Damsel in Distress: The Discussion (Kickstarter Feminist plays video games)

WARNING! A WHITE KNIGHT HAS APPEARED!

I’m surprised that the guy never mentions the money she made from Kickstarter and I think the guy has never heard of the free alternative option commonly known as TV GRANDMAFUCKING TROPES!!! He seems to praise the video a lot for being informative.

This dude’s daughter wanted to play as the princess in Donkey Kong. He patched the game so she could.

This, I find, is a somewhat more direct approach than raising $150K just to copy and paste preexisting criticism.

my response to anti-sex feminists:

I don’t think you people realize how many page views (aka money) stories like this generate for journalism outlets, game-centric or not… The more sensationalism the better!

I played tons of 8 and 16 bit games with playable female characters all the time. I don’t know if they were sexualized or not because I’m not sure what would satisfy Internet gender police. Ms. Pacman’s pink bow might be too oppressive for all I know. Things went downhill in video games with Mai in Fatal Fury and Lara Croft/Tomb Raider at least for “mainstream” releases (ignoring those creepy Japanese adult digital novels for PC-Engine and Mega CD). If I had a daughter and I forced her to play 30+ year old games to feel better about myself, I know plenty of decent alternatives to rom-hacking.

You have weird reactions to stuff.

And yet you still donated.

That’s weird? Did you read the comments in the video you linked? Not like I recommend doing that.

Ignoring this festering gender role debate, it was a nice gesture for the dude’s daughter I guess.

The only thing I’ve donated recently was sperm to your mother, sister, or significant other.

Somebodies in a crabby mood.

Maybe you should try taking some kind of testosterone supplements so you can stop lashing out at men like some kinda rape victim with something to prove sweetheart.

This is awfully specific.

Welp, you’re awfully effeminate, Lois.

I bet you’re super masculine, with a mustache and big muscles and stuff. You’re the kind of guy who dresses like a biker, because leather and chains are for real tough guys. When you flex at the gym, it’s not like you’re trying to attract the other dudes, but it just makes you feel good to have the attention.

I wish I could be that manly, but alas, I am not.

Stop hitting on me dude, you’re making me blush.

I would never hit on anyone who comma splices so flagrantly. Major dealbreaker.

Wait what?.. Isn’t this girl old news by now? Why are people still talking about her?

I saw one of her videos about female characters being impregnated against their will. I don’t think I’ve even seen any of the shows she mentioned except Star Trek: TNG. She had a point there-Troi was raped an awful lot on that show, like weirdly psychically raped several times, which made watching the show with my grandmother uncomfortable.

The thing is though, I don’t think that even had to do with any kind of misogyny. The writers of that show were fucked up if you consider all the cases where characters were physically or mentally forced to do something against their will by outside forces. Q toyed with them a bunch of times, dressing them up and shit. Picard was made into a Borg and murdered thousands of his friends. The crew was abducted into another dimension and had their arms cut off and reattached. Ghosts of criminals took over three crew members. Barclay was taken over by an alien intelligence, Barclay used the crew in his holodeck fantasies, Geordie used that engineer he loved in a holodeck fantasy, Data got taken over like 3 times a month, Riker was abducted and psychologically manipulated by a little kid, Geordi’s visor was tampered with by Klingons, Picard was forced to live an entire separate life, and this is just what I can remember right now. There must be plenty more and you wonder why anyone on that ship was brave enough to even get out of bed in the morning.

What’s my point? I don’t know, maybe there needs to be an equivalent of this woman who analyzes the writers of shows. Was Rod Serling obsessed with returning to a less complicated past because of what he saw in WWII? Someone should start raising $150k and get on that.

I just finished watching the video, and…I don’t see anything wrong with it.

We can’t deny anything that was said in the video, yet some people saw fit to send threats. I don’t know how any of us can hate on the fact that she got nearly $150k when it was our fault that that happened. I think the problem here is that people see a feminist and automatically believe that she’s worthless. Never mind that the issue she brought up is valid.

Anita basically called out something that’s long overdue for a change. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Sending her death and rape threats is *not *a proper response, and is a good reason to have less anonymity on the Internet.

1st of all, everyone with an opinion on the internet gets hate comments and if he’s popular enough, even death threats. Nothing new about it and it’s always some pussies with keyboards who shouldn’t deserve any attention. She is the first to play the victim card and somehow twist it that it’s actual war out there, and that even the legitimate criticism is a part of it. 2nd, you haven’t watched her other videos right? The drama started right when she launched the kickstarter project exactly because of the existing videos.
Like this one:

Or the one where she complains about misogynistic porn advertisements that ruin her experience on torrent sharing websites. (Yeah, really.)

How is it our fault that she managed to wring $150k out of a bunch of suckers so she could do something that tons of people have already done for free? Hell, even salaried critics never got paid anywhere near that much.
