I just want to see him have better recovering normals and a half-assed normal AA.
Speeding up his cr.FP a bit would move it into “half-assed” range. It’d also give it some use outside of crumple stun and punishing the occasional whiffed Ultra. -_-;
I’d still be using crouching Koryuken, though. Trade into HK Dankicks is great stuff, if a bit too suicidal for most people’s tastes.
All I’m saying Dan needs to be the best character in order for this game to be taken seriously.
HOLY CRAP. I didn’t know that about Sean (probably because while I loved 3S, no one I played with did and I never got into the scene that tough). a 1-9?! Who the heck is that matchup against… I used to use Sean in lieu of there not being a Dan character in the SFIII series, didn’t know he was that hosed.
But yeah. Dan needs those match ups fixed to 5-5s, and I want him to win one match up, even if it’s 6-4. I want to be able to rush down with ease in that game. I’m tired of seeing Rufus after Rufus on tourney videos… that’s a character that’s more of a joke (visually) than Dan, yet he’s only held back by Zangief, Ryu, and Sagat out of being an SF god.
Sean was my fav in 3S, needless to say I hated that game lmao.
Dan’s got a 6-4 vs. Abel if he gets the knockdown first.
Dan’s not the only one with 7-3s. He just has the most with 7-3 being over a third of his matchups.
I do hope they’re careful with Dan, though. I’d hate for them to make him into the next G3-4-lyfe character ala Ken. (No offense to those that play a good Ken, though.) Playing against a Dan should still be the “WTF?” moment of the evening, similar to the way matches versus Rose are these days.
If at least half of Dan’s match ups were solid 6-4 or better I would almost hope he was the bottom of the new tier list. Also reduce his 7-3 to 30% of his matchups.
realistically I would like to see Dan’s match ups like this…
30-25% 7-3
40-50% 6-4
30-25% 5-5
That’s pretty much what it is right now. :\
In a perfect game, no character would have any 7-3 matchups, but since Capcom will err on the side of bad with Dan (can’t risk Dan being broken, really. That’d just be horrible for the Dan community), he’ll end up with a few more than if he were balanced like, say, Ryu. Hopefully he has less 7-3s than he does now, though.
Despite what people seem to think, tier lists are not the only indication of how many people play a character. I’ve probably seen almost as many Dans & Roses as I have Rufuses or Abels, and more Dans/Roses than Seths. (random note, this is really annoying because I really need to learn the Rufus & Seth matchups). I wouldn’t expect a Dan with similar matchup numbers to what Abel’s currently are to be that popular. Well, maybe if he got things like SRK, FADC -> Ultra, which I hope he doesn’t,
Don’t know where you got that info but it’s way off. Plenty of characters have 7-3 match-ups, mostly against Sagat. Vega and Guile each have a handful of 7-3’s. The worst match-up in the game is Gief against Seth, which is a 2-8 (some say 1-9).
If tiers weren’t spread so far apart
my bad yo’
for Dan [or new bottom tier]
20-25% 7-3 [mainly the hi-tier roster]
25-30% 6-4 [mainly the mid-tier roster]
55-45% 5-5 [mainly the lo-tier roster]
With the projected 8plus, [so… at least 33] having an even match up with 16 of 32 other characters is a good deal for bottom tier to me; having a bottom tier with less than 8 bad matches makes it almost anyone’s game.
Conversely, I’ld like to see the top tier [aka Sagat] with at least 12 even matches at 5-5 and no more than 8 favored matches at 3-7; wouldn’t mind seeing 2 counter picks either.
for Sagat [or new top tier]
20-25% 3-7 [mainly the lo-tier roster]
35-30% 4-6 [mainly the mid-tier roster]
35-40% 5-5 [mainly the hi-tier roster]
10-05% 6-4 [at most 3 counter matches; not hi-tier]
I think you’re playing a weird version of “Count the chickens before they hatch”.
We don’t know what Dan will be getting, or how it will effect his ability to compete. A lot of the changes we’ve listed in this hella-sweet thread would put Dan straight through to B-tier in regular Street Fighter, eliminating ALL his 7-3s and giving him some advantageous matches.
Dan needs some pretty specific changes to help him deal with his 7-3s, hopefully we get them.
He needs a command throw noogie taunt that does zero damage but saps (or steals) meter from the opponent.
Give em more shenanigans.
Holy shit that’s a good idea.
I don’t actually see them doing any meter stealing and how about instead of a noogie he spanks their ass (instead of his own)?
As M.D. said give him more shenanigans, but use this command throw idea to set them up perhaps? Make it do little to no damage and push them away but leave Dan at an advantage but not an advantage that’d give him a free hit/combo, now he’d have the same kind of mix-up he’d get off a Dan Knee.
Ass spanking wouldn’t be very Dan. He’s a very innocent character and ass spanking has very un-innocent connotations.
Except his own ass. That’s fine by me.
That is closer to my original thought, a command throw somewhere between Abel’s Sky Fall and Tornado Throw. It would grab an airborne opponent and visually ground them but they would be considered airborne for attacks, against a grounded opponent Dan would have the frame advantage too combo at will.
I wanted it to allow for extending combos as well as starting them but with pretty aggressive scaling, say j.hk xx c.hp xx gado xx FADC xx noogie blast xx c.hp xx krk xx FADC xx j.mp.
And the EX version could be used on an airborne opponent to set-up for a combo, so no aerial state, and be quick enough to use after an lk.Danku. So j.hk xx c.hp xx krk xx FADC xx EX noogie blast xx c.hp xx lk.Danku xx EX noogie blast xx c.hp xx hk.Danku.
But I don’t know enough about the game engine to tell if that would be broke as shit or not.
