<EDIT>MAJOR DISCLAIMER: daigo is not retired as of now. he did slow down at one point and it seemed like he stopped but according to sources in this thread, he is back and ready for evo. DAIGO RETURNS.
the purpose of this thead is now this: ive gotten interested in collecting daigo footage in both st, a3, 3s, cvs2 (they will get more rare than they already are if daigo has indeed retired). This thread’s purpose is to post links and directons to getting those vids.
Thank you all for the contribution of both information and helpful links. I will post my link here soon. I also think this thread should be extended to both videos and video discussion of daigo’s mindset during those games and the different counters/baits that he chooses. This doesnt have to apply only to Justin vs daigo (which has been beaten to death. Daigo won it. He has the guts to win under tough situations. Dont need to elborate on that do we?).
I read it in one of the SBO 4 journals by forgenjuro. Said something like “Daigo focuses on job at mah jong, place, which he also plays”. Sounds more like he switched games to me.
I think this year’s evo would get him out of retirement. That’s some mad cash and basically free money for THE BEAST. You know he would get top 8 easy in almost everything lol
so like i guess this answers what daigo does when eh is not playing. i mean, everyone gotta earn, to quote “nigga gotta eat”. what do most of these japanese players do aside from gaming anyway? surely they cant depend on that shit for thier livelihood
lmao at the “Happy Birthday, Daigo” pic. Perfect image chosen.
To me it has a double meaning. It could’ve also meant that Daigo got lucky as hell during that one “EVO moment” match vs. Justin Wong, and pulled a win out of his ass.
The writing in red on the Beast Daigo website says he just got second place at the 2nd Club Sega Super Turbo Cup 5 on 5 at Club Sega in Shinjuku on May 6, 2006! So he’s not completely out of the game!
I was a witness of that “EVO moment” in person at Cal Poly. I don’t need to “watch” anything.
And yes, I am fully aware of the “oh look, notice how he was moving back and forth for a parry bait!”. I am also aware of the full situations and factors into the match (time running down for added pressure, Justin taking an early lead, Justin obviously having momentum, etc., etc.)
Odds were STILL against Daigo’s favor in that situation. Yes, even if you’re Daigo. If Justin’s last connected hit (Chun Li crouch MK that traded) did one or two more pixel’s worth of damage, he would’ve won. Heck, if it wasn’t a trade, Justin would’ve easily cancelled that into SAII, no questions asked. Face it, it was a Happy Birthday, Daigo moment.
Thanks, anyway, champ. I guess I learned something new today.
