I’m going to assume you were joking as it’s pretty obvious the developers went out of their way to make Dan more viable in SF4, this is evident in the awesomeness that is LK Dankuu (AKA Dan Knee or Knee of Justice), Kouryuken having decent horizontal range and priority, Gadouken range increased and a pretty good Ultra.
Now they just need to go all the way to complete what they started, fixing hit boxes with Dankuu and making Hisshou Buraiken not push opponents away is a must. Haoo Gadouken appears to have satisfied our needs for a juggable Ultra. Few more tweaks here and there and he’s perfect.
You could say the same for all the console characters though. Point is they didn’t add him to be a useless character to waste space, they actually put some thought and effort into him, just not enough but it was certainly a good start and hopefully SSF4 will finish what SF4 started in that respect.
Yeah I think Fei, Gen, Dan, and Cammy are still “beta” in SFIV console, in Super everybody will be more fleshed out. At least is what it’s looking like so far. I’m all for a leaping chop against Fireballs
The problem here is that Dan is substantially bottom tier already. He’s got tons of 7-3s and he’s obviously due to get more with the new roster additions and the buffing of C and D-tier characters who already are going 6-4 against him.
They have to buff him or else he’ll go from “Not really a viable character” to “Complete Arse-Nuggets”.
With every character getting buffs outside of the S and A tier, I don’t think it would be wrong to want a C-tier Dan (Relative to Vanilla SFIV). Get rid of most of his 7-3s by giving him more tools and options. I don’t care if he doesn’t have an advantageous matchup. I’d just like him to not get completely and utterly hosed by a large portion of the cast.
anyone who says dan deserves to suck is a hardcore fuckhead.
it’s not hard to make a JOKE character as opposed to a USELESS character. capcom needs to get more creative with his moves/properties to make him less of a bad version of ryu (koryu FADC into Ultra II feels like this) and more of a fully-fleshed character.
100% correct. They should have used SF4 as a chance to evolve him away from being a Ryu//Robert “Fuck You Snk” character. Just because he started out like that does not mean he has to stay that way.
It’s not that Dan deserves to suck, it’s that he is designed to be worse than any of the other characters in the game. He is a joke. And he’s not a joke because “durhur I’m fat.” or “Arriba! I like to cook!”. he’s a joke because he’s weak yet still manages to behave in the most awesome way. His nature is to not succeed.
That is his appeal. if Dan was strong, I don’t think there would be any interest for him, at least coming from me. He’d be just a Ryu who acts goofy.
Not to say, of course, that Dan does not deserve some buffs in SSF4, as I think he does. Specially considering that some of his weaknesses just look like extreme design flaws (his hit confirms, or the lack thereof)
Krackatoa: yes, that’s what I mean. he’s supposed to be bottom, but not be ridiculously bottom and certainly not because of dirty flaws in his game plan (no hit confirms, sucky pokes/normals).
Make him low tier because of a low dmg output (which kinda goes with the “lol he sucks” theme, while still giving you the chance to win if you hit your opponent enough)
And what ScrubGS said too. GIVE HIM HIT CONFIRMS. EASY ONES. It’s not like he’s a dmg beast.
i dont see the point of wanting a crappy character in the game, wouldnt it be ideal if all characters were viable, none of that counter picking? I know im dreaming, but thats what would make for the perfect fighting game. Id rather they replace dan with another character if he is still going to bend over and take it from all.
Making a game with depth which is enjoyable to play where characters have different playstyles is more important than removing counterpicking. For example, giving Dan full screen gadoukens would make many of his matchups better, but would remove his uniqueness.
If you know how to balance a fighting game to the point where every matchup on a roster of 35 is 5-5, while keeping the playstyles and gameplay of each characters their own unique experience, you’re a greater man then most of us.
Until you know how to successfully do that in the time it takes to produce a video game, you’ve got no ground to stand on in demanding that from Capcom.
