Dark Prince Vs Clockwork Videos

Deelite speaks truth!

scrubs at life always criticize things they don’t understand

I understand fighting games being competitive, I just don’t see a point in acting like a fool. I’m the type of person whether I win or lose I can be calm before, during, and after the match, and when we are done we can go get some food or something. You have to understand that I came from an area where people would kill/hurt you over anything, including video games, so yeah I realize that some people view it more then a game. But when you see someone get shanked over it, its not really funny anymore. Nor is it funny when people throw out N-bombs and f*ck this like its nothing. I also came from an area where people would use the n word and they meant it, as in they hated blacks and minorities and some were killed. I lived in Smoaks, South Carolina as a child and they are still fighting the civil war there. I also lived in shitty areas of LA, California where there were tons of gangs who would like to kill you over anything, shoes, your hair, “where you from homes?”, hell even waving could get you shot cause waving to some gangs means take your best shot.

After growing up in fucked up situations and surrounding like that I realize that hobbies are hobbies, and they should be enjoyable. I’d much rather money match for charity then for my own pocket, that to me has a purpose then trying to prove your manhood through again…a VIDEO GAME.

your enter key must be broken.

^Anything with $3000 on the line is serious. These MM are keeping Marvel alive!! Stop being so soft its just a game, with some major guap on the line.

Your logic is circular, and that’s my problem with your criticism. You mention even within your own situation (one I’m not unfamiliar with, I grew up getting beaten down and having to fight prejudice too) a causal relationship between social upbringing and the way people do or don’t act. That has fuck-all to do with Marvel. And does EVERY Marvel player act that way? No. I don’t, most people don’t. The ones that do are good-natured about it the vast majority of the time. Yeah once a dude pulled a knife and made an ill-advised video and it blew up. One incident and it’s been played out and squashed. Most fighting game players are teens or early 20s and still learning about life and who they themselves are. People make mistakes. The basis of your argument is no different than those opposed to violent video games - circumstantial. Oh that one kid killed people at his school, it must have been DOOM. It couldn’t have been the natural confusion of youth or an identity crisis or bad parenting or getting beat down at school.

Also, the VIDEO GAME argument is such a swiss cheese discussion I could drive Clock’s hair through it. The ONLY FUCKING DIFFERENCE between recognized pastimes like professional sports leagues and video games is revenue. That’s IT. We’re talking about engaging competitions in which there is a giant stratification between casual players and ‘pros’ such that a divide forms and the potential for fans and consistent winners arise. Watch - in our lifetimes, as games are more and more mainstream, the distinction between video game competitions and just plain competitions is going to fade more and more. There’s already been Thresh here, Magic’s already swung around mad money, the scene is already there in places like Korea. It’s just not really here yet.

It’s a paradigm shift, the perception of the public that a VIDEO GAME can be a REAL COMPETITION. The people on this site know it already (well, apparently 6 of you), it’s just on the public and holdouts like you to come around. And what’s going to help do that? Hype-ass money matches just like these.

Yes it’s regrettable that some things played out the way they did, but that’s one incident. Your comment on language use is an entire separate and unrelated discussion that I’m not going to go anywhere near, except for saying this: we can develop as a people and get past the walls we put between ourselves with words as soon as the double-standard in the entertainment industry disappears. Duc Jr. isn’t the one teaching kids that it’s OK to say nigga this nigga that - we have all kinds of popular music and TV to thank for that. Don’t put that shit on fucking Marvel 2.

Big props for actually responding with a real discussion though, that puts you in the top 1% of SRK already.

Sadly.

Money is serious business, doesn’t matter what you bet on, you will be competitive. Marvel has hype, that is why DP is even in the MM, because he tried to get hype but failed against Cl0rk but did well against ShadyK.

Video games are not a sport, I view a sport as having to involve some form of athleticism, mashing buttons does not qualify, a lot of other things that are considered sports aren’t sports to me (IE golf, poker, etc.). Yeah it is competitive, but even competitive things don’t require childish behavior, including things that require physical combat like MMA. I do MMA and other athletics, and I don’t feel malice, hate, or trash talk to other fighters, yeah some do that but that’s their right. If someone chooses to act that way they have the right to do so, I’m just saying, “I don’t understand” their reasoning, because of past experiences. Also, I didn’t personally get beat up or shanked from playing video games but I have seen people get severely hurt over it. Why? Cause of trash talking, at some point people trash talk, and one of them WILL actually do what they say, or get 40 of their friends and jump the guy. I also realize that the majority of Marvel players don’t act that way, but why even have a couple? Makes the situation uncomfortable to those around who just want to relax and have a good time. And yes having one or a few of those people really just destroys the whole competition for everyone else, cause there really isn’t a competition if one of them starts a fight and the cops get called and the arcade has to close down (and yes that’s happened before). I also don’t have a problem with them money matching, I just don’t understand why you would want to put that kind of pressure on yourself; I also highly doubt that any of this players are well to do and can afford losing 1,000 grand or more. And if you are going to trash talk, at least use something besides the N word every two seconds followed by an F bomb. Especially coming from an African American, as to me thats kind of disrespectful to yourself. Also, when you trash talk and can’t back up your claims you just look weak and like a damn fool, that’s another reason why I don’t do it. If I said I was going to pound fighter X’s face in during an MMA fight and he knocks me out in the first round then I look like a damn child who got beat down. I like to win with respect, and lose with it as well.

I don’t know where these money matches take place, if it was at a tournament and I was the tournament director I probably would establish some set of rules to just ban people who used too abusive language and behavior.

And again, this is just my opinion on how I like to enjoy a video game, other people can do whatever they choose to do. I just won’t be there if they are acting as such, such as now cause I have to go to work. I’m not trying to argue with anyone all your points are valid, I’m just giving my perspective on it and my inability to comprehend why and how some people act and behave.

Well if you come from a country where there are no arcades, no coverage of national tournaments. Only Tekken is covered - very poorly. Our Tekken “scene” consists of approx. 20 people, whereas 5 belongs to the community only to socialize, not because of elite competition.

I did exaggerate a bit in my comment, but fighting games in Denmark need some serious hype, but drama isn’t needed of course.

I stopped reading after this.

hahahahaha ur shit always makes me laugh.

DP won the DP vs ShadyK MM?

yup… 10-5

Many of those definitions can be applied to any recreation. Only for a few descriptions is the definition limited to physical activity. And if we’re going to talk about athletic prowess, doing jump shots and layups is no different (at the most base level) than learning to do claw triangle jumps in Marvel 2 or learning to fast fly. These are muscle memory activities that rely on personal skill, either trained or innate. They do not rely on intellectual ability. You do not think about them when you do them. Some people just flat-out can’t. There is a skill involved. To us as a people though, a consistent jumper is more valuable than a consistent triangle jump. Of course it is - the audience for one is far larger than the audience for another. That does not make them fundamentally different.

There’s exhaustion, both physical and mental, in fighting game competitions.

I know you’ve enjoyed using the “yeah we’ll I’ve seen this” defense, so let me pre-empt you saying “yeah but I play basketball and etc.” I play basketball every week, I play fighting games every week. Training my jumper and training my fast fly are not as different as they look. Look past the surface of things. Sort of like how the discussion you and I are having isn’t really about video games at all.

Both activities actuate muscle groups, both activities require precision and grow better with practice, both activities lead to success/failure option trees which all rely on muscle memory. Both activities can be thwarted by your opponent.

The only difference is the size of the muscle groups we’re talking about and the amount of total energy invested. On a base level, to your body, they are basically the same thing.

I can’t wait for someone to post LOL U SAYIN JUMPREZ SAME AS TRI JUMPZ LOLOL and then not back that up for shit. But, this is already a long way for them to penetrate into a well-constructed post, so I don’t expect it.

Should we can the entire NBA because Garnett got fired up one day and ranted about loading 20 different types of automatic weapons for a big upcoming game? Or Iverson ranting about practice? And these are hugely high-profile, alpha examples. Breaking news, sometimes people act childish or say things without thinking. Don’t judge a man for a single action, don’t judge a game for the actions of one of its participants. It’s worth noting that in every example, including the pertinent Marvel 2 one, the offender has since cleaned up and atoned. You’ve never done anything childish, or regretted something? If so, I envy you that.

Age or activity doesn’t figure in to people acting like 6 year-olds. Donald Trump and Rosie anyone? Do you think they got that from watching Duc Jr.?

The exceptions you take to this one Marvel example are much, much larger than Marvel itself. They are flaws in human nature. I am not saying the problems don’t exist, because they do. I am saying they are not the exclusive property of fighting games and hence they are irrelevant/tangent to fighting game discussion. In all walks of life these situations come up. Most people check their bad impulses pretty well. Sometimes, they don’t.

See, I’m confused, because I think you just contradicted your own argument. I don’t talk much trash either and when I do it’s mostly in jest or to close friends only. I’m more inclined to compliment someone when they actually do well or get the better of me, because that’s more sporting. There’s that word again, sport. But I understand why people get fired up when they do. If you understand it, and I understand it, why begrudge them that? Getting fired up and taking it one step too far are two different things.

Because we do not live in a utopia. Because human nature is flawed. Because everyones’ life experiences are different. This happens in everything, not just in Marvel. I’ve seen a dude get hit in the back of the head with a baseball bat in an arcade. Why? Trash talk. See also: why Dr. D does not trash talk. But I digress: he trash talked, that’s his prerogative - but that’s also just words. The dude with the baseball bat who took it one step further fucked up, not the guy trash talking. Again, we’re talking about something much larger than Marvel 2.

You said it yourself - your situation and upbringing made you what you are today, yes? And my situation made me what I am, and gave me my perspective. The same for DP and anyone else. What’s fun for you is not the same for everyone else. Some people wanna get hype, just being chill isn’t fun to them.

Why assume no one else has ever seen cops called to an arcade, or that everyone is poor? That’s just like assuming that your definition of fun = everyone elses’ definition of fun.

I don’t disagree with anything you said there. Honestly I don’t disagree with much of what you said period, I am just saying the issues you have actually have nearly nothing to do with Marvel or video games at all, and this is actually a much larger discussion, inappropriate for this forum really. Especially given the general inability of internet users to take in more than 3 phrases total at a time. Or to construct a solid sentence that leads to a point.

Yeah, everyone does that. No one WANTS things to flare up. At my own tournaments I’ve kicked people out just for hitting a cabinet too hard or punching the buttons - let alone getting anywhere near doing that with another person. But you can’t control everything.

Well, like, with this last statement, you sound just like how I feel - if people wanna act like that I don’t hold it against them so long as it stays just talk. I don’t do it myself because I’ve seen where it can lead, too. I don’t think we’re in disagreement, I just think you are misplacing your logic. What you are talking about really doesn’t have anything to do with FGs themselves, and has a lot more to do with human nature and a lack of empathy in most people in general.

Turning the other cheek is good advice, but it’s not the reality of the world we live in. If you grew up hard, you know that already, and so do I, but not everyone reacts to stimulus in the same way. Anyways, this is way too much that has nothing to do with the topic (despite occasionally looking like it), and really I’m just avoiding finishing my 34-form tax return, so we should probably cut it out and I should probably get out of this chair.

People are selling this dude short, but then that’s pretty much the prime directive of SRK posters in general, finding ways to jab each other with hot pokers (with a close second priority of grossly oversimplifying absolutely everything). But this isn’t really the place for this discussion anyway.

Anyway…sup with those dp shady k vids?

I hate that word. African American. The only people who should be called that are people who came from Africa, like actual africans. This place is so politically correct its stupid. Suck it up and take it, its just as bad for someone to call an “african american” black as it is to call a “caucasion” person white. And if this stuff offends you then you probably shouldn’t watch or participate in it. People talkin all that mess and threatening over a fight breaking out at the arcade wouldn’t make me uneasy in the least, because 1 its between two other people and 2 I’m confident in myself that if something DID go down (which it probably wont) I’d be able to take care of myself. And lastly please don’t assume because you can’t afford to drop a grand or more that anyone else on this board are in the same situation. Believe it or not but there are successful people in the community. I mean clock got paid, and had the money to pay if he lost. that alone speaks for both parties.

Chaotic Blue

hmph disrespectful to yourself… what a self-rightous guy.

No offense if you are getting physically exhausted while playing video games then you need to see a doctor. Gots to go to work, I’ll read the rest of your arguement later.

Teach me the ways of Guilty Gear…

I hate the word African American as well. It’s so long and retarded. Do white people get called European American? I mean what if my family generations were born and raised in China does that make me an African American in America?

What’s so hard about calling black people… BLACK!?

Awww, man, you already went to the defense I made fun of. :\ I feel let down.

I don’t mean panting physical exhaustion. Ask anyone who plays fighting games well. You don’t step up for your first match of the entire day and play your best. You have to warm up. You spend a half-dozen or so games warming up in any fighter really, after that the blood flow to your fingers and forearms is increased and those areas warm up. Just like how you stretch or play a quick throwaway game before you play a serious basketball game. After the warmup your system gets the message that “Hey this is what I’m going to be doing today” and you will be at peak performance for a while. Then after you’ve sat there and played 60 straight matches of Marvel, you ARE going to start missing things more and more frequently. You WILL start missing AHVBs or fast flies or claw jumps. They are physical activities, this is not just pushing fierce. The only difference is scale. You get more exhausted playing ball because it activates a far larger percentage of your body. Imagine Marvel 2 with DDR sized buttons and tell me THAT wouldn’t be a sport, haha.

Work with me here, think outside the box. Don’t resort to stock comebacks, you were doing so well with your novels.

And yeah African American is a crap term, in a quest to somehow not offend anyone ever (impossible), we replaced terms that work with terms that get to just be inaccurate. Half-measures all around.

so who would win if they money matched again?
