort of return of 2D games(not that they’re lacking these days anyway, mind you) when the machines become capable of handling hi res drawn animation(rather than pixeled) that can be created by animation studios instead of pixel artists, I guess. Like, they could hire one of them anime studios to animate the characters.
Or they could do the Vanillaware paper doll style (Odin Sphere, Muramasa).
As seen on behind the scenes KOFXII, todays 2d fighters are based on a 3d reference anyway.

that daigo vid had pretty lame quality…This gives a better example of Jedah’s sick rush/mixup game.
If it makes you feel any better the same thing happened with kof98. Some games are just hella noob-unfriendly. For me I tried to get into VS but the game was so fast and some of the jump moves were so good like Gallon’s j.fierce and Sas’ hop/j.fierce it was kinda unfun to deal with for me.
That said I fully support a new game in the series. One of the few ‘fast games’ that is not a vs game or a newschool Japanese GG esque game.
Why not? A bad game existing isn’t always better than no game at all.
If all they do is outsource to 2nd party developers like Dimps or 8ing, then yes.
Tell me one good fighting game Dimps or 8ing has made recently.
Right. Just like SF4 was supposed to get a horde of new players into 3S? And KOF XII was supposed to get a bunch of new KOF 98 players?
Considering the ONLY good console port of VH and VS is Japanese PS2 exclusive, how likely do you think it would be for even 1/10 of the American audience to import a title for a dead system?
Crazier things have happened.
It’s Capcom for fuck’s sake. When do they EVER put in any work to seriously tweak their own engines?
Seriously, the entire SF2 roster in CFJ was ripped STRAIGHT from CvS2 for the love of shit.
Anyway, if this ever does happen, I’ll be all over it!!! I love DS, such an origional style and character design, there isn’t another game quite like it imo…
The game is a little…intense…to get into at first, but the main thing that turned me off it was the fact that I’d have to go thru GGPO/2DF to play it. Being pretty much terminally unable to host (short of a complete ISP change) severely limits the already small pool of (much better) people I can play against. If this stuff was on console netplay like PSN/Live, I’d gladly put in more time with the game, because finding people to play against at or above my level would be brain-free.
That’s one advantage a new DarkStalkers game would have over VS, but it’s still a pretty long shot that it will ever actually get made, at least in a form where it would be anything like VS.
