DARKSTALKERS RESURRECTION coming to XBLA and PSN

I don’t understand why there’s always a flood of people getting hyped for releases of old games that already exist on ggpo. Are people really that ignorant about ggpo? This new release isn’t going to have better or on par netcode with ggpo. If anything, all this release does is make Ponder have to remove VSAV from ggpo, so you’ll be stuck with the same game but with subpar netcode.

wow i’ve never knew that there was two of them.

I think Felicia is a very good starter character. Very good normals, both in the air and ground, fast jump, good high/low mixups with her dash. She may be the best character to start the game with.

With all that said, you should honestly use who you like the most. If you like BBHood/Jedah/Lei lei more, I’d say go with one of them.

Excerrent. Felicia is probably my favorite DS character (her or Anarkis since I loved the mummy as a child) so I’m glad to know I won’t lose my mind trying her out first. IIRC, can’t she cancel her dash for overhead attacks?

Two questions (not sure what the best place to ask this is):

What is the proper input to practice for IAD? Simply tapping UF, neutral, then tapping forward?

Over on dustloop someone was recommending pressing forward, moving directly to UF, neutral, then tapping forward. What is the purpose of the initial forward press here?

Second question: What are the first things you would suggest a Zabel player learn?

she can cancel her dash for an overhead.

You can either press UF, neutral, F or UF, neutral, UF. I’m not too sure which is better to learn tho.

not too sure about the F, UF, neutral, F method.

as far as advice when learning Zabel, get a good understanding of his normals. He has something for [S]almost[/S] every situation. Learn to IAD very low to the ground, if you dash over a standing character you’re not low enough. And last, Zabel doesn’t have the luxury to downback because of his crouch walk. So that’s something that may take some time getting used to.

! Ugh why didn’t I try UF,UF. I’ll go see if that helps. I think my lowest airdash was with my feet near Victor’s shoulders, which isn’t so great, especially after seeing this image-

Yeah the crouch walk thing is weird, but I can deal with that. I think effective movement around the screen will be the thing I try to work on most for now.

Two things. One, this remake will have GGPO, and IG has improved their implementation of it in MvC:O and will likely do so again for this game, on top of being very willing to pay out of their own pocket to patch any problems that may arise.

Two, GGPO can be finicky for a lot of people as it is. People would rather not have to take 10 minutes just to actually be able to get into a match if at all. Usually the only way to remedy this permanently for most is to upgrade your comp, which costs more than $15. Even opening ports is not full proof.

On top of that, with lobbies it becomes possible to run (or at least easier) 24/7 streams if anyone so desires.

And lastly, what’s bitching about it gonna do? People can’t exactly get mad about no longer being able to play something for free when you’re technically not supposed to do anyway. Does it suck that people won’t be able to play VSav on GGPO for free anymore without jumping through hoops or taking over another room? Sure. But there are a lot worse things than having both VHunt and VSav on GGPO anyway with lobbies and Youtube replays (which they curiously left out of MvC:O). The only legit reasons from a general standpoint to be angry would be either A) You don’t have a PS3 or 360 or B) you’re cheap. Well actually, cheapness isn’t a legit reason, so only if you don’t have a console.

As long as VSav’s (and VHunt’s, can’t leave it out) best players are able to mention and hammer into Iron Galaxy what needs to happen and not happen with the port, nothing should go wrong. If, and ONLY if something goes wrong with the rerelease, should the bitching commence, but if something goes bad, Ponder will just put the games back on GGPO.

There is a suspicious space for five more squares hm…

Jed, there was a complete translation of the dip switches?

I know thats a mistake to say this thing here… but I never thought that there is something like style to fuck with in SF2. Maybe I think in such way because I started playing FTGs in '98 and after LB\Garou\SF3… SF2 just didn’t make any impression on me in “style” department.

I also don’t give a damn about “messing with balance” because I’d better play a real HD remix where I can learn\discover(i really don’t know which word i shoul put here) new things about the old game than port of a game that was effortlessly crapped out.

This is definitely something they should do. Pushblock/“tech hitting” is probably the most important universal mechanic in Darkstalkers. Guard cancels are also important, but Resurrection should definitely include a pushbock tutorial.

I fully agree.

any good youtube channels you guys recommend?

Are there any guides out there to playing Aulbath/Rikuo? Either text or video is fine.

Edit: this seems to be a great resource http://wiki.mizuumi.net/w/Vampire_Savior/Aulbath

I’d rather have the experience of playing the old game with new people. Besides, exactly who has asked for a rebalance of VSav? On top of that, what’s the point of rebalancing a, what’s it been, 15 year old game not to mention an extremely balanced one? Just pointless at that point. Are they supposed to rebalance it just for the sake of saying they did it and put more work into it?

Sometimes the easiest things done are the best things.

No, there was a few attempts even though the Japanese lists were even incomplete.

Here is a good example why Bishamon is better than Pyron in Hunter.

I’m down for tech hit practice. In an ideal world, it would discuss different techniques.

This thread, while updated sparsely, is a good resource after looking over his Mizuumi page:

And this is a handy frame data guide when you need a quick look (for all characters):

This guy uploads tons of Vampire footage

Ego (One of Japan’s best Lei-Lei’s) has his own channel full of tournament footage as well

EDIT: SuperFreak beat me and went beyond.

On the subject of differences between PS2 and preferred arcade editions: According to the Darkstalkers Frame Data site, the PS2 version of Night Warriors always lets Rikuo’s Poision Breath and Sonic Wave work against opponents trapped by Water Jail, no mater what the dipswitch settings are. But in the 950302 arcade version, which is the tournament standard, they don’t work. This needs to be addressed.

I translated the Darkstalkers Frame Data site’s list a while back. Link
