Marvel is not a sport. It’s a video game. PERIOD. Whether there’s money or not. Video games should never be serious business. Me and my friends play money matches, only to increase the desire to win, but never to replace our desire to do what we initally planned, play the game.

You don’t need trash-talking whenever there is competition. Yeah competition is fun, I play basketball and football, and trash-talking are part of those games. However, DP and Chaos both talk about fighting at EVO’s and hurting people over a video game which they CHOOSE to put money and energy into. That’s retarded in my honest opinion, but I know you and many others will disagree with that.

I give much more respect to Clock because he was calm and collected during the match, didn’t talk trash, and never gave up. In at least two of those matches, DP walks away before the match ends. With money on the line, he deserves to lose it and has no need to get hyped up or mad. Clock was a MUCH better sport during the matches, and the most chauvinistic things he did were point at the bomb and shake his head.

Dude, its fucking semantics. Who really gives a shit what you call it, people take it very seriously, and put as much work into it as more conventional sports. You can’t really draw a line anywhere and say “this is how physical something needs to be before it becomes a sport.” The point is that Marvel can be just as competitive as things seen on espn.
As long as there was no physical violence involved, I don’t see why people can be saying these kinds of grudge matches hurt the activity. This trash talking shit puts some faces and personality behind the players, and that lets people who may not have any Marvel experience get interested in who wins or loses those matches. Even if you can’t appreciate the skill of the players involved, you can appreciate someone shutting up a trash talker who can’t back his shit up (which is why I watched and enjoyed those videos). Its the same principle behind east coast vs west coast matches. People can get behind their local players, even if they aren’t really interested in Marvel. Either way, it gets people involved that normall wouldn’t be.
So to recap, what has the situation left us with? No actual violence, but lots of people who wouldn’t be interested otherwise watching and talking about these videos, which is exactly what the Marvel, and fighting game community needs. Yeah, it was stupid of DP to talk all that shit, but no harm came from it, so who cares? You guys should be more concerned with stifling action, and not talk.
