Cvs2 team formation: discussion/suggestions, etc

K- Zangief, Chang, Raiden(2)----Zues’s Beard!!

Ive been using this team for a while now.

K Ryu/Mai , Rock, r2 Kyo

Ive been reading that Kyo isnt a good anchor but I think hes better than the other characters on my team.

I also use C rock, ??, and R2 Ken. so I get the same feeling when I switch grooves. But I wanna get a good anchor for the team and leave ken in.
I ve been thinking about Maki.

eh… maki as an anchor?

c-sagat is an awesome anchor. doesn’t need meter, and when he does have it, his level 2 cancels are too beastly.

rock really isn’t that great in c-groove. his level 2 cancels aren’t good at all.

I’ve played K- Rugal Yama Geese for awhile, but I don’t think K is that team’s best groove, I was thinking either C-Geese, Yama, Rugal, or N-Geese, Rugal, Yama. One benefit from playing that team in K is that I didn’t have to learn RC.

I dont know, I find maki really awesome especially for my play style.
Shes really mobile and great with meter. I dont see why she wont work well as an anchor. (but I might just leave ken as the anchor)

I find rock good in most grooves. He doesnt use meter much but occasional lvl 2 raising storm anti air works welll. But I mainly only use his meter after an evac toss in the corner or if I have lvl 3 in stock. Dash and roll changes his play style from run and lowjump and JD. Just enough to play him a bit more effectively when I switch from K to C.

Maki doesn’t do to well against the top tier characters…thats not to say you can’t win but its gonna be a long uphill battle don’t see many c maki’s either she’s usually played in k or N so i’m not too sure about her level 2 cancels

i wouldn’t say kyo is a bad anchor but there are definitely better ones(see top tier)…my suggestion to you is play what/who you like and if you start getting your ass handed to you …you will either dedicate more time to fighting the bad matchups or switch up your characters…blanka is pretty bad for kyo…basically anyone who can keep him away is bad…sagat, vega, yama, hibiki…etc etc

as far as c groove …rock isnt’ as good in capcom grooves imo …shotos aren’t meant for r2 status in this game i don’t think simply because you could bump ken to r1 and place sagat as your anchor…the thing i think ppl are trying to get you to think about is the matchups…granted if you dedicate yourself to a particular character you can learn to fight anyone…look at buk’s morrigan…but he is buktooth and pretty damn good…so just make sure you get your shit out and keep fighting man…play what you like not what the book says is good

i’m playing k-Ryu, Rock, SagatR2 so i definitely like ur k groove team just keep working at it

id use rock as a ratio 2 out of everyone on that team…

im outi

Roberth

r2 rock is not bad at all. he’s so random he can get away with all types of 50/50 nonsense. i just hate fighting bison with him.

^
Even with K-Rock? I like that match. It’s just A-Bison with meter that puts a halt on the randomness, but Rock is a solid character in general…so he can deal with him anyway.

new team X)

a-rolento, blanka, bison

it just always feels like an uphill battle, even when he doesn’t have meter. if he runs, it’s annoying as hell and if i’m not raged, i feel stuck. once he’s got the bar it’s even worse because i get nervous to go for a tick into 360 or counter hit short because i know whoever i’m playing is just mashing on activation. i’m sure there’s a lot i don’t know about that match up though since i stopped really trying to play him a while ago.

screw my last post caution i have swagger jacked buktooths team(iori,morrigan/chun,hibiki) and nuki the team he used at evo 05(gouki,chun,sagat) what makes hibiki so good in n compared to a

Deadly Rave super into dizzy or lvl one…
Still has RC, gains run and low jump, which I think are more beneficial to her than dash…
Super is easier to connect than custom is to complete, 'cause even her generic (low fierce x2 xx slash) xN gets messed up a lot for some reason.

I like Maki against Sagat Blanka and Bison. Against blanka you get easy hit confirmable meterless combos but his jump kinda messes me up, especially low jump. I like RC Genko on both sagat and blanka who can otherwise dominate your mid-range game. RC run is nice too. Bison is not an easy match at all, but the reason I mentioned him is cus you get to do that bushin chain pressure/mixup and can KKK out of sticky activations if you’re focused enough. She does pretty well against a Bison that holds down-back a lot, as opposed to one that actively runs away. I guess what I’m saying is, she’s not an awesome anchor, but if you HAD to pick a mid tier character to be your anchor, she’d do well.

Yamazaki would do it better :stuck_out_tongue:

I love maki, she has good normals, supers, anti airs and what not, but she seems to get trampled by blanka pretty bad.

but how does n help her if she is a turtler and talk more about deadly rave dizzy combo is her BnB totally safe if done right

She’s a pretty balanced character, when played right she can get pretty annoying and difficult to get in on. her BnB is not totally safe even if done right against certain characters with a lvl3 at their disposal. the deadly rave dizzy is the one where you pause for a moment during the deadly rave (i think it’s called root2), at the end you cancel for a s.rh xx qcb.fierce, qcf.fierce. giving her a knockdown to set-up for a mix which you almost never get playing Hibiki. IMO N-groove gives her pop trick options for supers when they find it difficult to get in to hitconfirm for a deadly rave.

I think I’m in need of a little advice. I use K-Groove, and I have short list of my favourite characters. Since the top tier thread has only a few top-k-groovers, I’m not 100% sure on how drastically some tiers may be affected (especially ones that switch from A to K).

Here’s my list – most favoured on top:

  1. Nakoruru (Ratio 1) but I feel like I always have to put her in my team, and she usually does great, plus in K-groove, the emphasis for me is not on Supers but taking full advantage of the rage pressure/dmg/defense)

  2. Joe - (Ratio 1 sometimes 2) Another mid-tier. He has some good match-ups with some of the top tiers.

  3. Blanka (Ratio 2 sometimes 1) - Nuff said. He’s top, but for that reason, most opponents know Blanka well enough for him to not completely dominate.

  4. Terry – I tend to do exceptionally well with Terry but he has his bad-days too. I wish his Tackle was a DP motion like in a lot of the KOF games. For whatever reason, he’s considered low/bottom tier though. Not sure why, because he’s been in a winning Evo team before, and like I said, I do well with him.

  5. Geese – Really like Geese. I don’t use his counters too often (I guess you probably shouldn’t unless your opponent is too easy). It’s funny, with me, I can only do his raising storm on the left with the hcbx2, df P, but on the RIGHT, I have to do it the correct way, db,hcb,df+P. Anywho, he’s basically top tier material - tend to focus on guard crushing, without the risky qcb+K.

  6. Sagat – I know he’s potentially a beast in K. He’s not as groove-dependant as some I guess. I’m way better with Blanka most of the time.

  7. Hibiki – She’s a solid character, but in K (unless I’m mistaken) I don’t think she’s R2 material. Not exactly sure what makes her so great for A.

  8. Guile - yeah

  9. Rugal – without his level 1s to spam 50% of the time, I haven’t found Rugal very effective in K, but I still like him.

Well those are the main faves I’ve come down to, after all these years, and I simply can’t decide on a team to focus on tourney-wise. I’d like to prep for tournies, since the competition is actually pretty good right now where I’m at.

Sagat isn’t potentially a beast in K, he’s already been tried, tested and proven to be one. Plus, Geese isn’t “basically” top tier material. He’s good yes, but near-top/high-mid at best. Simply put winning with Mr. Howard takes much more effort than winning with established top tiers.

Other than offering the proverbial “play who you want/who you can play well” (I don’t think you’d be asking your question if you did anyway) for advice I’d say pick among Sagat, Blanka, Geese and Hibiki. Something like Hibiki/Blanka/Sagat r2, and then put in Geese when you feel confident that he’ll do well against the opponent’s lineup.

Why Hibiki is great for A (A is her best groove, and tbh I think she’s one of the best characters in A) is something best answered by Havoc or Gunter, so I’ll leave that to them.

at some point i have played every character on ur list except for rugal…just cuz he feels weird

1-Nako is fun and she annoys ppl she’s useful in k and i think she does better against top tier than she does against mids…like the shotos number one rule here is abuse low jump and throw

2-i used to play this guy simply for the pits super…but thats when i had been playing for like a week or two…joe has good normals and block strings but i don’t think he has a favorable matchup in the top…unless its against cammy for some reason…cuz i know sagat and blanka both own him freely unless youre vdo

3-ummm fuck blanka…cheap ass back dashin’ little bitch…haha j/k k ryu owns him for free:wonder:

4-i think terry is rated low because he has to work hard to get in…most of his special moves are not safe…most can be countered with atleast one type of normal…powerwave?-small jump any attack, or hurricane kick…crack shoot…almost any decent normal beats out this move…and i’d suggest only using it in the 3 fierce block string…power dunk-can be countered by whatever…but i like terry he has his good points he’s got a really fast run for a character that deals a lot of damage…you can scrub his super out so easily off of a short good roundhouse…decent close range combos…the drunken wolf isn’t half bad

5-i know a lot of ppl would disagree…probably everyone will disagree but i think it would be better served for you to learn effective ways to combo deadly rave than to focus so much time on raging storm…simply because ppl know not to jump at you when youre raged…and they will probably run away from you…geese is fun i’d make him an r1 and just hope he doesn’t run into sagat…because he is sagats bitch…plain and simple he’s got no answer for the fierce unless you randomly counter which could leave you in a world of hurt…smart counters are good if you know the opponent and know which moves they can hit you with at a which distance…whiff jab counter is pretty effective so is f+hpxxcounter geese is all about pressure and guard crush

6-K sagat is the shit…but you better be careful when you run into c-sagat and rc pixies like sakura vega cammy the damage boost from k can defnitely help even out these matchups…one comboed super and youre lookin’ at some hurting bitches over there and then there’s blanka…some ppl say blanka has the advantage…i’d disagree usually because i don’t have problems with blanka…you just gotta pay attention to his jump…don’t start let him start crossing u doing that shock shit

7- Yes you are mistaken…go watch some otk videos…she’s great for r2 if you have the lead opponents have to respect your range and ability to slash them from damn near anywhere on the screen…i think you want to put them in the mindset of they are gonna have to come at u…then you get to abuse them with your st.hp if they low jump cr.hp i played her serious for awhile but just couldn’t lock down her supers in-game situations so i dropped her but she’s solid enough for r2…the only top that gives her trouble is cammy

8-CAPTAIN SMACK EM i love this guy in k groove especially vs sagats that f+hp drives sagat players nuts…cuz his is better and reaches farther that thaiger and usually its pretty safe…he’s got good supers…but of course being able to rc sonic booms and all that helps greatly…i don’t think he’s bad in k he recovers so quickly from normals that almost any retaliation is a free jd unless youre stupid and do cr.hk …the bad part about guile is his damage…why does this guy not hit harder?..that and his bnb’s need supers to really be damaging i really like him in k groove as a darkhorse character…you can catch ppl off
guard by selecting him…because most ppl don’t play guile in k or in anything other than c…but his rush down is pretty good…and fill the fucking screen with sonic booms…

9-short, short-god press super= one more for the good guys

i know its hard to do but you gotta narrow that list down to about 5 or 6 i got this advice from someone on this board and it helped me greatly…once you get those characters on lock then you can start branching out to those you like to play…hope this helped somewhat…
