SNK’s AoF series had taunts that reduced the opponents meter.
MvC series had Omega Red reduce the opponents meter [and health] before too.
Dan having his roll taunts do this seems plausible.
while there are a number of ways to set it up [ranging from basic to highly complex] i chose this example.
:qcf: or :qcb: + [taunt] = rolls distance of abel’s mk.roll then taunts
taunt is special and super cancelable; doesn’t drain enemy meter if canceled
can input after with :r: or :l: + [taunt] for follow up to 3x
third iteration or :u: + [taunt] causes a ‘dan flip’ with mk.demon flip distance and lands with a taunt; increases enemy meter drain and ends roll string.
during ‘dan flip’ a [taunt] in air will focus like Gouken’s; increases ultra bar gain when hit
holding [taunt] could effect the distance traveled too.
imho, a meter relevant taunt lets Dan burn ex and get supers earlier.
I definitely agree with this. Against a good Gief that knows his character, there isn’t shit that Dan can do. If a better footsies game could help remedy this, then I’m totally on board.
more taunts
taunts raise your meter and/or lower your opponents (I would love an ex move that could take off a whole bar of super, or erase ultra) Jun Koku Satsu <----needs to be in an actual FIGHTING game
Otoko Michi
autograph projectile
slightly better footsies
ultra can’t be FA’d
that’s pretty much all i wants
Dan should be a character that makes you laugh…not a character that makes you laugh then cry cuz you can barely beat anybody with him.
I didn’t want to say it because I don’t play as Zangief or Seth. It certainly feels like an 8-2, but I attribute that to lag helping Gief’s approach.
Honestly, keeping Gief out with Dan is like brain surgery. His normals easily beat out all of our normals, and as soon as he gets a knockdown it takes guessing the mixup correctly alongside some very careful execution to get back out safely.
Dan can’t even MK or HK Dankus in this matchup without getting SPD’d. I don’t think he even has any safe hitconfirms outside of FADC’ing a cr.MK xx Gadouken or a slow-arse jump-in HK.
RushDan: Similar to Gief’s green hand. Will absorb a fireball and deal some damage if it connects.
Dan down: Same as above but instead of absorbing the damage from the fireball it is left as gray recoverable damage same as an FA, the plus being that Dan trips towards the end of the dash and hits low.
Dashing Dan taunt/ Focus Attack: Perform the motion and Dan does a simple running taunt with no special properties, can be used interchangeably with the forward dash, same distance speed and recovery. However if you hold the buttons beyond that point Dan continues to run as the dash charges in the same fashion as a normal focus attack, ultimately ending in a crumple same as a lv3FA.
Oh yeah I got that. I’m just thinking that as it sits now the fact that taunts have no real use is what makes them insulting, ridiculous, or what have you.
As I said, I’m on the fence about it. At first I was all for it, made a few posts about taunts I’d like to see but now I’m kind of second guessing it. I think really it will come down to the changes they make to the other characters. I don’t want to see Dan climbing too high up the bottom few rungs of the tier listing nor do I want to see him with even larger gaps between him and the top.
I’d like to see improvements in his history. Some random images:
[LIST]
[]Him teaching Saikyo style to small kids on his dojo, one of them taking them seriously and calling him “sensei” (while the others make fun of him).
[]Telling his pupils about that time in which he fought Akuma and won (and then Blanka enters the Dojo and Dan thinks it’s Akuma and starts panting)
[]A crappy motorbike - like a pizza delivery one.
[]Dan singing a song about how awesome he is in the Karaoke (I believe it is quite popular in Korea)

Now, for real improvements on the fighting
[LIST]
[]Some ground links please. thanks
[]faster gadouken recuperation time or smaller hit box
[]roll
[]Redo the smile animation at the Ultra’s end. It doesn’t look natural.
[*]Needs more light effects and explosions on the Ultra & super, to show off more. Even if damage stays the same.

I’d assume it’d be more popular in Japan than Korea, from all the stereotyping.
I do like the idea of having kids being taught Saikyo and none, bar one very loyal child, who Dan treats like a son, taking him seriously at all. He invited two boys to join in Legends - Sakura and they threw away the cards, so, there’s precedent for it.
Slaps himself Silly me. Dan is Japanese, and went to Hong-Kong in order to change his nationality for apparently no reason at all. I don’t really remember where I read that though…
