Dark Slayer Style - The Vergil General Discussion Thread

yep, yamato (the katana) cuts projectiles, force edge does not.

Wow, all this time and I never knew he was carrying multiple swords.now I kinda wanna learn about the lore a little bit.did he always have the ability to spawn more swords at will?

Everything you see in this game, he had in DMC3

Here ya go

How good is the rapid slash assist vs other projectiles and beams? The book sayst it has 99 points of durability. but i keep getting beaten out by projectiles

It hits behind him and not in front of him. Thats why.

So about using Vergil on Point…

After using him a while im starting to see how he would work better on Second due to more meter but I want to use him on point…

Any tips for a point vergil? Behind him are Felicia with sand splash OTG and Drones

I guess you could use drones to get in and Felicia for round trip extensions.

They should have given him trick up in the air, ability to create 1-2 more judgement cuts after one judgement cut(in succession), and meter for taunting :. Also the last part of your normal Beowulf combo… I also kind of wished they give him his parry in boss fights, or make spinning his sword a projectile reflector?

1-2 more judgment cuts would be really strong seeing as how it is soft knockdown and does good amount of dmg and is even plus on block iirc

Anyone here use Vergil in back as anchor like our friends in the far east? Ive been intrigued by the idea for months, and finally have a team that lets me do it (Ammy Frank VFergil for reference). But I’m wondering if anyone can break down tactically how to best get the dirty shit started?

I do know the idea seems to be xx Swords xx Crown. But what I’m looking for is the most efficient way to achieve this, and the nastiest ways to take advantage when the crown is uponeth their heads. I imagine Rapid Slash xx Swords then Crown is optimal, but then the question is how a solo Vergil can connect a Rapid Slash on a mobile opponent, hit or block (doesnt seem to matter in this context). Find times when a raw Stinger will connect? Ape shit on the down+H? It’s a much easier task with assists, but by himself sometimes In the neutral, especially 3/4 screen or further, I’m left thinking, ā€œOK, now what?ā€ Though I suppose from very far, one could even just raw Swords if they’re not pestering.

And then of course when we get our swords and officially crown the opponent The King of Dead, is it anything besides just teleporting like a mad man because the individual sword hits have gaps and aren’t a true block string? Or are the more streamlined ways to convert the crown to death?

Anyway, any advice on the solo anchor Vergil game plan would be massively appreciated. Of course assume I’ve been hoarding meter for him and all that jazz. Thanks!!

Edit: Oh yeah, and when do you think are the best times to pop XF? Upon landed df+H? To cancel Rapid Slash? As soon as we’re sworded? Something else entirely??

Really, you aren’t gonna run Vergil 2nd for the install super tech or DHC>Lunar Phase>Raw tag stuff? Whatever, you probably have your own schtiff with Ammy/Frank tech to level him up.

Yah I don’t particularly know much about Vergil anchor but he has so much stuff to stop fraudulent comebacks ( i’m so free to Dark Any Anchor ) and so much to get his own fraudulent comebacks too, i’m definitely picking him up.

So far all I could recommend is looking up some fo the Japs and look up what they do, Yipes at FR also displayed some of his Vergil anchor tech ( by accident I suppose, since his Hawkeye got sniped ). As of now this is what I know/think I know so don’t take it as too concrete.

 1. Crowning opponents seems to be almost guaranteed way to open someone up/stop someone from trying to lame you out. Dash unders, teleports, fake crossups are all common ways to get this to work.

 2. DT+XF3 allows you to easily link a st.L>full combo after Rapid Slash, if they block properly, do it again, and you can keep repeating this cycle until it hits. Hitbox is huge and Vergil is so fast that you probably don’t need to worry too much about pinning your opponent down.

 3. I do think it matters if you try to go into a Rapid Slash on block ( since you can’t left/right people while they’re in blockstun ), but I believe you can leave small gap after a regular ground series of LMH+Stinger xx Rapid Slash to get it to crossup, pretty basic trick though and people will catch on. I mean if DT is active you can get this setup practically half-3/4ths screen anyway.

 4. Rapid Slash>DT>Rapid Slash>Swords>Rapid Slash>X Factor>Rapid Slash>Level 3 is mad disrespectful.

Haha that’s all great, thanks man! Though admittedly I have no idea to what you’re referring at first. Now that I think of it, I do recall seeing winrich raw tag frank and taking a pic (because it’ll last you longer), but dunno how id get to that from a point. I’m not married to ammy either (new jersey so unprogressive), so if an easier levelup exists elsewhere I’m down. The thing is, when you tac to frank and do plunger stuffs, the down+H knee drop inexplicably whiffs a good half the time (see also: kusuro), and with ammy I found an easy way around that.

My main issue is not really knowing how to abuse rapid slash assist. The original idea was dante anchor, since both jam and weasel are both el fantasmo for ammy and frank. I swapped to vergil just because I know he’s a beastman as anchor and figured, ā€œhere’s my chance!ā€

I’ve never actually seen anyone use Lunar Phase>Raw tag to level up frank specifically, I just know I can do it with Dante for some style combos so I figure Frank could do it too. I don’t really know much about Rapid Slash, seems like a ghetto jack of all trades kind of assists. I’ve seen it used for lockdown, combo extensions, crossups, pushing people away to continue zoning, does everything but certainly doesn’t seem to do it for free like some others. Dante anchors alright, I prefer to have a bit of derp and fraudulence in my anchors though.

i heard Vergil has an unblockable setup with Wesker, is that true?

Only thing I can think of is throw round trip->call wesker->H teleport->j.H. But that’s really easy to pushblock out.

I guess you can get an unblockable setup off SHSH (second one is soft knockdown)->call wesker->H teleport->j.H, but that one depends on which way they techroll.

His unblockables with OVERHEAD assists are much better.

Spiral swords->teleport->call assist->cr.L.

Nova’s assist is especially useful in that respect since it also forces a ground bounce no matter what so you can OTG with it. (Who thought that was a good idea?)

Any tips against Haggar/Sentinel? Normally my strider assist kicks sent in the face so I don’t have to worry about drones on the screen, but I can’t call the little guy out with all the pipes swinging about. Drones are, of course, blowing up my teleports, and making it hard to keep him off me. Round trip sort of works if Haggar is far away, but once he’s in I’m not sure what to do.

I’ve been saying for a while that assist is stupid. Covers 70% the screen and forces a ground bounce and gives easy-mode hard-to-blockables. I think Vergil/Nova is a solid pair.

been running vergil nova x. where x is either a beam assist frank west or something. Solid pair and normally any round trip ='s free unblockables . plus letting him level frank up to 4 with ease is pretty luls to.

Which one of Vergil’s normals destroy projectiles?
