Yeah something about DkS2 just rubbed me the wrong way completely. A lot of people say that it was a good game, but not a great Souls game, but I disagree; I don’t think it was very good at all. The bosses were lame as shit (dual dragonriders is a disgrace of a boss), the buffs/spell effects look cheap as shit, the level design was not very clever at all, the music wasn’t up to par, and all rolls felt like fatrolls (the movement in general didn’t feel very crisp). It just generally struck me as a really lazy, uncreative game. Anyway that is just my opinion, not trying to start a big debate, nor am I trying to hate on anyone who likes the game.
I don’t care for the way Dark Souls 2 looks. It looks too smooth and clean. It reminds me of that Lords of Fallen game or whatever it was called. It looks like and even feels like Dark Souls a little, but it ain’t Dark Souls.
Still, mediocre Souls is better than like 99% of games released today.
I love vanilla DS2 and the Scholar re-release. I enjoyed both way, way more than I did BB.
Amazing games.
That and Blood Vials are so abundant, the recovery after using them is really fast and you have a window to get health back after taking damage by dealing damage on top of a lot of other things make the game a breeze.
I loved DaS2 on release but now there’s very little I like about it unfortunately and I don’t want to dislike it, as with most games, but any time I start it up I think to myself “I could play a good souls game instead” and go do that.
I’m telling you it’s far more because you’re used to it.
I’m guessing you don’t visit many other forums but I saw tons of people, new to the series, complain about lack of blood vials.
The hardest Souls game is always your first, and the easiest is always your most recent. Nothing else matters as much as that when it coems to feeling difficult.
Those people need to know you can buy them from vendors.
I found in DS1 & 2 I needed to be careful and pick when to use an Estus Flask VS most bosses whereas in BB I could just pop a Blood Vial whenever because of their crazy fast recovery. That and, you have a million of them and can even get things to increase their 20 cap in your inventory.
I agree with this. I actually played DS1 before I played DeS, and I would always hear people talk about how much harder DeS is than DS1. I didn’t find that to be true at all, because I was already used to the mechanics etc. Despite that, I still found DkS3 to be pretty challenging at times, much more challenging than BB. They are both great though, and you can really see quite a few BB elements in DkS3
I think the hardest one is Demon’s. Now yes it wss my first, but i did 1-1, 2-1, and 2-2 and i gave up on Fire Lurker. I just wasnt in the right mind set for these games at the time and Demon’s is fucking hard. Anyway i picked up DS1 about a year later and it clicked. After doing like 3 builds and a NG+ run i went back to Demon’s (the benefits of never trading anything in lol) and it was still so fucking hard. I still died a billion times and got stuck so many fucking times. Every area in the game is so fucking brutal. That swamp with the big ogre bastards who arent hindered by the swamp at all and will 2 or 3 shot in human form, fuck me i still have nightmares.
I will say tho that its only the areas that are hard. The enemies and hostile NPCs are fucking dangerous, but almost all the bosses are a joke imo. Demon’s has the easiest set of bosses in the whole series, and only a few of them stand out imo, that being guys like King Alant, The Gargoyles, Flame Lurker, Armor Spider is kinda cool, Monk was cool when game had traffic, and the blind boss who looks like a fuckin JJBA character is awesome. Otherwise i dont think the rest of them are terribly great or hard, i beat most of my first time. Penetrator is a major disappointment imo. King Alant is the best and hardest boss in the game, and one of the best and hardest in the series, games worth playing just to fight him.
That is kind of how I’m feeling about DkS3 right now. The enemies for the most part are really hard and pretty cool. Some of the areas were extremely tough, especially towards the end of the game. However, as far as bosses go, while most of them were cool design wise, in general they didn’t give me much trouble at all (there are exceptions, the boss from the network test I found to be very difficult). Even the one that will probably go down as the coolest boss in From history was disappointingly easy, beat him on my second go.
Also, I’ve been going through the game again, and I’ve found the NPC co op summons are fucking godlike in this game
I agree with most your points.
Most of them being due to miyu having little to do with ds2.
I did enjoy the dlc but all in all BB was a much better game assuming your first time though you didn’t use the easy mode saw cleaver which is worse than demon souls royalty in terms of starting strength.
Yeah I’ll admit that the snow level dlc was pretty damn good, but overall it was lackluster. BB is just lightyears better imo, but I’m a big fan of that game so maybe I’m a bit biased. The only weak part of it was it didn’t have a lot of replay potential. Lucky for us, DkS3 seems to have lots of replay potential
I thought DSIIs first DLC was the best one, and the Snow one was the worst (Tho still better then a majority of the actual game). The underground city was set up fuckin great, really creative level design and really cool enemies for the most part, and I am a bit biased, I mark out any time these games have me hunting Dragons.
I remember talking to @Sonicabid about blood vials.
We both agreed that you got too many vials in BB. When i think about it even more… I’m pretty sure that BB (as much as i love the game)
would have been even more enjoyable (atleast for me) with a max of 10 vials (extra vials by runes not counted).
I just started DS1 as a cleric. So far the game is pretty fun, but I am more in the “I’m not exactly sure what I need to be doing right now,” phase of the game. Anyone got any early game tips for a noob? I will wholeheartedly admit that I suck at this game at this point.
Focus on Attunement early on, it increases the amount of spells you can use without having to change them at a bonfire.
If you started with the Master Key gift, you can head down through Drake Valley as soon as you hit Firelink Shrine and head into Blighttown, where you can find one of the best mage armors in the game and also a really powerful staff. You can also open up a shortcut that leads back to Firelink Shrine and pick up a shield that increases your Stamina Regeneration, even if you just wear it on your back.
From Firelink, there should be a staircase leading up to a tunnel guarded by a bunch of skeletons. It shouldn’t be too hard to explore onward by yourself from there.
