Wtf? was bas the one screaming like a girl at the end of the video? I thought mago was cuz magos always fuckin hyper(as seen on SBO2 finals).
yeah that was mago, it said 2p side above the cab
Man, that K-groove vs A-Vega match was painful to watch. What can I do with K-Geese?
I don’t think it’s possible to do a Raging Storm on reaction against Vega’s j.HK. Nitto used his Geese d.MK to stuff Vega’s d.MK from far away which I thought was pretty nice. My friend told me to use Geese’s far s.HK to get in after Vega whiffs his d.MP. When done correctly supposedly, Geese d.HP will beat all of Vega’s jump-ins too but I don’t know about that. It seemed like Nitto had a hard time playing this match (unable to get in or guard break) and that sucks.
Anybody else notice Sagat’s s.LP completely whiffing on Bison at 2:03? Was it because BAS was holding back and too far away, or something crazy going on?
Can’t low jump at charging Bison at all either because RC psycho crusher is so easy to execute on reaction.
Nice tech roll catch for Nitto at 2:16.
Nitto getting greedy and trying to punish scissors kicks with Sagat s.LP (both one hit and two hit versions). He missed both times though? I don’t care if I’m cornered and losing, I still always go for d.MK. I think Nitto might of walked back by accident maybe when trying to punish the two hit one.
Damn, Bison was about to get his dumb jumping ass DP’d at 2:25, but Nitto messed up his Tiger Uppercut. I saw the crouching fierce animate and that sucks.
@ Mago mashing on random Blanka d.HP or s.HP whenever somebody tries to throw him.
Anyway, I think A-Vega is too strong and makes the game unfair. The only character I think that can compete against him is A-Blanka but not everybody wants to use A-Blanka all the time and that’s not fun.
Rolento is one of the few characters that can hit Vega back after Vega whiffs his d.MP but that hardly makes it an even or or counter matchup I think. I just can’t stand fighting against this character, and I don’t like it if even Nitto is having a tough match against him too.
EDIT - Video problem fixed, and what do you know it really was a throw whiff. woop.
While I’m nowhere near tops, I think Ken, Sagat, and Yama all do real well against Vega. I remember a long time ago Viscant saying Yama/Vega was hella in Vega’s favor, but I don’t think that’s the case now.
well unless yama learned how to fight like a ninja in a updated version of cvs2, then yeah, he could take out vega.
but if its the cvs2 i know, vega makes both yama and ken cry during that match. there only hope is to land a knockdown and proceed to mix up for maximum damage before vega runs away again and just pokes them to death .
kcxj - bison walks back so that is why sagat whiffs s.lp at 2:03.
I think A-Blanka shuts down A-vega pretty easily. Especially R2 blanka because elec owns vega for free. I think Mago should’ve taken it at evo 2k5… I’ve seen to many mago vs bas matches and its always mago that wins it
I did find it pretty interesting that all weekend doc b was saying that Yama was going to be his Vega counter before NCR - I was laughin at him, but then after watching Oliver’s Yama tear up Ricky’s Vega in the team finals I wasn’t really laughing anymore. Sounds like they know something we don’t.
EDIT - kcxj, I’m not sure where you think Mago’s mashing the d.hp or the s.lp, all I hear is a double tap. That doesn’t quite seem like mashing to me. And ‘random’ indicates to me that he’d be doing it at times OTHER than when someone’s trying to throw him, which is also not the case. At least as far as I can tell.
Call me crazy, but i’m pretty sure it was a throw wiff…I even thought I heard sagat do the “OH!?” Not that important.
What is important is the iyo dhalsim service on that iyo vs knit video
You’re right. It is a throw whiff. If you play the animation really slowly you can see sagats throww whiff animation. Good eye!
Edit:
I took a screen capture. Sagat whiffs throw while bison walks back.
a groove is fucking retarded
really theres nearly nothing geese can do but get risky against vega.
that match was pretty much played out as it should have been played.
pretty much dont expect any geese vs. vega strats that arent already seen in that vid, afaik.
geese just doesnt have enough options to fight vega with.
it seems to me that a geese player has to rely on the vega players shortcomings, and really if there isnt any, then you cant do shit.
My friend told me about how Nitto was using Geese d.HP xx MP Reppuken a lot at Evo. He times it so it hits counter hit, and since he’s Geese, he’s doing a ton of dizzy when it hits, and just as much guard crush damage when they block. I noticed Nitto using exactly that in this video but I forgot to mention it. d.HP xx Reppuken this cheap bitch until his clothes fall off.
yup
Yea yea new vids.
-Kim
Great vids, thanks. OTK is sick.
kim, in ftp://shogo3s:orange@makoto-ftp.xpreshost.com/public_html/videos/ :
are OTK vs D44 and Iyo vs Knit also from this tournament?
Sweeeet new vids.
Whats up with the OTK vs Buktooth mind game in the beginning. Is that the new strategy now? let the timer run out to see who their R2 is going to be?
BAS vs OTK - Damn. I was rootin for Bas. But OTK definately deserved the win. Bas needs to chill out. Kyos counter hit set ups are excellent. Also, it seems like BAS uses the negative edge method to RC vegas jab claw? Just curious on that.
Man I didn’t know that rocks super punished hibiki slash combo, haha. Those were awesome matches, thanks kim for keeping the cvs 2 love alive. And Mago is a cheap asshole, and I Love it.
Oh man Otaku is cool, haha, overhead into super. Yay.
Awesome matches, Kim.
OTK and “Kyanberu” are too damn good it’s broken.
-Against Vega doing wake-up RC crystal flash, Rock jump straight up, land, WALK (not even run) behind, free close s.HP combo. If Vega did wakeup flip kick instead, Rock can still JD on reaction and punish.
-Rock JD Vega random d.MP, super on reaction (Does Rock still get a free super after JDing only the second, claw only part of the d.MP though? Josh Wong complained to me once about that move about how it’s only like -1 even on the JD)
-Iori make the other guy block a bunch of low shorts, MAX range d.LK, FAR s.LK xx super
-Morrigan make the other guy block a bunch of flying kicks, fake so it TOTALLY looks like she is going to do another flying kick, walk up d.LK, d.HP xx super
-What the heck is that OTK trick at the end when he runs, cancels the run with something insanely fast, throw you as you get up? He mixes it up with the “cross-up” running slash, that’s why it’s so tricky. I need freeze frame or something to see what’s going on though. I want to say Hibiki whiffed s.LP, but my friend says s.LP doesn’t whiff that fast. I suspect it might be a perfectly timed run skid now. I would be really cool if it wasn’t either of those and something crazy isntead though (like a wierd kara cancel maybe).
-OTK is smart and knows the power of random activate when he’s on the defense against a full CC guy, so he’s patient and takes the throws like he should.
-This is stupid and obvious, but I didn’t know this… Rock get free j.HK (hit confirm), d.MK xx qcb+HP combo whenever he jumps over a Yama saa! (I would of just done j.HK, hit or block sweep because I’m awesome)
-Rock had trouble getting in on Yama at one point. Instead of getting frustrated, he’s patient and waits to sneak in his j.HK. Then RUN in counter hit s.LK (frame advantage from the j.HK covers him), 360 grab. That’s awesome and really smart because he punished the guy once for mashing already, very likely he’ll block up and eat the grab next.
-Kyo JD Blanka d.HP, far s.HK xx super :badboy:
-Hibiki can kara cancel into her KKK move to escape mistimed CC’s apparently too (like Blanka can with his b+KKK). My friend tried it after seeing OTK do it in this video, but he said he’s getting hit during some kind of recovery. My first response was “mash harder… lol”, but then I looked at the frame data in my CvS2 book to think that maybe the trick is to cancel LATER.
The KKK move has 20 frames of full body invincibilty, and can be canceled on frames 3~28 into the back hop move. The back hop move has zero frames of invincibilty. I think my friend mashed too hard and was getting hit during the back hop move STARTUP. Anyway, I think OTK waits to see what the opponent does after he dodges the first CC move, lets Hibiki pass through completely and safely before he cancels into the back hop.
Get it? So he’s using the most of the 20 frames of invincibilty he needs to dodge safely first, instead of canceling right away and only using the first 3 frames. Ehhh… nevermind, just mashing Blanka it instead.
What are some things common characters can do to punish a blocked, max range Hibiki overhead attack?
I know Iori d.LK xx Iori punch and far s.MK xx super at close range that’s it. If I could do sweep or Tiger Uppercut for the knockdown with a no super Sagat, that would be great too. Maybe Kyo’s dp+LP because it has a lot of horizontal range too? Rolento level 3 tripwire for sure.
