Dark Souls 3: Prepare to Die Once More

Prisoner’s chain is almost always worth it unless you are fairly high level or can’t spare a ring slot (caster build), it gives you more effective health than you lose from the extra damage taken (which is only like 3% iirc) in addition to the increased equip load and endurance.

See this is what I mean. Two completely different responses. Seems that way everywhere but I can’t find hard calcs to back up either argument

Prisoner’s chain is ABSOLUTELY worth it at low level, like 60 or below. It has diminishing returns since it’s most efficient and effective use is when you don’t even have that stats to reach soft or hard caps in stats. At that early in the game all the weapons are weak too, so even with taking a bit extra damage, it doesn’t mean much if you are invading, so you get a lot of bang for your buck. Still useful in PvE too, but again, not past a certain level, and by the time you get it naturally, any physical build doesn’t need it at all

I’m currently 40 endurance, strength, dex. 10 int, faith, attunement, 15 vitality and 7 luck. Rest of the points are just going into vigor, it’s about 20 currently.

Not sure what will be the best final build rings. I’m thinking Havels, Favor, Cloranthy but past that I don’t know. Wolf or Life ring might be okay, Speckled Stoneplate or Steel Protection could work.

Gael can go fuck himself, still trying to kill him

Friede fight was awesome but a bit too easy in the final phase

Greatwolf felt kinda disappointing

The Spear of the Church fight was interesting, reminded me of the Old Monk from Demon’s Souls. Can’t quite figure out how do you join the covenant to do invasions yourself (do you just use the red eye stone?)

The “show your humanity” secret/puzzle was REALLY clever, well done FromSoft

If you wanna do Spear invasions on the regular, you need to beat Midir. He’s the hitpoint-sponge gigantihuge dragon boss in the hidden area.

You CAN still get summoned if you leave a white or (I think) red sign, or if you’re doing regular invasions. If you don’t feel like killing Midir, then (he’s pretty tough), you can leave a white sign somewhere really out of the way where you’re less likely to be summoned.

Mind you, if you wanna do regular Spear invasions you will either want an anti-gank build (heavy weapons and such) or heal spells. You get pretty strong if the player has summoned phantoms, but a good party will demolish your helpers pretty fast, and then you’re without any kind of healing.

Looks like I’ll have to spend more time in the Ringed City to actually find the bastard

As far as using Prisoner’s Chain then, it doesn’t sound like you need it at all at your current level and build you’re going for. Do you plan on doing only PvE or do you plan on doing invasions/PvP?

I bought both Dark Souls 2 and 3 via Steam summer sale. I haven’t played 3 yet, but I couldn’t find a thread on 2 so I’ll just post this here. Personally, I like the game. I know a lot of people hate it, but I like the stuff you can do with your builds. They are much more flexible than DS1, at least to me. I haven’t played DS1 in a long time, and I know a lot of people have moved on from this game but I still see summoning/invasions here and there. My SL is 335.

I have an aggressive playstyle, which is really bad for a game like this because I die way too many times. I remember going crazy in the old Demon Souls/DS threads about the games being way too hard. People just said that’s the motto, you will die. A lot. I played 2 when it first came out, but never finished it. With that said, I came back to see that a lot has change. I remember Faith builds being pretty damn strong, now my lighting spears are so meh. I guess you can’t run around chucking lighting spears at everybody anymore.

So I switched over to a Hex build and I like it. However, it gets boring fast. Dark Orb is very good, but I dunno the range sucks actually. They nerfed some other hexes it seems too, like RS or GRS. Meh. Right now I’m rocking the Sanctum gear set, Lighting Drakekeeper Sword, and Sunset Staff all maxed out. I love the moveset, but the Fire Longsword has the poke I really, really like. Black Knight Halberd is pretty good if you can hit people with the sweet spot. It’s a weapon that takes getting used to.

Some areas in this game are cheesy asf. Frozen Outskirts are whatever that shit is can get fucked, and these goddamn cats killing me 50 fucking times. It’s bullshit. Why does the bonfire have to be so far away? Damn man. I was going to give up but I finally beat that shit. Skeleton Lords raped me for a good minute too, this is supposed to be an easy boss. Not for me. Those damn wheel skeleton thingies keep wrecking my shit. Shrine of Amana urggggh, bullshit. I actually think this place is impossible NG+++ and beyond, at least for melee. So many cheap deaths man, oh and Royal Rat Authority get fucked too. The toxic levels in this one is out of control compared to DS1.

Anyway, sorry for bumping an old thread. I really rage too much in these souls games, but they are very fun to play. I’m having so much fun in 2 that I haven’t touched 3 yet.

EDIT - oh yeah the ToD in this game is waaaaaay worse than 1
