Yeah, if the Rufus is using those falcons after just barely leaving the ground, it’s tough.
If he gets sloppy and goes higher in the air before using the falcon kick, air throw his ass!!!

This guy I’ve been fighting has impeccable timing with the dive kicks.
If he’s doing the low body falcon kicks, you just need to move your feet in some way. Neutral jump forward, jump back fierce (sometimes) and the dashing should solve that. Cross-up dive kick should lead to free back dash escape, unless you’re in the corner. You could try focus back dash sometimes, too. You just need to make sure you have space for two straight back dashes, because after those you’re either free or in a good position to counter his next attack.
I hope they give vega something to help with wake up game in SSf4
Maybe, but until then we’ll just have to work with what we have; calm, calculated decisions in the midst of the wake-up pressure. That skill is important for every character in just about any fighting game you can mention.
There are some things that these Japanese players are doing that I really don’t want to mention. Shit is ridiculous.
Please mention them, sir. Could be interesting. =P
option selects? they rape vega
Updated the main post of the strategy/mu guide. Hope u like it :'D
lets all pray for clawyuken, full invincibility and hard to punish for most of the cast, it also leads into 2 st. rh’s and then ultra
rufus divekick on wakeup is another situation where blocking and then looking to Back dash out are your only real option, even a shitty rufus can make divekick meaty.
ideally though rufus shouldnt have a way to score kd if you play smart, you can keep his fat ass at cr. mp range without much trouble because your normals should be fucking his fat face in.
im getting my ps3 stick finally ( awesome christmas gift to myself ) and when i do me and my boys are going to start making matchup vids going over alot of the stuff that i find effective in winning with vega, rufus is actually the first one im going to do because i honestly think no good vega should ever have an issue with pig tits.
I know its been awhile since ive been on here but ive been playing more then before i just never have the drive to get on here and post because most of the strats pertaining to vega are pretty obvious.
When SSF4 drops i fully intend on being in here 24/ fucking 7 and figuring out shit with claw and helping everyone. I am definitley picking juri up though but i wont do that for awhile, all my love is going to vega for a long time after SSF4 drops.
Not sure if this is common knowledge yet, but I worked out a new anti-crossup technique with Vega: crouching Strong. It allows you to continuously charge down and yet it moves Vega’s upper-body hitbox REALLY far forward. Right now I’ve just been throwing after it but I need to start using c.Short xx EX Barcelona. Oh, and this scrub “Wonton Noodle” just dropped me on PSN. :V
Cool. I remember Bebop mentioning that before Tatsu fought Yeb.
Doesn’t seem to work very well against Abel, since his crossup is deep anyways. I just played a crapton of matches against JKChowling’s Abel and aside from gimmicky escapes and tricks, I couldn’t get any kind of control in the match. Can’t backdash Abel’s c.Fierce (it lasts too long and reaches too far), can’t turtle because of command throw, can’t really use Barcelona Dive because of his godlike j.Strong. Can’t poke a lot either because of EX CoD. Got some great experience out of it though, ggs.
About the only thing that seemed to work was jump-back Fierce on his wakeup, but I’m pretty sure Abel can punish that if he blocks it.
Just realized something about the El Fuerte match-up. ST kills all of his command throw attempts and his armored run. So, if you can react properly and hit ST when he tries to throw and focus attack -> back dash/punish when he goes for splash/slide then you can effectively kill his mix-up games.
hehe… funny you mention sincei just played Buktooth’s Fuerte at SVGL last night and wow it has made m rethink the Fuerte matchup. The way he pressured my Vega in the corner was something I had never encountered by another Fuerte player. I see now why he is arguably the best Fuerte in the country. We don’t have anyone here in Nor Cal who plays a beastly Fuerte like his, so it was defintely an eye opener.
i defintely have to rethink and study up more on the Fuerte matchup now. btw, is there anything i can do about slide on block? that move has less recovery than i thought. i was afraid to throw anything whenever he used it on me.
btw, thnx to all for the Akuma matchup advice. i’m still having a bit of trouble since i rarely get to play against good Akuma players here in Nor Cal with the exception of LPN and Nima Partovi, but the tips are helping a lot with my Vega game. much appreciated.
Throw tech, block or CH/ST if he gets obvious with the throw attempts (I doubt it). I think Fuerte is at -1 on block.
I’m not sure if anyone has already put this up, but I found you can cross over Rufus with j. HP. Just throwing it out there ^^ hope it helps on your Rufus match ups!
Is there a way to punish Abel’s wheel kick if you block it?
Crouching strong or standing round-house.
