Daigo Umehara SF4 Exhibition at NSB13!

Woohoo!! Good on Momochi!! I knew he wouldn’t dissapoint.

Daigo is amazing but I wonder if he can stick with Ryu in Super. It sounds like Ryu got the nerf stick shoved up his ass.

Cool! More c.MK > Hado (…) SRK > Ultra spamming…! :lovin:

I won’t need to fill that Prozac prescription after all! :woot:

Huh??? All I’ve heard so far is that damage on Ultras that hit characters in Juggle state (like Ryu’s DP, FADC, Ultra) will be reduced and Ryu won’t be able to trade reversal DP on wakeup xx Ultra anymore as he’ll reset if trading. That might seem like a nerf on the surface, but every character in SSFIV has supposedly seen a reduction in damage in general, while the “top-tier” characters like Sagat and Akuma have gotten some severe retooling in their mechanics.

I’m sure Daigo’s Ryu will still be a beast. He’ll just have to rely more on his skill than broken game mechanics.

Even if they made ryu as weak as gouken, people would still overuse him online.

From what I can tell, his DP is nerfed beyond recognition. It’s 2 hits with less total damage than the original 1-hit version. Only first hit is cancellable for FADC ultra with an already weakened ultra, so even less damage there. Even as a plain antiair (just DP, no FADC), look at how poorly multi-hit uppercuts currently work as antiairs. My guess is that only 1 hit of the DP will typically connect as antiair (possibly even as a “glancing” blow for reduced damage), which means WEAK damage.

Someone correct if I’m wrong but I think the way they eliminated trade into ultra was to make the opponent fall faster and/or further away. So that might eliminate Jab DP into ultra as well.

Then there’s talk of uppercuts in general having less priority. So trading more often (possibly even getting stuffed clean) with no followup combo bonus. Trading a j.HK with 1-hit DP will probably go in the jumpers favor. He doesn’t really have any other antiairs. cr.HP is weak and lacks range, s.HK is slow, air-to-airs are unreliable.

Not to mention no more “super while the fireball is still on the screen” trap.

He will have no more antiair prowess, and only a mediocre ground game left intact. So I’d be interested to see what Daigo does.
