Dark Slayer Style - The Vergil General Discussion Thread

Everything possible on stick is possible on pad. It is all a matter of preference and comfort, nothing more. I mean, I play Viper and Dante on pad, so there can’t be that big of a difference.

I’m relieved that Rapid Slash has no invincibilty as an assist or attack. Looks like Vergil won’t be the new wolverine, or derp character, not that he ever was going to be anyways… I want to see more combo options for Vergil, I’m glad we can combo off of Rising Sun now, but I still want to see how the two variations of Spiral Swords work.

I know wasting 2 bars of meter is absurd in an actual match, unless they do massive damage, and don’t scale at all… But come on, seems like someone could have showed more depth on the attacks at least for the style factor. Need to see those two attacks in action.

My idea all along has been to combo into Rising Sun, teleport down, and Spiral Swords > Blistering Swords. Fire them off quick enough and aerial combo after to their death.

Yeah, that combo better kill, otherwise you’re better off going with DT, and finish with Dimension Slash. I’m prob only going use sword set ups for when I have 3+ bars and about to do an incoming character mix up. And maybe use lvl 1 swords for the situations where Vergil is the last character left for my team.

I think its still going to be viable mix-up on incoming characters, especially with assists.

Of course it will be, he’s not saying it isn’t. The point is that Rapid Slash will no longer be a free “in”, which no character should ever have.

It will definitely viable just like Zero’s command dash or other non-invincible cross up tools. The lack of invincibility makes it a less broken tool, and the fact that the designers only gave vergil one range balances out the fact that it is a physical attack + cross up. I am proud of Capcom for this one instance of balance.

do you guys have any idea about how much his cr.H or st.H will be frame-wise on block (I know yall dont have exact numbers)? are they easily punishable on block?

From what it seems, his cr.H and st.H are both very punishable on block and whiff. On block though, you can cancel it into Trick or whatever to make it safe.

^There’s zero reason to buy a stick for MVC3 imo (Which sucks, I need an excuse to buying one lol), for the SF series more so cause of certain techniques making links easier but ofc. anything can be done on both. But for MVC3 especially I dont see any reason. As one mentioned I also can play Viper/Dante on Pad nicely.

And come on V should have never looked close to Wolverine lol, his Rapid slash is twice as slow + itll almost always cross up unlike Wolverine’s crazy ass + it has no invincibility in none-DT at least. He does have some Derp though, but he makes up for in style while Wolverine sticks to Derp + Day 1 stuff =D Its all good

That is a personal opinion. One could also say there is zero reason to buy a stick for “X” game if they feel comfortable enough to play with their pad. What’s easy/hard to you can be the complete opposite for others. I know BB players who only play BB on pad but need a stick to play MVC3. So it’s all opinion based.

If you invest a decent amount of time into fighting games then getting a stick is a great investment

Says you.

If you’re going to invest time into fighting games, then a hitbox would be the best investment.

Marvel 3 doesn’t really require a stick for anything though (hell you can even plink dash on a pad. You can’t plink attack buttons that easily, but you don’t need to in marvel).

I have to disagree with that because of…plinking. Techniques to extend the timing windows of what otherwise could be 1 frame links are definitely an advantage. Games like BB or Marvel,( where buffering ensures that there a very few links so tight that you need an alternate technique to perform them consistently) don’t push sticks onto players nearly as hard as street fighter does.

Not saying that buffering is a bad thing to have in games or anything, but a lack of buffering combined with tight links would put a pad player at a definite disadvantage.

Less talk about gaming apparatuses, moar talk about Vergil.

What’d everyone think about the Assist Me episode?

This right here. Bring it back to 2005 with those stylish DMC3 combos.

Godlike actor, Godlike character.

But out of what I learned from it, this means that you can take advantage of the slight invincibility of Rising Sun and use it to start combos. It all depends on whether you get a good window, but if you do, I’ll probably try to use it like a classic Wake-up Shoryuken.

Tools are something Vergil won’t lack of, and that makes me happy. Only to an extent and as long as it will make everyone play him.

Vergil looks to be the new boss of UMvC imo.

The guy doesnt even need assists or XF to pull off 1mill+ combos… which is crazy from what we’ve seen in Ultimate. That’s Phoenix Wright status, except he doesnt need to waste time finding the evidence first, and has MUCH better normals/mixups.

He’s even more broken than I thought. Id expect nothing less from the other son of Sparda. Dante’s normals have slow startup/recovery but it hasnt slowed him down. I expect Vergil to be the same with even more mixup options than Dante.

lol I seriously doubt Virgil will have MORE mixup options than Dante, but regardless i still expect Virgil to be no slouch in the mixup department.

On the wake up pod cast the talk of his normals being really unsafe and the fact that tele canceling might not be an effective way to make them safe worry me a bit.
