Dance with the Claw: Vega Match-up Guide/Discussion

Guile is for homos. I came to play SF not chase your bitchy ass around while you’re throwing booms.

/discussion.

Balrog is making me wish that I didnt main Vega… seriously all of my mains (Vega/Juri/Cody) have Balrog as one of their worse, if not Worst match-ups. the dude’s Jabs beat the game’s engine itself -_-

@Moroha: Sakura for some reason has stuff like c.mp xx EX Fba whiffing on her as well, her and Cammy so far are ones that some of my EX FBA combos missed on. Didnt test it or anything I’m just talking from experience while playing.

WHAT.THE.FUCK. are you talking about? And is that not what Vega does? 90% of all Vega’s i play poke get a life lead and then run the fuck away. While throwing cr.mp/CH at random. Maybe you should re-evaluate what SF is. Maybe you have that Marvel syndrome. Maybe you should check it out with your local doctor.

lol who the fuck does that? you should only be doing that against characters like Gief and shit coz closing in is just asking to get SPD’d to death. Keep in mind that we’re talking about people that know what theyre doing here not random Beginners.
And if you think thats what SF is then i feel sorry for you man, must be one helluva’ of a boring game if thats all that happens in your matches.

Vegas are so nice

That we are

Uh im sorry, but that is what SF is. Its not marvel, not GG, o that shitty game called BlazBlu or however you spell it. SF is a game of analyzing, positioning, reaction. Not a game of let me press all these buttons and rush that shit down, and resets. Oh and you should not run away from Gief like that. Vega cant play the keep away game, no fireball sorry :[. And besides why would you find that boring. The drama in this game with Vega is of the fucking wall. Its like a trip on MDMA. The intensity of the mind games, the fear of pushing the wrong button at the wrong time, the over whelming pressure of not being able to punish, the fear of walking up to a character and constantly thinking shit do i jump or do i walk a bit more. There is nothing boring about this. If you do find it boring I suggest you stop playing SF because you are doing it wrong. Sort of like this guy.

BTW you would be surprised how many people do it. (Running away)

you should stop complaining so much,or start playing high tier characters.your choice.

I appreciate you writing up that big wall of text for me, but sadly nothing in it actually relates to the point I was trying make, which is that fighting Runaway Guiles is fuckin irritating. Anyways I’m done with this, you took a phrase on the internet a bit too seriously and now this is turning a bit too stupid. If I really wanted to Bitch about Guile I’d go to the Guile forums and do it there… I was just venting coz I fight a bit too many of those Guiles in Ranked.

Case Closed.

Idk if you noticed, but most if not all my “complaining” posts are listing stuff I’m having problems with and asking for help with them or some sort of solution. kthnx

Using Vega like his SF2 ways? You mean walldive spamming and cr.hk like no tomorrow?

We all wish we could use Vega like his SF2 ways. It was fun and not infuriating like when Ryu jumps on you for the 10th time and plays cross-up tick-throw mind games.

alright so against balrog, just know that you are screwed if you get in his jab pressure range just like all of the other non aa characters.if you DO happen to fall in his jab pressure, the only viable thing would be to block his jabs and look to tech/backdash or jump out.so now with this out of the way, make sure that you stop him from using random full screen dash punch shenanigans by using a lot of fas and sthks.if you get the timing right, you could also catch his turn punches with dfhks.other than that,if you knock him down you could use the crmk frame trap to condition him to not use his wakeup head butts.once you do that, feel free to mixup a couple of jumpins on his wakeup.
being a pretty high health character, you got to make sure that you get the max out of your combos.for that its vital that you learn links like jump in fierce, crmk, crlp, crmp ex fba etc.

so basically if you’re good at mixing up fas, sthks and throwing him out of his other armor break punches, you can start pressurizing him a lot from your crmp range and bait his headbutts.
a lot of neutral and jump backs would also make him think about doing random dash pundches.

i dunno about super street fighter 4,but although vanilla was in his favour it was still not an impossible matchup.

when i said sf2 ways i meant using his loops to beat out his crhps and flash kicks on wakeup.guile has no answer to your izuna loops if timed right other than a 2 frame delayed flash kick which could beat you out.(very difficult to do on his part).

now that people cannot jump forward stuff your blocked exfbas the guessing game is now more in your favour to play a bit of shenanigans.other than that if you’re good at counter poking his pokes, the matchup is not as bad as you think.now for that you need to use your normals just like how a good guile uses his normals.

i just said vega like his sf2 ways because the sf4 izuna mechanics have been discussed to death, its pretty effective against guile.

What I used to do in Vanilla is throw/kara throw him out of dash punches or nj.HK>combo. Both those options dont work in Super (AFAIK at least) so When I go to them by reflex I eat big damage, its pretty frustrating. I’ve been using Splendid Claw for Punishing/Stuffing his Dash punches and Its getting me great results so far, but that can be baited too by good players when they do lk dash hook or w/e its called >_>
Having an overhead helps a bit now coz he cant just crouch and mash jabs but its still a very hard match up IMO.

Thanks for the Input, It’ll come in handy when I fight a Rog. Playing ranked is making me build bad habits like sliding in unsafe ranges alot and doing random SHCs, I should probably stop playing that mode.

Well on the rush punch note, besides the obvious standing HK/ST route, I actually outright beat a Rog’s ex rush punch with an EX SHC on reaction. I need to test it more, but as long as you aren’t at kissing range, go to the back wall, and you’ve reacted to an EX Rush punch/sweep then you should win every time. As I said, I still need to test the other strengths of his rush and every rush variant, but this has been working for me pretty well.

yo jude!!
this is kazuya mishima from gamefaqs!

you really should see my replay vs Y_Do_You_Run. it’s pretty fucking funny actually

Vega is so awesome in this game!

If you think rose will wake up with u2, jump back fierce overhead is pretty cool!

Speaking of jump back fierce overhead, I did that to a Hakan on wakeup and his AA U2 caught me! It also catches EX SHC (as Emersion demonstrated on me hehe) so don’t try to cross him up on wakeup with that either.

Just to comment on two things. One, for a hit confirm combo, you can try using the standing lk into crouching attacks to hit confirm, I feel like cr mk is just too slow to be as reliable in most situations.

And for The guile thing, they seem to not be able to fend off wall dives once theyre knocked down. Just make sure to cross them up with it, if they flash kick you can grab them out of it or they go the wrong way and don’t have much time to air grab. I know it’s not a pro tip, but def works online.

I may be the only Vega crazy enough to do this, but you can either win or trade favorably against Guile’s Sonic Boom with standing MK.

Im new to the forums duno how all this quoting thing works, but for me the hardest match ups are claw vs boxer (not hard in terms on him being overpowering but when i have to focus harder cuz of the corny punches and recovery time after he misses anything) and claw vs blanka, ussually when i get beat by some one else its ussually cuz they knew what they were doing out just played smarter that match execpt for ryus when all u have to do is buffer the haduken and out comes uppercuts fireballs and super if u do it enough times(i remember i threw a high kick to his face he light punches my toe and got a super in :/), but BLANKA is my main concern, if u guys can share what attacks dont do trades with his spamming cannon balls , because i hate it when i smack him out i have to trade damage its never that i can just smack him out
