Dante Video Posting Thread

I think you are underating a invincible and safe comboable crossover counter. Besides, Shadow Blade has awesome priority, fixing, IMO, Dante’s biggest weakness which are scramble situations. If I have Shadow Blade I usually just focus on teching the throws/blocking and let Morrigan reset the situation for me. Also, if I lose Dante and have to deal with incoming, I’d rather have Morrigan then Vergil. I won’t talk about Harmonizer much because I have to mess with that more.

If you are using XF2 as Vergil, you’ll probably be using DT aswell, just to kill faster. That’s more then half of your XF2 without being able to build meter. Unless you come stacked with 3+ when Vergil comes in, at best you will be left with Vergil/Strider with at most 2 meter and no XF to face a XF3 character stacked with bar. If it’s someone like Doom, it’s far from impossible or hard, but if it’s a Vergil or another Strider, or heck, even shit like Spencer or Dante. I don’t really like to bet on meterless Vergil, especially with how easy it is to fuck him up if he has no resources.

The momentum swing from swords DHC in neutral is real fucking strong tho… I really miss that from when I’m playing the Morrigan team. And the damage/execution ratio for killing dangerous low health chars easily. The Morrigan team I really gotta be on point execution wise all the time, even to kill someone like Zero.

In my main team I always use Vajra early for the extra damage boost. Volcano, MH Killer Bee, c.H + Strider, S, TK Million Carats into shot loops, and rest is whatever.

The meterless Dante stuff is with DT? I got something similar a while ago although I don’t remember the exact damage either. The tac into Morrigan after whatever combo uses the S + Morrigan, sj. THunderbolt into TAC while in DT right? About Soul Drains, the only thing I got is this…

So I saw a video a while back about Dante’s unblockable with a low assist and how to beat the hard tag escape with it, but I cannot find the video. Anyone know where it might be?

Pretty sure a Hammer always beats it. You can also dash under if your timing is good enough but I don’t really like to depend on that.

I think you should be able to block with good reaction (if you see the j.air dash C whiff)
Also as mentioned, with hammer it’s a sure whiff so you can punish (and the what I saw GreenAce does)

You can safejump the hard tag by assuming the overhead and confirming samurai edge hitting the opponent. If they do hard tag just make sure to do st. M into launch since stinger sometimes glitches and causes you to go through the opponent sometimes (there was a video posted a long time back regarding stinger going causing dante to go through people through missile blockstun. it’s similar to that) The only reliable way to beat the setup is to call assists that position themselves outside of the boxjump range to disrupt the setup. I remember off of first hand experience that assists like taskmaster arrows or beams make the setup difficult to confirm off of. I think the only way to confirm off of situations like that are to just launch immediately and SJ over the assist before it disrupts the setup. I haven’t really tested it to know for sure.

Is there an optimal, up to date Dante tutorial I can watch? I know I’m really late to the party but I wanna try the character out.

It is kinda odd such a popular character doesn’t have that many tutorials online. Probably because he’s so friggin difficult to play.

Merkyl999x, yeah it’s just for being showy. Unfortunately the hitsun det. on the move is pretty bad.

I’ve been digging pretty hard into Dante + CS and have a few options. Having a hard time finding something that’s the clear winner on damage/meter/practicality, though. Here some of the really early stuff I found.

This one seems promising but it’s pretty tight spacing/timing-wise, plus if you don’t reach the corner, you have to use VolcanoxxTK Revolver since Killer Bee won’t reach properly.

I’ve got 2 more options with potential but I’m having trouble locking them down. (I’ll try to have get some vid of them and drop them in here for illustrative purposes.)

I was messing around with this one and it has some potential. Found some more optimized options that I didn’t know about for comboing of midscreen hard knockdowns, too. I get some decent meter gain from this, but it’s not like the OMG 2+ bars and I think the best I’ve ever manage on damage was ~750 after super. I think the biggest issue on this combo is Dante not having a good option to OTG after a HKD without murdering his damage scaling.

OTG (2 shots)xxProp shredder > adic rain s.SxxMC s.S clay pigeon wall bounce, etc.

OTG (4 shots)xxProp shredder > MC (slight delay), MC > short shot loop etc. (the MC seems to be a bit late in the combo, though, so damage scaling has already taken away it’s bite.)

The other one I started looking into last night might only work on big bodies, but it has some promise.

s.MHfHxxVolcanoxxJC Airplay, IADF+X23 j.H, land, dash MC, MC, shot loop.

I’m at my wits’ end here guys. Can anyone take some time to look at this in the lab and help me out? X23 has really great HSD early on in a combo, but she pushes so far out that you have to do lots of weird stuff to get stuff to combo cleanly. I’m not sure why she’s one of the only DPs in the game that got hit with the HSD timer… (It’s too good as an alpha counter to not use, though.)

haven’t tried but maybe you could use it to connect a really late volcano>tk revolver off a hard knockdown?

lately off j.s/hammer I’ve been trying to squeeze in double volcano combos but similar to your situation, killer bee never connects; I’m thinking if CS hits a bit after you JC the volcano you could double jump to get high enough for killer bee.
