Dan Strategies and Match-ups

I don’t see how Honda can how honda will own us that badly? And I feel dan has at least oen of two good match ups for him. But I’m not so sure. But can anyone explain why honda will destroy us? I find really easy to read, and pretty damn slow.

i dont know why he destroies dan either, but he does. i think its just that he and dan are both close range guys, and honda just does way more dmagae and has way more stamina

lk Danku fucks up Dalhsim players and his Ultra goes through his Heavy Punch.

Dan is only really BAD against the shotos and Sagat from where I’m sitting.

Yeah, LK Dan Knee messes up Sim’s pokes real bad. And if you get him in the corner, his only options really are teleport/super/ultra if you do LK dan knee on his wakeup.

airborn qcb + lk dominates the lariat. neutral jump +mk beats the lariat. never cross over. mix these in well and gief becomes defensive. trap him in corner as best u can. the rest of the mixup comes from experience.

PS… dont stay grounded… keep in the air with mixed up knees.

Yeah - I played about 5 scrubby Giefs today who spammed the lariat, and they got totally owned by the jumping lk danku.

It was hilarious.

People play against you differently when you play as Dan. If they are losing, you can almost feel the anger oozing from the screen.

man, DONT GET ME WRONG PEOPLE, i love dan. pretty much everything about him makes him my favorite sf character, but seriously… if you play against someone thats actually good and doesnt use random DP as the majority of their gameplan then they go and pick sagat, its just a beatdown. i couldnt find anything that beat s.RHK when i would try to jump in, and then his tiger spam is too fast for poor dan to counter it with his own gadokens. i have NO problem getting a few wins against people that are good with any of the shotos but seriously sagat just hands my shit back to me everytime. ive also been having trouble against good c vipers, i think its mainly becasue i can never crossup block in time on xbox live.

some of my tougher matches with dan lately is bison and cammy sometimes. with cammy i just punish any of her specials, but its hard putting pressure with that wack cannon antiair. bison is just plain hard to put pressure on with his long ass legs. other than them i dont think i have any issues, ive got most of the shotos and guile all figured out, really. the key with dan is to PUNISH!!!

I found weakness to honda. That 8-2 match up is soem mcuh BS. I swear his gaouken can stop his headbutt dead in his tracks. And my DP can knock him otu of that one move where he flys up, and comes down on you. Also you can punish his headbutt with ultra.

hes just… so… freaking… quick. i can’t even figure out how to even approach this match comparatively safely other than punishing whiffs :frowning: any help?

Don’t jump in on him much and use Fireballs plus qcb+lk to pop him when he tries to rush you. Fei Long isn’t that hard imho. It’s more that so few people play him that it’s easy to get thrown off guard when you encounter him.

the problem is honda’s normals crush dan, he doesn’t need head buts or the other moves. In fact i find hondas specials to not be all that great against dan, lk dan kicks also stuffs the headbutt.

I wanted to figure out who’s ultras could be beaten out by Dan’s so I went into training and put each character’s ultra up against Dan’s.

If the opponent inputs their ultra first with Dan doing his immediately after then he will beat out everyone except El Fuerte.

A few notes on this though-

Blanka - Will only after Blanka lands and rolls forward. The initial part in the air will still hit Dan.

Dan - In Dan vs Dan normally whoever goes second wins, but if the second Dan inputs his ultra as soon as possible then they will just bump chests and fall backwards.

Ken If you input Dans ultra as soon as possible after Kens then they will both hit once and knock each other back.

Seth Must be at close range.

Zangief Timing is VERY strict. Must input Dan’s ultra as soon as possible or Gief will grab you before you even have a change to get it out.

If Dan inputs his first then most opponent’s ultras will beat his. The only exceptions are Abel, Dhalsim, Ryu, and Zangief. Those 4 lose out to Dan’s ultra either way.

The only thing to take note of here is that if a Vega player inputs his ultra after Dan’s then he must input it so that Vega jumps to the wall behind him. If he tries to jump to the wall bahind Dan then Dan will catch him on the way up.

Really interesting, thank you for testing this. Someone should do the Dan’s Ultra vs Supers, Dan’s Super vs Supers and Dan’s Super vs Ultras, though.

Meh, someone else can do all that. I had a enough of a pain of a time just doing the ultra vs ultras.

I thought that Gief’s ultra had zero frames startup. IE if he did the move, you were already grabbed.

Its a very brief opening, I only got it to work once

Gief’s ultra has 1 frame of startup I believe
