well, here goes the next-runner-up for my team to induce rage on all fellow members of the religion of SRK as well as the Marvel Vs Capcom series. vergil looks OP to be honest, with all the belittling and smack talk everyone seems to have on Vergil here… i’d expected to see Vergil with a strong move set of 40+ moves but i guess not… simplified off of Dante… yes, maybe… but i do see him as an over-all stronger character whereas he can fill in for the people who over-looked Dante and saw him as over-rated from day one… just seems like the stylish gameplay thing wasn’t too strong of a wave to bring me on over to join the crowd. i expect to see large numbers produced from this cat… can’t wait to see him in action in the near future… don’t need no movies to watch for this one. holla`

The UMvC3 crew did a good job translating Vergil. They took every move he had in DMC3SE and added it into this game, sans the level 3.

Unlike Dante, with 7 styles, 5 devil arms, 5 firearms, and 60 or so different moves, Vergil only has 1 style, 3 weapons, his summoned swords and closer to 15 different moves.

I’d like to think Vergil’s moves weren’t developed because he was a boss character, so more time was invested into Dante having the unique weapons. Let alone given 3 weapons at a time and limited ram you can only fit so many moves for his melee weapons, so I was hoping Capcom might add more moves but w/e. That being said I do still like how vergil is portrayed in this game, (though I was hoping his sword spinning move would have been a projectile counter).

I was hoping to see the parry he had in the boss fights from DMC3. Working around that parry in addition to his actual attacks basically defined those fights, which were some of the best boss fights in all of video game history.

the hell? is it just me or at around 2:41, Vergil crosses up Sentinel AND hits him from behind? does his jumping fierce have hitboxes at the back too or something?

also, regarding assists, which one are you guys planning on using?

Rising sun for extended Ammy combos, hopefully it’s at least like Dante’s Jam Session or Zero’s Sougenmu-powered Ryuenjin.

If not, Judgement cut will have to do.

Yeah, considering how much he’s like his Mugen version I’m suprised that didn’t make it in.

That happens with more chars though, or at least IIRC with Dante too if you jump wrong after the launcher. The M, H might leave your back towards the opponent but you can still combo specials in the air with a reverse motion. Altho for Vergil it seems hard to combo from a situation like that. But that means he got good normals =D

Also im probably gonna use his Rapid slash, if not probably Judgement cut. I dont like SRK assists, they are good if you have like Hulk as one but I like being able to combo off the assists. Dante for the air/jam session I guess. (Although you cant always do much from that either)

you guys think storm might work with vergil and nemesis?

I see vergil being the mvc2 strider/spiral, also does swords hit overhead on crouching opponents? that with wesker gunshot assist = free sword hits

How about a Vergil/Skrull/Nova team?

Vergil actually reminds me of a mix between Karas and Soki

I highly doubt that because then he’d have free solo unblockables for 1 bar.

Combine that with his other tools, and he’d be S tier.

Does anyone know if you can XF HB or starfall?

Here is my theory…

If you XF during the active frames of Vergil’s hard knockdown you should be able to trick down and catch any character before they hit the ground. Since starfall causes a character to fly cross the screen, doing a TB(trick behind) may put you in range to continue your combo.

Vergil’s option theory after hard KD XF

  • SSwords loop into a reset/mixup
  • Stinger into ???
  • BnB combo into JStorm

I plan on trying to use him in such a way with a lockdown assist, and a high or low assist for mix-ups/unblockables. The way I see it now is that if I can build a bar or two consistently then I can have swords out as often as I need. Hopefully the chip damage from the lockdown assist, and swords will make it even more worth while.

Except Vergil can’t teleport in the air. At least with helm bringer, you need to be on the ground before teleporting again.

I wasn’t saying he could trick down from helm bringer. I was talking about after an air XF. If you do helm bringer then XF the character will continue to drop to the ground. Now that I think about it, I haven’t seen anyone XF out of special move in the air.
