Dance with the Claw: Vega Match-up Guide/Discussion

If he doesnt have meter you get a free jump in.
If he does devil’s reverse and starts getting predictable with choosing to do the fist or not… you get free U1 (or U2 i guess but i always use U1).
Slide is unsafe.
HK SK is unsafe
EX headstomp is his most annoying move… but if you block it you can run under it and punish his landing… or focus if he doesnt have any more meter.
Don’t try to punish PC because most people that throw it out throw it out smartly so that it’s safe. I recommend jump back HK/HP
Block the “crossover” PC on wakeup… It’s ALWAYS a crossover until they proove otherwise

Bshido heat was right. The rose matchup up now is a bitchhh

What do you people do againt a good Yun with constant dive-kick pressure, other than waiting for the being beaten up getting over with the K.O.? Cause that’a what I can only do. Vega simply has nothing to do against Yun’s dive-kicks. He is not more than a cat in the rain in this match-up. I think it’s 20-1 in Yun’s favor.

Trying to be positive, but watching these…^^

Yeah, and Vega doesn’t need I-Frames on EX-ST, correct? Obviously blocking will do the trick and those of us who want I-F EX ST are scrub crybabies who should switch to an “easier character”. I get it now. By watching these videos, I have been put to shame by the many, many ways in which Vega can deal with DK/JI pressure. Lol, some of you say you have ways of dealing with it, right? Well you should talk to 2 of the best Vega’s out there, because they desperatly need your wisdom. Or maybe they should move on to an easier character like I should, right?

Some of you just tickle me pink.

if his tools worked the way they should, he wouldn’t need invul frames on ST.

in fact if you watch closely how many times does Reiketsu? jump back or neutral jump every time yun jumps only to dive kick and gain free ground. Jumping back or neutral jumping giving up space because you are forced to guess, wouldn’t be necessary provided all his hit boxes worked the way the should.

BTW, there is no positive in those video’s.

Agreed. But I thought Capcom would change ST before they even thought about touching his wonky Hitboxes. Lol, But they wont touch either obviously, this is all past tense.
And yeah I meant since I saw Vega’s AE updates I’ve been try to stay positive, but when I see shit like this it derails me. Haha I’m probably too obsessed with this fictional character anyway. Oh well, shoot me.

hey, NO one really likes playing a mediocre character. Deep down, everybody wants a better Vega.

at this point the best inderect buffs are the thrashing and Yun/Yang

deep down?

fuck deep down, i think i’ve been one of the most vocal about it…

but this just isnt fun anymore. If he doesnt get a decent buff that at least gives him a shot at being competetive then i’ma just drop the game. I’m tired of having to play at almost my best, just to get somewhat decently far at tourneys.

I’ve already tried learning a few new characters… they arent fun.

Yeah once you pop your Vega cherry, it’s damn hard to get comfortable in another character’s shoes. Homeboy is just too unorthodox, getting good with another character might require one to drop Claw completely, because mastering him requires unwavering dedication to one, unique style of play. Vega doesn’t like to share his users lol, don’t abandon him!

it was a refrence to those who say leave him be. Deep down, even the most hardcore “purist”, wants change no matter how hard they say they don’t. Its natural. But not even the king was fun?

MvC3 ruined this game for me. You should play that. I hated it at first, but then realized that the people I liked where pretty stupid, in a good way, the way it should be.

Fuck working hard BTW.

oh and I figured out an even simpler solution to the problem. the trick wasn’t thinking about it in terms of calculus or physics, but in a arithmetic fashion.

@scarlett

that is truth right there. its the walk speed imo. that spoils you so badly.

Has anyone bitched at all about the changes to Crapcom?

Because the dive kick does good blockstun and after that if you try to jump you’ll probably get hit by the next dive-kick as it can be done pretty close to the ground.

Now, I have read Yun an Yang 2012 ver. changes. I was delighted. Except for one thing: Why did they give this Yun: All dive kicks now inflict two more frames of blockstun or hitstun on opponents. That means stopping the next dive-kick will be much harder. It already does good blockstun. Why further buff it? Can someone explain this?

Don’t get me wrong. I have seen “There is now a higher height restriction on all dive kicks” there. That’s good. But if he does more blockstun, it becomes pretty much the same thing.

actually a height restriction makes dive kicking much more efficent for said character when fighting Vega. As it is right now, the height restriction on Yun and Yang, give them this nice little “space” where they can neutral jump with little to no consequence and by pass important pokes like cr.mp, cr.lp, cr.mk, and forces you to use pokes with less range like st.mp. or forces you to use a unsafe poke like st.mk because you run the risk of Yun doing a delayed dive kick, which hits you out of st.mk, or it forces you to jump. Jump being the safest option, but not the smartest option, in the long run

So in the “sweet spot”, Yun forces you to guess which poke to use, and puts you in a very bad position.

a.he either guesses right and gets a full combo in on you,
b. he doesn’t guess wrong, but you used the wrong poke so now you blocked the dive kick and are put in a very bad situation
c. you guess right, but are not rewarded significantly, and is now closer to the wall then you would like to be.

that is why, or at least when I watch the videos, think that said Vega player jump back or neutral jump. To try and punish the dive kick, avoid the mix up and buy time, and its relative safety. it is however just as costly because you either just gave up a lot of ground and ground control, or pushed yourself into the corner.

If Yun had no command grab, this wouldn’t be such a problem. However, with height riestriction, you may be able to use st.hk much more liberaly and have less trades because of the increased over all net gain of start up on yun/yang.

But, most Yuns, Yangs and Rufuses do the dive kick on exact top of your head to mix you up. So st.hk will not hit them, and you will also be hit and then eat a big combo.

I for one, do not even find st.hk as a good anti-air let alone to deal with dive kick. It can only prevent the more horizantal going ones which are done further.

i have… hell i even posted on the dev blog in the comments…

i did think it was funny that google translate translated “What the F”

I just don’t get it. Why are they not doing ANYTHING for Vega?

Like Cody and Rose getting buffed massively, all these changes to other characters…What does Vega get?

SHC causes Blow back…Who the fuck cares seriously.

But more on topic, can we talk about some of the ins and outs of the Ryu Match up?

I remember reading Jozhears big rant about how absolutely brain dead that character is Vs Vega, but I can’t seem to find it. I mean I have come along way with my Vega Knowledge and I’m even past my hard match ups, I manage to beat Big Marcus consistently here in IL and beat most players with great consistency, but when playing against (a good) Ryu, I feel like…Well…Lost.

I’m told Crouching forward is nerfed but it still boots me out of everything, am I spacing my moves correctly? Or is this move still stupid in this match up.

I feel like it’s really easy for him to control the air vs Vega and has awful repercussions for when we jump and he’s on the ground. (hurp durp, srk > Ultra 1)

When I try and space out over-heads, they are waiting with dp or throw and of which I feel I’m on the losing end no matter what I do.

Normally I have no problem with this match up but I played a really good Ryu and I feel like all those other people I played…Taught me absolutely nothing.

Any words of wisdom?

the first thing i usually do is try to do everything i can to bait out fireballs. I either go thru em or focus em for Ultra meter.
eventually they will pick up on this, and stop throwing fireballs. people who use fireball characters and rarely throw fireballs… are the ones to be scared of.
Then the game becomes poking just enough to get damage in but not so much that you get predictable and nailed for it. and also to run away… a lot.

Get Ryu into a poking match. sooner or later he’s gonna start chucking fireballs.

yeah then i rinse and repeat

Yeah that’s the only way I have success.
