TVTropes will ruin your life!
This is very true…
I’d like to see the Gado frame data tweaked a bit:
lp - 8 start-up/ 10 active/ 36 total/ +1 on block/ damage 55
mp - 12/ 12/ 38/ 0/ 70
hp - 14/ 16/ 40/ -2/ 85
ex - 12/ 22/ 38/ +4/ 40+80
This is the first time I’ve looked at frame data really so forgive me if this is a bit too much to ask for.
8 frame start up is “a bit too much to ask for”…
…you got me on active frames
I strongly suggest looking at Ryu’s and Ken’s Hadouken frame data and try again
Oh I looked. Not really applicable though, I don’t feel, as the move has a vastly different function, one moves full screen while the other not even the length of most character’s sweep. Ryu has 13, sagat has 11, Guile has 9… I’m looking to make this a move with a slightly different use, or maybe more effective at its intended use, as it most definitely is NOT a projectile in the same sense as any other in the game. More of a poke or a normal that does chip damage… Ryu’s standing far.hk currently beats Dan’s lp.Gado for speed AND distance (I cold be wrong on the distance, it is close, if I am I’ll eat my hat)
Ryu’s SRK has 3 startup frames, invincibility up the wazoo, and more range than the lp.Gado (I THINK), Dan’s KRK has 4 frames… I’m thinking the lp.Gado could be used in instances that you might use a KRK, it would have more risk on start-up but be safer on block, less range, won’t hit an opponent jumping back, doesn’t have invincibility so it is weaker as an AA.
I dunno. I could be way off base but I don’t think it would be broken (or even “broken” for Dan… which would be passable for most other characters) note also that I took the damage down just over 20% to compensate for the increased speed.
Looking at Fei’s Rekka, which would kinda sorta have a similar use, it has 7 start-up frames, covers more distance, and can be combo’ed for 160 damage. there are other drawbacks to it though, but I don’t think 8 frames is outta line at all the more I look at it.
One option is to remove the vulnerable/collision hitbox from Dan’s forearm. Not only would it would it make Gadouken less likely to get clipped by normals, et cetera, but it would increase his combo potential, as your opponent would no longer get pushed out past arm’s length when using a fireball at close range.
Couple this with a buff to a speed increase in his normals (cr.MK specifically) and now you’ve got access to some nice blockstrings and links, along with some even more epic stuff in the corner.
make gadoken like it was in CvS2, a really quick, decent-ranged anti-poke tool
But they’ve already added a purpose for Gadouken in this game, to be combo material. Gadou FADC Ultra shows that best, imo.
You mean, Gadoken xx Super Taunt, right?
EX Gadouken xx FADC > Ultra… or you can Gadouken xx EXFA Lv.2 > Ultra
Of course, the former only works at close range, and the latter only works in the corner or point blank on Abel/Certain characters.
Dan really can’t do much with his Gadouken that the other characters can’t.
The fact they had it in the combos shows they wanted it to be possible, though, so maybe as part of their balancing of Dan, they’ll make it more useful.
EX Gadouken > Ultra is also possible at the perfect spacing, since it hasn’t been mentioned.
I want to know what Dan players think about this:
Is it enough for Dan to just be a joke character, or does he have to be low tier too?
Personally I’d want to see Capcom to turn him into a viable character. I’d love a mid tier Dan.
The majority in this thread want him to be viable as a character, or he’d just be a waste of a slot, which is why so many people hate Dan, I think. They think he’s just a waste of space that can’t be used, so his development time should’ve been used on someone viable. If he was viable, though, I think that’d destroy that argument.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of people got roflingly butthurt when I suggested a mid-tier Dan on the Unity forums. I made a ridiculously tl;dr post about some compiled suggestions.
So instead of some copypasta of more copypasta, here’s a link to my post on Page 2.
Looking over it again, it’s just me elaborating on UltraDavid’s list and then making Ultra suggestions. Still, it’s all what I want to see.
They should buff him up like how shingo was a bit of a joke character in KoF '98 yet he was quite a powerful character even though he couldn’t wield flames…
There’s nothing wrong with having a comic relief character yet at the same time making him powerful.
Dan for evo 2010!
Yeah man. I actually had this thread bookmarked for a couple days. Then I read the replies and became sad.
Unity forums are a joke when it comes to character balance suggestions. Most anyone who actually knows what they’re talking about or has a decent opinion actually avoids talking to much about balance since all the noobs and scrubs tend to get all pissy whenever someone brings something up outside of “nerf Sagat/Ryu/Akuma/T.Hawk” (yes, T. Hawk for cryin’ out loud). Only one in that thread worth having a conversation with is TongariDan since he actually know what he’s talking about.
I think they’ve done an admirable job of balancing things out, they’ve kept him true to his parody roots and made him “viable”. He has the tools to win any match-up. PERIOD.
Some of them are just really fucking hard. If you lose a match it is your fault not the designers. There are a few exceptions to this but all in all it is true.
That being said I DO want to see improvements in SSFIV, this “hes a joke y make him bettr lol joke chars shud b jokes lol” bullshit is nothing but opining from those with nothing of substance to add to a quite serious discussion. I mean this is DAN we are talking about here
Yup. Seth? Easy. Zangief? Piece of cake. Sagat? No problem. Ryu, Akuma, Blanka, Honda? 5-5 match-ups.
