Steam release times from various sites… I guess it’s accurate? Got my PC version for $48 from gmg.
Looks about right. Pre-ordered games on PS4 usually unlock at 10:00PM for people in my timezone, the day before the actual release date.
I said it fuck it and brought the deluxe edition. Having the game pre-load now. It’s gonna be fun heading into a Souls game completely blind.
Lol dex builds are so good in this game tho, once I finish my current STR/faith I’m going to do a dex int build.
[details=Spoiler]A lot of the cooler looking boss weapons like the ghost dancers blades and the greatly improved whip combat are dex weapons.
Their move set is fantastic.
Also the fist weapons are impressively buffed[/details]
That’s good as fuck to hear Toddler.
Let me know if those framerate drops are still gonna be an issue. Gonna grab it on the ps4 later but gonna see what happens after it gets its second patch.
I’m gonna go dex/int because I’m cool like that. It’s balls that I’m not gonna be able to play it until the afternoon tomorrow cos our couriers are shit.
I’m undecided on which direction to go on my build. I had a strength build in DS1 and went dex for DSII. Though it might be fun focusing on pryomancy this time around.
Been dodging this in case spoilers but the time is finally upon us and I’m ready to take 2/3 days out of my life to play this.
Gotta stick to tradition and make my first build a Gattsu build.
I’m going in blind. Never played a Souls game but I’ve played the hell out of Bloodborne (maxed out all of the character slots from all my builds).
my collectors edition will be available to pick up from the postoffice around lunchtime.
I won’t get there until after i quit work in the evening though.
Will try to play during the evening as much as i can.
It will all be a matter of “i should really go to sleep or i’ll really regret that i didn’t”. Quote by random genius.
Steam version unlocks in 7 hours for me.

PC VS PS4 version comparisons. Graphics are 99.9% identical, the only real differences is on PS4 the game runs at > 30 FPS with stuttering(par for the course for console Souls games not the Scholar re-release) and if you have a good PC you can potentially play @ 60 FPS.
Honestly, regardless of how this game runs on my rig, I think I might double-dip anyway.
Any spoilers in that vid? Like bosses and areas and such that weren’t in the very first few trailers?
A few general first time tips.
Heavier armors affect absorption but there’s a flat damage absorption amount per slot regardless of gear type, so make sure you wear something in every armor slot.
Don’t get to to hung up on worrying over your equip load early game.
@“The Martian”
I watched that video your asked about, no spoilers
This next boss I’m going to do has my favorite soundtrack in the game, and is just one of the more exciting fights in the game:
[details=Spoiler]Lothric, Younger Prince and Lorian, Elder Prince
This is a pretty interesting boss fight for a couple of reasons. When you first enter the arena, you will get a cutscene, and then you will square off against Lorian, who wields a massive, fire-infused, Ultra Greatsword. At first, it seems like a typical fight against a giant dude with a big sword, but it gets a little more interesting because the boss can teleport around the room, adding some difficulty to the fight.
Lorian himself isn’t terribly scary in general. He isn’t terribly aggressive, nor does he do very long blockstrings; so you should have plenty of openings to attack him (he will usually just do 3 hit combos, roll through them, in back of Lorian and go for a punish). He does do massive damage and have great range though. Also, as mentioned before he will teleport around the room, making it difficult to keep track of him. Most times he will begin an attack right after a teleport too, so it is crucial that you scan the room to get a read on where he will be appearing. He also has a few projectile type attacks: one horizontal fire blast that comes after he grabs his sword with both hands and rears back slightly (this move actually comes out pretty fast) and another he will do after he teleports where he will grab his sword with both hands, raise it to the ceiling, and then eventually bring it smashing down: it shoots out a magic projectile that goes very far and does absolutely massive damage. This move is pretty easy to see coming, so simply dodge left/right through it. Also, Lorian will occasionally stand up (I forgot to mention that he crawls around on his knees), grab his sword with both hands, and bring it down for an easy to dodge overhead strike. Make sure to punish Lorian after this move.
Once you have defeated Lorian, you will get a cutscene and the second stage of the fight will begin. During this stage, you will be fighting a more powerful version of Lorian, and his brother Lothric (who rides around on Lorian’s back). Lorian’s moveset remains basically the same throughout this stage of the fight, although he does get a bit more aggressive, and some of his projectile attacks (particularly the fire attack mentioned above) will cover a larger area. Lothric is mostly there as a sort of “support” character. He doesn’t really do any physical attacks, but he will attack you with magic throughout the fight. He does one magic attack where he will summon a bunch of “pursuers” that will track you. When you see these it is best to dodge around until they are gone, because if you go in to attack Lorian and then get clipped by one of the pursuers you will get stuck in blockstun, leaving you open for one of Lorian’s massive attacks. He also does a “Soul Arrow” type projectile that is easy to see coming, but comes out very fast and does really solid damage. When you see this move coming, just dodge left or right (Lothric will typically only do this if you are far away). One tricky thing about the aforementioned Soul Arrow, is that after shooting it, Lorian will usually teleport in for an attack (think Dhalsim). This can be pretty scary, but just dodge until you get a read on where Lorian is. Similar to the first stage of the fight, after a teleport, Lorian + Lothric will wind up, point to the ceiling, and then bring their swords down for a massive projectile attack. As before, dodge left/right away from this attack (don’t get hit by this as it is totally devastating).
The interesting thing about this fight is, as you probably assumed, both Lorian and Lothric have separate health bars. In addition to that, when one of the twins dies, Lothric will revive them (weird, because as far as I can tell, even if Lothric dies, he will still revive Lorian). He will refill the dead twins health bar to around 50% and you will have to do the fight all over again. Also, while Lothric is doing this revival is an excellent time to go in and try and do as much damage as possible (be warned that the end of the revival is followed by a devstating AOE attack). This can be pretty annoying and disheartening, especially if you are low on Estus. Nothing changes about the fight at this point, it just sort of becomes a war of attrition. However, there is a way to make this situation a lot easier: whenever possible, attack behind Lorian and Lothric (it isn’t terribly difficult to strafe behind them). If you go for an attack directly behind Lorian + Lothric, you should be able to do damage to both of the twins at the same time. If you use this strategy, you should be able to get both of their health bars extremely low at the same time. This way, when Lothric goes for the revival, you won’t have as much work to do during the last stage of the fight. Even if you use this strategy, you will still have to deal with one revival, but it makes the entire fight much easier. Just approach the fight the same way as before, strafing behind the Princes to hit them in the back. Before long, you should have one of them dead. At this point, go in and do as much damage to Lothric during his revival: if you followed the strategy well, you should be able to kill him. At this point the fight ends.

There’s one thing I want to know. Does DSIII use the Soul Memory system from the second game?
Nope. Good ol’ level system for matchmaking.
I’m going for a quality build, or maybe strength. Haven’t decided yet.
I’m torn on what I want my first character to be like. I wanna do a mage, but I also don’t wanna suffer endlessly because Magic builds are wayyyyy harder on your first time through a Souls game. A Dex build is probably what I’m gonna end up doing. Yet I know if I do that, there’s gonna be a ton of awesome weapons I’m gonna wanna use that I won’t be able to because my strength is too low. It’s the same scenario if I make a tank: I’ll miss out on those awesome DEX weapons you KNOW are gonna be in the game.
First world problems.
