Dark Slayer Style - The Vergil General Discussion Thread

I ain’t letting nothing kill me for making it showtime with the Emo Swordsmen

i’m starting to think this game might be worse than Vanilla

Rising Sword + Assist + Teleport back to the ground or behind in the air for high/lo 50/50 looks pretty good.

Why do you think my profile tittle says what it says? You may not lose each of your team members to one easy mode combo anymore but you’re not going to get pissed off any less. LOL.

Meh I’d much rather get my ass handed to me with skillful BS, rather than Herp Derp BS.

Everyone in this thread is in on a big joke right? This emo looking angsty dude ain’t just gonna be the new Wolverine now with half screen normals right?

…RIGHT???

He won’t be. Capcom can always release balance patches or a whole new game. The only annoying factor for me is how everyone will use him in the first month or two. He has some easy combos and strategies for beginners…

Doesn’t change the fact that he’ll have a lot of advanced mixup, combos, teleport cancels, and Blistering/Storm Sword potential that most people won’t use. Still can’t wait for the character. Maximilian’s combos off of Rising Sun have me pumped up.

There is no way Vergil will be more derp than Wolverine or Wesker if anything he will most likely be around Zero’s level of derposity.

Considering Wolverine is getting nerfed to shit that wouldn’t be terrible.

Though in comparison to Vanilla Wolverine, Vanilla Wolverine was probably the easiest to use character that could kill you in one combo in fighting game history. He also probably had one of the most broken special moves in fighting game history which was an invincible move that 50/50 crossed you up into death combos via XF. He is probably the worst thing to happen to competitive fighting games other than Vanilla Phoenix. The only thing keeping Wolverine from being broken was that there was probably at least 4 or 5 other characters that when you put the work in were basically just as stupid and some of them clean beating him.

Virgil won’t be the new wolverine, WOLVERINE will still be the “new” Wolverine, any dedicated wolvie player will still mop the floor with him I’m sure, I can def see Virgil being tournament material though, many players will spam him for the first couple months, but non dedicated players will drift away from him, or players that think he is cheap won’t use him, or players that just don’t feel his play style will drop him, right now I’m wondering if his teleports are going to be shoryuken motions, or will they for example the same command as Dante’s but L for a short forward teleport, M for a teleport Above, and H for a far teleport. if his teleports are shoryuken motions, that’s like a good 50% of the bandwagon hopping off for him having an execution barrier. LMAO

It’s pretty sad that shoryuken/reverse shoryuken motions are labeled as “execution barriers” but whatever.

Good Wolverine players will still make him work but the nerfs means he has a lot more bad matchups now and won’t be able to kill a character at the start of the round without burning out all of his XF and probably having to burn a meter also. He already had few bad matchups against the other retardo tiers of the game and got shut out pretty bad by Trish who is high/mid at best. That’s even with all of his OP techniques. He’ll still work but he’s got his work really cut out for him now.

He’s actually going to be a legitimately difficult to use character now. Not so much in his execution but how you will have to create a team around him to help him get in and will have to do more than just turn on XF to kill people with him and actually go for smart mix ups and resets. Most rushdown characters are just going to be able to get in a lot easier than him now since most of them now have aerial movements better than his for getting in plus invincible supers that blow through zone that he doesn’t have.

this is true, wolverine will require quick thinking, rather than someone who is just quick lol. sentinel drones should still help him a bit though.
and on that note I’m already drooling from thinking about all the dirty mixups and extended combos with Sent drones assist and Virgil on point XD!!!

Vergil vs present (vanilla) Wolverine:

  • Less health
  • Normals are easier to punish
  • Even less options in the air, can’t deal with welcome setups or characters flying around him
  • Vergil’s Derpserker Slash can cross up but he only has 1 to use from and is a lot easier to deal with than Wolverine’s
  • Inferior teleporter to Wolverine with Derpserker Slash (only Phoenix, Strange and Dorm can claim to be better teleporters)
  • Bigger hitbox
  • Less damage
  • Lvl 3 requires 4 meters
  • Unlikely to be as good a battery as Wolverine
  • More tricks with summoned swords
  • Better range giving Dante-like derp crossup abilities
  • Maximum Wesker seems like a better punishing/chipping tool than Wolverine’s hypers

Yeah the (-) seems to outweight the (+), so I can’t see Vergil being the new Wolverine.

He’s going to have a lot of similarities to Wolverine in that his left/right game is going to be a nightmare but it will require sufficient resources/meter to use and generally be more assist reliant than Wolverine’s offense was. Lots of meter + XF could probably take care of some assist reliance issues but if he’s first or 2nd he’s definitely gonna need some help.

That being said I guarantee Vergil will be the new “Dark Wesker”

All I can say is, when I saw the thread title, I thought it said “Dark Vergil rises…”

Oh, the irony.

Obviously the - are gonna outweigh the + when you’re biased as fuck. The only legit - is bigger hitbox which actually doesn’t matter at all and the level 3 requiring 4 bars. The rest is just grasping.

Here i’ll help you

  • Can combo off air throw by himself
  • Tracking teleport
  • Better assists
  • Level 3 can be followed up to build meter after
  • Arguably the largest hitbox normals in the game

Non bias factual shit

everyone seems to have their own take on the game, how it’ll turn out, and who will be powerful. i for one still think this game will be about tod damage. only difference i see are exchanges are gonna play a greater role imo. in any case, vergil certainly looks like the easiest of the new characters.

At the end of his level 3 he should say

“Derp in piece”

At high level play exchanges get broken up at times so the rate that people will exchange at won’t be of the highest. It’s great if it works but if it doesn’t work the momentum you lose is still pretty big. Especially with the adjustments with the extra time to escape. It’ll be great when it works but now that there’s more of a chance to escape at all that kinda mitigates the uses a bit. Still very useful but it’s kind of a coin flip thing and at high level play people don’t like relying on coin flip shit unless they have to. People will just make sure they have a solid set of characters that can DHC into each other well or have great synergy through other means so they’re not as reliant on the coin flip stuff.

What I see controlling the game from very much to somewhat =

  1. Whatever new TOD’s people find that can be accessed from round 1 fight that don’t involve TAC’s. Hopefully this is down to a bare minimum so characters can actually fight each other instead of just poison each other. LOL.

  2. Whatever new TOD’s people find that can be accessed from round 1 fight via TAC’s.

  3. Resets.

  4. General TAC based damage.

Tha fuck?

Since when did SRK motions become an execution barrier?
