I haven’t gotten a chance to pick up SF#11 due to the lack of supply at my comic shop back home, but I DID get to pick up Darkstalkers#1. I wasn’t expecting much from the series as I didn’t know anything about it beforehand but I said I would give it a shot since it’s by the same people behind my favorite comic SF. Anyway, I really liked it. While reading it, the whole thing played out like a movie to me; good direction. I was surprised at some parts as I had not expected such violence and sexuality from the SF guys, but again, I liked it. I’m impressed.
Only thing I didn’t like about the issue is the Cheap Shots like counterpart at the end. Are these really necessary?
I’m with Irish Gamer on Darkstalkers 1. There wasn’t anything overly special about it at all. The set up part was ok with the man talking about Darkstalkers, but the Morrigan stuff seemed like a bit too much filler. It felt like it should have been in an issue zero or a back up story, but not something to devote such a large part of the issue to. It was just the first issue though so I still expect great things. I’m more excited about this comic than Street Fighter.
Now, Street Fighter was really good. At first I didn’t like the art style in this issue at all(spoiled by Alvin) but now I think it’s awesome. I hope the person(people?) who did this issue stick around. The Rose back up story I have mixed feelings on. It didn’t seem special enough to be a backup story. To me this really sticks out as something that should have been in the main story. Then again, that’s why it’s here as a back-up I suppose so it really can’t be helped, so if anything I’m just thankful it was shown at all. The art by Middleton was awesome and I love how Rose was in her ALpha 2 ending outfit. That’s some boob-pushing corset she’s got on there :wow:
I didn,t really like issue 11 of st. Well darkstalkers has incredible art and the violence and the sexuality rock. So far i like the darkstalkers comic better. Street fighter should have more violence. Yeah for violence
I enjoyed both. In fact, I actually enjoyed reading about Morrigan, a character I could care less about. I hate to say it but having Street Fighter Land makes Cheap Shots…boring. It was much better as the single pagers. Anyone who flushes Akuma deserves props.
I’m quite impressed with both DS#1 and SF#11! ^^ Although I now have a SF#11 in reserve for me to pick up at my Space Cat (along with 9 and 10) I wasn’t able to get DS#1 since they were sold out! However, hopefully i’ll be able to pick up a copy soon! ^^
SF#11 had THE best fight that i’ve seen so far! The Cammy vs Chun Li was so kick ass! Chun Li practically thrashed Cammy over there! And I didn’t knew that they were that tough and powerful! Her Kikyosho was awesome!
As for DS#1, its off to a pretty good start! ^^ The part involving Pyron was pretty interesting and Morrigan and Demitris introduction was hella sweet! Now to wait for DS#2! ^^
Was Morrigan’s character “Ann” a play off of Ann Rice? Also, I’m being nitpicky–I thought that in the game Demitri was banished 500 years ago? I ask since it stakes Morrigan being a little over 300 and would thus not have witnessed the actual banishing. Unless this is a USA/Japan name switch, I thought that Donavan’s sword was named Killshread instead of Dhylec.
I disagree. I appreciate the fact that Udon are starting the DS comic off at a steadier pace, since it gives the reader more time to adjust to the environment and leaves them drooling for more in the next issue. Introducing Morrigan doing what she does best was a very clever and efficient way to create a first impression of her personality. But what irked me ever-so-slightly is that she killed a perfectly honest man to do it. I don’t want to sound like a bleeding-heart saint, but the injustice in that scene troubled me. Satisfying one’s lust is one thing, taking advantage of the virtuous is another. I guess Morrigan really holds no love for humans after all. _
SF#11 was quite special to me, because I’m a huge Cammy fan (like many other guys here) and my best friend is a Chun-Li fan. So we kept on placing higher and higher wagers as to who would win as the fight raged across the pages. In the end, we both lost. But still, any comic that can get us to do that deserves acclaim. With the new co-operation of Interpol and Delta Red, I have high hopes to see Chun-Li and Cammy saving the world side-by-side in future issues.
well the man was clearly living in poverty/poor and didn’t have much of a life to begin with. i liked the introduction to darkstalkers ive played the game a few times and the only characters which ever caught my eye were felicia and morrigan. which made me glee with joy when she seemed to dominate the first issue. i luv the vampirellesque bedtime outfit she wore. p.s why on earth r morrigans wings on her back so low and small?
Yo, they’re Darkstalkers, not good guys, not nice people, not skip along the streets and hug everyone kinda dudes. These are your classic badguys, living off the souls or blood of us Humans and normally enjoying it too. We’re there meat.
Normally the really good people taste all the better as well.
Sure, they’re are a few freaks who fight for the human cause but they’re few and far between.
So if the comic was to show that side of it, it seems to have worked at least. Hmm, I remember the days Cat-girls/guys were bad as well, eating human flesh. Alas, these days they’re all cute and cuddily.
I really enjoyed the comic - kinda wish it was longer but no real complaints. A darker sexier comic is always good. I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing the darkstalkers place in the world as well as to each other. Heck, I personally would like some stories to just revolve around just one of the Darkstalkers (like this one but longer) in some sort of classic horror tale. Course that is why I love Darkstalkers anyway. But this time hopefully the monster will win.
As a note:
I always thought Morrigan was a Succubus - entering mens dreams, leading them to temptation and just as they’re at there um - sexual peak then steals there souls - sort of like the extreme sexy lady ya not meant to touch. Now it sorta looks like that in the comic but there’s also a load of blood on the floor where he’s laying - plus his trousers is still on - so is Morrigan a vampire? Not tha it matters much.
Characters I’m most looking forward to: Q.bee, one of the only one I can remember the name of… maybe. The kung-fu werewolf, british rocker zombie, Donovan and Hsien-ko if thats how ya spell it.
I’m sure she’s still a Succubus, and like you said, if she comes to him in his dreams, why would his pants be off? Also, I think they added the blood as artistic license to show that “hey, this guy’s really dead, no question about it, move on to the next panel”.
Issue 11 (SF) was good (as usual), Ive managed to pick up Cammy power foil very happy
My local retailer didnt had DS (yet, well he said that, so punished him and demanded that he would order it lol) On the other hand I can always try and order the Morrigan power foil through the internet
Due to Morrigan’s comments, it seems almost like (in her own mind) she was doing him a favor. Basically it was, “Yeah, they die but their life sucked anyway and their death and afterlife will be pleasurable.”
Both issues were nice. DS had a good story overall (even if it lacked action, which is not that bad) and SF11 had a nice fight and some good characterization. I liked the pacing on both, but i feel the best balance (so both action and story fans will be pleased) was something like issues 8-10.
2nd printing of SF11 will have fixed pages, i assume?
I loved the DS issue it’sa great start and I’m glad they’re not in some made up world or something like the anime made it seem. Are they in modern day or late 1800-ish? Oh and the old dude’s comments about the cat people sounded good; I remember at least I think that somewhere in the canon story line people were debating how Cat-people should be treated or something
