DARKSTALKERS RESURRECTION coming to XBLA and PSN

I don’t believe that at all, and it’s absurd to me to think that a company would gauge interest in a new title by looking at the sales of a re-booted title with additional online and achievements. I believe it would be best to go ahead and starting making that new title, start a great marketing campaign, and release it.

It’s not that absurd, given Darkstalkers was never a popular franchise. However that’s not to say if they went ahead and invested in a full blown next gen title that it couldn’t be successful, but they’d be taking an incredible risk that’s based purely on faith in the potential of the IP and not actual data.

I personally would love a next installment and believe in it’s potential for future success amongst a wider audience. I also realize my career and millions of dollars aren’t at risk to bet on this either.

Yeah, that’s true, too. I guess it could have gone either way. So weird how things are done these days. Companies can’t take risks like they used to.

I would’ve wanted a new installment of the game I’m currently playing as I type, and I think that even if they got it wrong on their first try they still would have a chance to fix it just as they’ve done with SF4 and MvC3 or any of their previous titles from SF2 to SFxT. I won’t give up hope for a new DS game. I will always voluntarily contribute even if its nothing official. I’m getting more responsibilities in my life, and I have to cut a chunk of my dedication towards video games at some point. I just don’t want that to happen before Darkstalkers 4.

I suspect Capcom is still developing Darkstalkers but won’t be unveiled until after the next gen has successfully established a substantial sized userbase. Or it’s quite possible that they’ve indeed canceled development due to perceived lack of interest due to poor sales of Darkstalkers Resurrection, and have started on the much safer and more lucrative Capcom VS series using only their own characters.

lol, I’d be all for it as long as they give Morgan and Felicia a rest. Get someone like Lord Raptor in a game or Rikuo… BBHood?

Well, in any case, Capcom

I posted this in another thread but it I believe it relates to the current discussion

realistically what option(s) does Capcom have in regards to their FGs franchises?

keep milking SF4 after Ultra @ 2014?
UMVC3 is not likely to get patched because of reasons above (licence with Marvel). MVC4?
SFxT is a commercial fail in Capcom’s eyes and I don’t see any reason why they would bother with it at this point.

Process of elimination says a new Darkstalkers but we know how much Capcom likes to troll the fans with that.

Other Fighter IPs they can ressurect.
Rival Schools
Cyberbots
Slam Masters
Plasma Sword
Tech Romancer
Power Stone
Warazard

Or…
Make another CFJ/CFE.
Get another license (besides marvel) and make a fighter with it
Make a fighter with an IP that isn’t one (Look at Cyberbots and Sengoku Basara X)
Hell, they can make a completely new IP instead of rehashing.

It’s not in any order but that’s what they can do instead of Darkstalkers. It’s not there is few options there is plenty they can chose from. Or keep riding SF4 which they are.

As much as people say Capcom has every right to not do DS4 because DSR flopped(?), they do have that right, but it would be stupid. I’m not gonna touch on how DSR is old and all that shit, or how they have already released bullshit versions of the games, JUST before DSR (casuals don’t think the PS1 versions are BS), OR how Capcom waited too late.

From a pure strategic business standpoint, you can’t do Crossovers and SF forever, you’ll run the risk of brand fatigue. You need to rest these franchises at some point, but to continue making money off of your fighting game divisions, you gotta replace SF and crossovers with something. Enter Darkstalkers.

Wait til next gen and make sure Darkstalkers 4 is the greatest fighter you’ve ever made and it will sell. I hope they just leave the series alone cuz they suck at making fighting games, but as someone in charge, I’d take the gamble with a cult franchise which has vast potential to make money then run my flagships into the ground like Megaman or RE. MM and RE have the potential to make millions but due to constant releases and a drought of useful ideas, they have to shelf these guys and scramble with a shit load of new IPs to replace the previous revenue those franchises brought in.

Honestly Darkstalkers 4 is probably inevitable. Or maybe not, I know Sven was smart as Hell about this shit and prolly VOLUNTEERED to leave cuz they didn’t listen to CapUSA as much as they should have. You can’t sit here and say that Darkstalkers 4 is too much of a risk and ignore shit like Dark Void, DmC, Dragon’s Dogma, Bionic Commando and Lost Planets 3, even after 2 flopped. Companies take risks ALL the time and DS4, in truth, aint as much a risk as the titles I just named. They’re gonna do it at some point and I will rage when they fuck it up. I’m gonna be the asshole who constantly reminds people “It’s PoS, I told you so.”

@jedpos

lol cmon do you think they’re actually gonna choose those even more-niche minor literally unknown fossil cult franchises you listed for their brand new FG over Darkstalkers?

…you know what, seeing that they went ahead with stuff like Tatsunoko x Capcom and SFxT that no one asked for, it wouldnt surprise me one bit if Capcom makes some Warzard 2 x Startrek or some shit while saying ‘Not enough interest in Darkstalkers franchise, no plans as of now’

If you think no one wanted to see a SFXT you’re insane.

This.

Regardless of it’s outcome, it’s still a crossover of two of the biggest and longest running and relevant fighting game franchises.

As for TvC America didn’t support Tatsunoko cause of the system, but everyone was excited to see another game like Marvel. Which was a big enough success to warrant a re-release of Marvel 2 and guess what that lead to.

Darkstalkers isn’t as popular as you believe it is. Deal with it. Sure you know my feelings on new one and Mightymar’s as well, you probably believe I’m coming off a little biased. Hell, there is a few games I wished Capcom made a sequel for, but guess what I don’t blame them for not making it.

You don’t go all in on a roulette table you place a few small bets see how the ball goes. Then you take a few bigger bets on the safer places once you have nice understanding how it’s moving.

I am fully aware Darkstalkers was never popular as SF and MvC in the west.
However its by far the most requested and realistic IP for a new FG than those obscure ones you listed.

Then the sudden release of DS:Res in 2013, its hard not to speculate something may be in the works. They can’t rely on SF4 and MvC3 forever for their fighting games division.

Fact is, unless you work for Capcom, none of us know whats in the works or what their roadmap plan is. There may be a new DS in 2014 on current gen, it may be for 2016 next gen, or it may never come out ever.

But anyone that follows Capcom FGs news should have already developed immediate skeptism when they say ‘we are done with/no plans to update insert latest version of game’ type of comments. Anyone that positively believes everything anything that Capcom says is a retard.

If Ono said Rival Schools people would be asking for Rival Schools. The thing is he said another Street Fighter Alpha game as well during the development of Street Fighter x Tekken. Does that mean another Alpha game as well?

"Anyone that positively believes everything anything that Capcom says is a retard."
Then you fall under that category as well then for believing they were working on it.

^
I love how you assumed the extreme of I must be believing everything Capcom says is not true = I must be believing that a new DS is currently underwork when I stated nobody (incl myself) really knows whats going on with Capcom and DS franchise.
reading comprehension problems?

Well, you’re not compromising on that Capcom themselves stated they have nothing planned for Darkstalkers.

I don’t know anyone who wanted that game. When it was announced people thought, “Oh Cool”, but I never heard or seen people ask for it. I personally hated the game when it was just a rumor.

Dragon’s Dogma does not belong here. That game was actually a success for Capcom.

The best time to release a DS4 would be around when next gen hits. That’s a time when a company will be more willing to take more risk with there games. Releasing on the new consoles as there won’t be any competition in terms of other fighters and few games available when a new console launches. Release it on current hardware where rules become more latex opening them up a bit. If they have something plan the time is now.
