Also, light bubble (Judgment Cut) doesn’t seem to be comboable. I tried canceling standing and crouching C into it but it wouldn’t combo. His launcher > air combo timing is also a bit weird.
I know you can combo off of Judgement Cut but I don’t think you ever could combo into it since it takes time before it hits.
I guess they figured him having a strong aerial game would make him too close to Dante play style wise. Is the issue that his air normals are slow? I would imagine then have long range at least.
Its kind of strange Vergil can’t combo into Judgment cut. Oh well…we’ll figure something out with him.
His lack of air control doesn’t worry me much at all to be honest as I wanted him to less Dante-ish and be more of his own character. Since I’ll be pairing him up with Ammy and Iron man, both of whom have decent air options.
The thing I’m afraid of is the Hulk/Sentinel + hidden missile assist match-ups those are already tedious for my Dante/Ammy. Vergil looks like he has nothing to scare the Hulk besides Spiral swords + teleports and maybe Round trip. That st. :h: having three points of armor is starting to scare me.
Hopefully, Spiral swords + teleports and Round trip will save some of the hassle, but still.
Also him and Strider are looking like the new anti-phoenix so far.
pretty sure we can figure something out with Judgement Cut in the corner. it looks like you can juggle off the L version, actually.
as for anti-phoenix, don’t forget Dr. Strange. with that nearly instant hyper, projectile counter, and ridiculously fast teleports, he’s almost impossible to zone.
he doesn’t need an air dash and a bold cancel. he has so much that many character don’t have besides i didn’t have many problems with him mobile wise.
In my theory swag combos I see judgement cuts being applied early in combos with round trip after wall bounce.

Pretty much said, air game is ass. Keep him on the ground and give him an aerial assist our something. Didn’t get to try much since capcom was being picky with the side setups. (stream was the only winner stays on and that was laggy) and most of the stuff I wanted to try out I completely forgot. so there’s my shitty report.
tested some vergil shit at nycc.
nothing groundbreaking but some minor notes on him in the current build (meaning this shit is all pretty useless since it’s all pretty much subject to change):
QCF +L/M/H (judgement cut): does not seem to be comboable regularly from either st.H or cr. H. pretty sure i remember getting wallbounce stinger into QCF +L and being able to combo off it near the corner a couple of times. dont know if theres enough time to use something like that midscreen and teleport to continue a combo though.
roundtrip (help ATK button >release) is pretty similar to the Z Buster or gilgamesh chains in F/UC. can change button held while doing combo. loses charge if vergil is hit but not when he is blocking. think it was asked before but stinger can in fact be cancelled into roundtrip but it doesn’t appear to combo unless the stinger wallbounced (meaning unless target was un-grounded by some means). wasn’t able to test comboability after roundtrip had connected.
QCB +ATK (Trick): blahblahblah stuff you already know.
DP + 2 ATK (summoned swords): causes MASSIVE hit stun deteroration, and does so very fast.
-doing QCF +S with summoned swords activated causes the “dunce cap/crown of swords” formation for another meter. didn’t test persistence after tag out but these dont seem to disappear when vergil is hit (at least not in the current build). they also each seem to cause enough hitstun that if the opponent is hit by them in the air at like superjump height, they are juggled slowly on the way back to the ground. never saw if they could otg or take the opponent from juggled air state to a ground crumple state. also asked opponents if they were blocking low and got hit overhead but they apparently weren’t blocking. at all. so yeah…
-wasn’t able to find the motion for the other summoned sword formation used on ryu in the iron fist gameplay trailer. doesn’t appear to be QCB +S. maybe DP +S?
rapid slash assist doesn’t seem to have invul. point version cancelled into hyper/covered by assists is pretty reminiscent of vanilla wolverine gimmicks.
never had the chance to test if comboing out of LVL 3(4) resumes the scaling of the combo that lead into the hyper or if has its own set amount of hit stun deterioration for combos on the LVL 3 crumpled opponent. most characters just died from basic DT combos into LVL 3.
hope this helps speed up the process of figuring out the character.
whoever actually has access to play him in the future, you better come up with some broken ass shit.
Does anyone know how many seconds you get before Blistering Swords is active? I was thinking of a DMC3 style combo using RS, BS into trick up, yamato combo. Damn, I wish he had enemy step so I could style on niggas allday.

If blistering swords juggles in the air, maybe it can be timed to follow up a High Time OTG without using an assist? Probably isn’t worth the two meters for the damage, but it’s hard to say lol…

Trish, mehh. The twins are much more skilled and stylish than she could ever be. I think the two meters could be worth it for Blistering Sword if it doesn’t scale. I’m thinking it could lead to OHKO combos if it doesn’t scaled judging by the damage, but then again, you might need to throw in a Hyper Judgment Cut… which is basically three meters.
I know Vergil is a mixups type of character but, I wonder who is like best mixup for him besides Doom with his beam assist, and maybe rocks, and hiddlen missiles. But, we gonna experiment on him and his mixups skills. I have a feeling Taskmaster arrow is good assist for me as well as crossing up. I tried at Comic-con pretty good. Vergil got a hammer too but, it’s a hard knockdown I can live with that. He is going to be fun learning to him and the extending combos.
LMH xx Stinger xx Round Trip, Trick, and then whatever sounds really sexy. Maybe after the Trick you can do a light Judgment Cut and continue to combo from there.
Just a few points. Vergil doesn’t have the Hammer, but he does have his own version of Killer Bee. Also, Dante’s Hammer puts the opponent into a hard knockdown.
