Long answer. Vergil has two swords. Yammato the Katana his father gave to him and Force Edge which is the untapped form of the sword his father used. He keeps force edge on his back at all times though it only appears when he uses a move that requires it. (Stinger, Helm Breaker, Round Trip, High Time) Since none of these moves have him un-sheathing Yammato they do not destroy projectiles.

I really recommend looking up the players Chou, DIE-Chan, LIME, Tsujikawa, TOMO, Udaterasu, Mamespider and SPINKING, they all run anchor Vergil. I’m not really sure about that specific team though…

If you land a helmet breaker or throw and opponent probably won’t die from a simple df+H into Dimension Slash, I’d probably x factor cancel that. Landing some combo from 2L, I’d probably x factor cancel at the stinger and continue the combo from there, if I landed a hit on a fresh character. You can also use it make rapidslash safe if you’re out of meter, if it it hit, it’s an easy confirm from there with 5L.

I’d like to add something about using rapidslash…don’t use long strings with no gaps in between that end with rapidslash because opponent can just block the first hit and then hold forward (which will block the rest of the normals after the first one since they are stuck in blockstun, and will block the rapidslash properly afterwards). Instead, you’d probably want to either use individual normals with some frame gaps in such a way that if they hold forward they might get hit by the next one. You want the player to actually have to make a choice of which way to block and to have to react to rapidslashes rather than to option select by just holding forward safely until it comes out. Don’t always do your rapidslash from a stinger, because stinger basically denotes the end of a normal string, so they’ll know what’s coming next…instead, consider some variations like…

  • stand H into delayed stinger into hit confirmed combo or another stinger
  • stand H by itself into rapidslash
  • naked rapidslash

these variations should also be applied after they block a round trip mixup

Bottomline, keep them on their toes, don’t be obvious but you still need to be really oppressive.

Hey guys, I’m having trouble connecting the round trip after lunar phase w/ spiral swords. There are times where I release L round trip too early and nothing comes out, or I release L round trip too late and it whiffs.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Hold L during the activation of spiral swords, after lunar phase, it will be fully charged. The only reason it won’t come out is if you haven’t charged it. It’s also impossible to release during the lunar phase animation. So input spiral swords, immediately hold L, wait for lunar phase to finish, throw. You have forever to do this since they will be getting hit by your swords.

Just plink the :s: with :h:. It’s better. Hope your friends like salt.

ok can someone explain how the instant overheard works? is he cancelling the j.S with a sword shot then doing a j.L on the way down for the overheard? if he is, thats hella fast fingers.

How do you guys feel about the trend of vergil +strider in Norcal (I think)?

Activate blistering swords. Jump. Plink :s: ~ :h: . Vergil’s aerial momentum should stop and you’ll fire a sword shot. Just practice that first. Then you just add a normal afterwards since the recovery is so short. In this case a plinked :l: / :m: whatever you want to do. It’s not that hard.

Made a video for the blistering swords instant overhead. I personally found it easier to use plink S+L then tap L again ASAP, but whatever method works. Don’t pay attention to the combo afterwards, I guarentee there’s way better combos, but I just wanted to get a video showing the tech with inputs up.

Couple of quick questions: How safe/effective is doing rapid slash raw or poking and then cancelling into rapid slash. I’ve heard Justin Wong praise how good raw rapid slash was but I wasn’t completely sure. Also, how come some players cancel their rapid slashes into DT instead of SS? Is there some sort of advantage in doing one over the other. I’m of the impression that if they blocked rapid slash, you should cancel it into SS so that you’re a bit more safe. Thoughts? Q__Q
