Daigo Umehara SF4 Exhibition at NSB13!

Hey Guys,

It looks like Daigo (and Mago) is the guy to beat nowadays in Japan. It seems that everytime he attends a bigger tourney the Japanese organize some sort of exhibition against him. This time, though, they went ALL OUT. This Kumite is ridiculously strong and one of the most tense (and fun!) matches I’ve seen yet. I think the BEST match in this was, once again, Daigo vs. Mago. These two put on a show and it always goes down to the wire. Although, I would contend that Daigo vs. Momochi was a runner-up simply because the entire match was pure mindgames and tactical positioning. I’m going to refrain from putting my thoughts down on the matches in the first post so that people have change to view the fights without the result being spoiled! I want to know what people thought about this exhibition and the outcome in relation to the other Kumites Daigo faced.

The Fights in order are:

Umehara vs Pie (Grandmaster Sagat, 15 BP rank)

Umehara vs Tokido (no intro needed)

Umehara vs RF (no intro needed)

Umehara vs Kindevu (World’s best Rufus!)

Umehara vs Mago (World’s best Sagat!)

Umehara vs Pamyu (Grandmaster Bison, 36 BP rank (NSB13 teams winner: He OCV’d a team of RF, Kindevu and Momochi! Don’t sleep on him))

Umehara vs Hisyou (Strong Sagat)

Umehara vs Momochi (No intro needed)

Umehara vs Bonchan (Grandmaster Sagat, was like the 3rd ranked Sagat behind Mago and OjisanBoy before he lost his BP card)

thanks for uploading these.

Freakin awesome uploads…

WHY CAN’T MAGO WIN!!!

Yeah, that bait at the end of the match was so freakin’ clutch that I literally put my hands on my head in disbelief. Umehara is the only guy that consistently pulls some shit out of his ass when he has like pixels of health remaining…the guy is downright fearsome when he’s about to lose, so goddamn clutch.

I liked how Mago played it though, he didn’t seem to get caught in the ‘standing jab’ new technology Daigo was using against the other Sagats (the way Daigo trapped RF in the corner with that was just wow). He seems more prepared than any other player. What this Kumite showed I think is that Mago is truly a special Sagat as he played Daigo completely differently than the other Sagats.

Awesome set of videos, thanks for the upload.

I always enjoy seeing Daigo make the odd mistake here and there. Reminds me that hes human.

Daigo the BEAST!! So clutch in that Mago match.

These are some of the best matches in a while, Daigo coming up clutch against Mago.

The match with Kindevu was also very interesting. The 3rd round was just a total mindfuck for Kindevu. He kept guessing wrong and just got blown away.

Gotta give it up for Momochi though, well played.

Mago choked, I really want him to beat Daigo, but he’s got some kind of mental block when he plays against him.

I don’t know about that. Mago played the match very well. It was just an unbelievably clutch bait under pressure by Daigo, rather than a choke job on Mago’s part. You can basically look at Daigo’s comebacks in two ways, either he steps up under pressure and performs well or his opponent chokes. Since he does this quite often, I’m leaning more to him performing really well under pressure.

I hope all the shoryu’s go down the shitcan for super. The reason Daigo (yes, other than being godlike) dominates at this game is because he has been using Ryu (arguably the best character) for his whole life and the game is crazy fireball/uppercut friendly.

I am just bitching cause some online ryu beat me 12 times in a row with neutral jumps and shroryu’s. Nerf ryu. Anyway, great matches thnx.

I thought Daigo was famous for his clutch comebacks, besides his mind-reading.

stop complaining and step your game up!!!

how can you get beat by jumps and srk’s???

what was you doing?

who do you main?

Daigo played Guy alot for Alpha 3, and was just as good. Hey played Ken in 3s when the game wasnt fireball/uppercut friendly.

Daigo plays for hours every day against the best japanese players. As long as some Shoto character in the game is decent he’s probably gonna be really good. If he really wanted he could put thousands of hours into any char and dominate with them too.

Since we’re talking about the pros here, can anyone tell me about Uryo, probably the best C. Viper player is? Why is he in select tourneys when he beat Daigo with his Viper and came close to Mago’s Sagat(all in Gods Garden)?
Still a newbie on the scene of pros but atleast I should know about the pros that mains the same character I’m trying to main.

Well here’s this interview for you: http://youtube.com/watch?v=LTCidisgjBU

That’s only part 1, just keep clicking and go through all of them. Uryo to me is the most exceptional Viper, and look at how much work he put in to be up there.

Awesome!
Good stuff man, and the arcade version is slower than console?? I gotta get out there and check it out then. It’s funny how he started using Viper and now I found out why there’s nothing on Joe’s Viper now.
Thanks man!
