Darkstalkers Everything thread

its Vcollections & arcade only, too; right?

and w/ lilith vs. morrigan, I find this. b/c morrigan flies, she has a much easier time getting in on the opponent. she also gets a hi-lo mixup from fly-dashing. her down-up sj tracks, so if you knockdown, you dont halfto worry about those 50/50 “should I dash left or right to keep on top of them”. to me, being able to land more hits>landing a guaranteed hit into super.

morrigan can also do d.mk, +d.lpXXDI. tho she has to be a bit higher than normal.

lilith’s df(ligh & medium df’s), and none DI supers ARE better than morrigans tho. and her DI goes significantly farther than morrigans.

also, lilith’s rushdown ends up being pressure, pressure, pressure, mixed up with throws which will more than likey be teched.

her command throw sets up nicely off a c.mp, but is too easy to see coming.

iono… i halfto goto ctf, and play w/ just these two whores.

How’s the DS Collection port of VS? I was thinking of picking that shit up.

it’s fun, but it’s a handheld fighter… it’s not the same… but it’s probably the best port a sony system has ever seen of a vampire game (saturn obviously holding the place with having the best :-D)

he said ds collections, not vampire chronicles :stuck_out_tongue:

ds collections is arcade perfect apparently, w/ the right switches turned on

ds collections… isn’t that the one for PSP? vampire chronicles is for dreamcast…

Lilith does have a good hi/low mixup: straight super jump HP, HK or straight sj HP, crouch lk. if you guard sj HP, you gotta decide FAST where you want to guard next. and if you pick the wrong one, it’s DI. DI is where damage is at, and lilith got better(and more reliable) ways to land it.
defensively, tiger knee’d fireball > pretty much everything morrigan has. she can keep half the cast away with that, and it fills meter hella fast.

bishamon’s ES unblockable can be setup from blocked string, but will never be unblockable if cancelled from a normal move, even if you got the right distance. it will only work if you land it as a link. and it won’t work on a grounded gallon, whatever the case may be. his EX(the HCF KK one) can be landed as an unblockable, but i don’t really know any reliable setup, except on gallon.

by the way, zabel is broken.

Hey CigarBob, thanks for the vids! Somebody should’ve thanked you already but anyways good stuff. LOL, it just to show what an INSANE following VS has in Japan. You’ll never see that here, and why I don’t know. We have a bigger population than them yet video games are a serious past time in Japan. It’s taken very casually here in the US though. I’d play a lot more if I could find peeps in my area to lay the smackdown with. Too bad, because my Sega Saturn with MAS Sticks is itchin’ for some VS competition.
BTW, some of those videos play on my Microsoft XP Media Player with these computerized visuals. I can hear the match but I can’t see it! At least 1 of the links worked though.

Any opponent in the corner vs. Bishamon with multiple super meters= dead opponent. It’s almost not fair!

Any more vids? Sites with typed combo guides (the great combos, infinites, or unblockables)?

Keep up the good posts. I thought I learned all there was about the game. It’s nice to see what I’ve been missing though. Now I just need to find a place in New England where there might be a VS game. I wonder if a few people could even host a VS get-together beatdown fest?!? :wonder:

VS for XBox Live. Problem solved… wake me ‘cause I’m dreamin’. It’d be hella nice though. :lovin:

Darkstalkers Collection = PS2 version with the entire series on it
Vampire Chronicle = Dreamcast Version, similar to Hyper SF2
Darkstalkers Chronicle: Chaos Tower = PSP version

oh aite coo, my bads

how is that version?

It’s called “Vampire Chronicle,” no “s,” and it’s for the Dreamcast console, not the Saturn. Vampire Chronicle for Matching Service.

Any chance of this game ever comin’ out to XBox live? Or is it too complicated?

wtf is the matching service? for vampire chronicles and puzzle fighter for DC (those are the only two i know)

Matching Service? It used your modem to dial up someone else’s phone number. Other than the ones you mentioned there was Super Street Fighter II X, SFZ 3, etc…There are others, but I don’t feel like remembering/listing all of them.

“Matching Service” was pretty much Capcom’s own network (in Japan), but it was pretty laggy because it was dial up and not broadband. Also, all the servers were taken down a long time ago (obviously).

This is one of the four arcade machines I own. Perfect condition, too. One thing about VS that pissed me off is how they made vamp savior 2 and took out Galon. Those bastards. The coolest character in the game, and they take out for the lamest in the game (both end bosses are retarded from the original). What a dirty shame.

Just reading this thread made me jump on the machine and play for a good hour tonight. Great thread!

Woah, yeah. My mistake. I was even thinking Dreamcast when I typed Saturn.

Hiya was wondering which is the most Balanced Darkstalkers game? I hear Vampire Savior’s the most balanced.
BTW what’re your opinions of Phobos? He’s my main in Darkstalkers.

vampire savior

VS2 was gay IMO cuz of the darkforce… and imbalances… DS and VH i never really played to give my opinion on

The gameplay in the original Darkstalkers is too outdated to bother analyzing it, compared to NightWarriors(NW) and Vampire Savior(VS) anyway. NW was a fantastic game! The cast was very balanced too. VS was also fantastic but quite a bit different from NightWarriors (NW) due to some completely new moves and some deleted moves that were in NW and weren’t carried over to VS. Also, maybe the biggest addition were the DarkForce abilities for each character as well as the new characters (Jedah, Q-Bee, BB Hood, and Lilith. Gone though was Donovan, Pyron, and Huitzil for Arcade (not in US Arcade version, and I don’t think Jap. version either). Plus the Dark Forces(DF) were pretty much different for most of the fighters. This definitely made each DF unique and enhanced each characters strategies. It was an even more drastic game engine change than SFA1 to SFA2 was. SFA2 had Custom Combos which SFA1 didn’t have, yet the customs all worked the same— allowed you to chain normals and specials into each other. Not the case with the DF’s though… almost all of them had very different characteristics.
With that said, I’d probably say that NW is a little more balanced than VS., but both games are hella tight anyway compared to most other fighters out there. If this game was distributed more when it 1st came out, I’m sure it’d have a bigger following. Most peeps don’t know the true bliss that is the Darkstalkers series 'cause at times it may be a bit too deep for them to want to invest the time to learn it. In the end though it’s worth it. There is NO other game quite like it and I wish they’d consider it for XBoxLive. But then again, how do we expect them to port Darkstalkers when they haven’t even worked out all of the current problems with online play in the other games for XBoxLive.
BTW, Phobos (aka Huitzil) is pretty decent in NightWarriors (ranked about 7th out of 13), mid-tier character at high level competition. As for Vampire Savior, I’d say he’s bottom mid tier at high comp. level for home version ('cause he’s not selectable for Arcade). But what do you like about playing him? I find him to get a little boring after a while, just not as exciting to use as the other fighters, although still challenging because he’s tough to use effectively at high level of comp. Also, his jump was always a little annoying to control in a heated battle (sort of like Anakaris jump/float). :arazz:

phobos is in the arcade version of vampire savior 2

and no, the dark forces aren’t really that different. there’s really only 4 different dark forces…
multiple character - talbain, lilith, morrigan
super armor - lei lei, zabel, sasquatch
free movement - jedah, queen bee, aulbath
secondary character - felicia, demitri, bishmon
