1: have one quick damage dealer that can mixup and shit
2: have one problem sovler
3: have one overpowerd character ( i know this sounds weird.
Exemple of some of my choices… 1: Yun ( i know yall all hate him…but hes one of my best ) if you master him you can annoy alot of players, use him almost like in 3s. 2: Vega…put him up againts characters that causes probles such as cammy blanka and himself etc. 3: Rugal… i find him overpowerd if you know how to use him well and match im againts an oponent wich who he can deal with.
other exemples…1: iori. 2: vega/blanka 3: blanka
1: nakoruru 2: vega/blanka 3: sagat.
Wha, at this range you’d only want to powerwave meatied.
Ground fireballs suck but they’re still fireballs, just can’t use this one with the same effect like Sagat’s or Ryu’s.
Crack shoot’s only purpose is anti-air, and even then I’d recommend only the short or maybe the forward versions.
RC’d.
The move is punishable hit or blocked. You may be able to get away with it by tagging the opponent at the tip the way Cammy does with her drills, either sparingly or once in a match, but unless it’s RC’d then you can simply jab it the same way you can jab Blanka Balls.
It’s used as an a deep anti-air, also when RC’d, but there’s no real reason to use it in this manner, just keep it in combos off Buster Wolf for the added damage and stun.
Outside of that, it comes down to normals and whatever else he’s got at midrange that can be abused, and that’s where he suffers in the tierings.
His far s.lk is "OKAY!"
Sagat’s is better.
His far s.mk is annoyingly good, but were it only possible to cancel to super it’d be better. Maki has him beat there, the top tiers have both of them beat there period.
His sweep is annoying, his low jumps are good.
That’s it.
Outside of sweep, which is punishable if all you do is sweep, he’s got his low jumps to try to work the guard meter to get in or his shorts and forward to annoy and tick away and bid his time to reset and try something else.
Unless he gets in with say a “random” run up and sweep with the tip of his foot, or a “random” low jump that doesn’t knock the opponent too far, or the opponent doesn’t give the match to Terry by playing the Lone Wolf’s game, attrition will kill him in the end.
Let’s say that’s the trade off with playing for style points.
For as much as I like to see alot of “different” teams, I think regionally speaking at least, that CVS2’s tier rankings and capability of certain characters is cemented, and has been for a while. It’s not to say that you can’t use mids or even low-mids, you just have to know the matchups I guess. I just got back from NEC, and despite not having alot of comp to prepare with prior, I still feel like the only way to really balance a good team would that you offer up your Battery spot for possibly a mid tier character and your User and Anchors be someone of higher tier level.
Granted, there are exceptions (Iyo, Buktooth, etc) I just think that having 2 stronger characters in the back is a good way to at least on paper ensure that you have a strong team. This still involves learning them well enough to be usable, but I just think it’s a good way to go about playing the game. I play A-Kyo, Rolento, Eagle (2) (at least that’s what I played at NEC), but I’m going to switch to either A- Kyo Sak Bison (2) or A-Vega Sak Bison (2) if I continue to keep playing CVS2…does anyone know if it’s been removed from the Evo tournament list?
Ovbiously having 2 stronger / top tier chars in the back is going to ensure you have a stronger team but I mean some people play top tiers just because they’re top tier chars and I honestly hate that. Play who is fun to you. Ive had people admit to me that they only play vega / sagat / blanka / top tier char because they are top tier and that they really dont like playing them. fuck that play who you like, not where there based on the tier list
Gunter talked about that not too long ago (I think it was in a A-groove thread?). One of his suggestions was having one “oddball” character plus 2 top tiers. He used his A-Zangief, Blanka, Bison team as an example. Obviously you need to know your characters inside and out otherwise the oddball character gets raped for free.
I don’t see any problem with people using a certain character just because s/he is top tier, but I think people also should worry about whether or not those characters fit their playstyle.
When I first started playing CvS2 I started out with the 3 characters that looked the coolest to me: Akuma, Nakoruru, Dhalsim.
After I learned as much as I could with them I was still losing to people at the arcade (Almost everyone plays ALL tops there.) So I switched out Akuma with Sagat and switched the order so he was rank 2.
I won a ton more matches over time and got a lot better. After a while I felt secure enough to take Sagat out and switch someone else back in, I tried out every character and I found Kyo to be the coolest and now he’s my best character… My point is that you should learn the characters you really like and play the best you can at them before you just throw in Vega, Blanka, Sagat. If you’re struggling with your favorite characters, throw in a top tier and see what happens. If it works stay with that team 'till your comfortable and try to switch back later on. If you’re still having trouble add another one and so on…
I use to hate playing Sagat cause he seemed too easy to learn, but after my long ordeals with gridman and weaksauce, I found there was more then just c.fierce, c.fierce all day. Now I like playing him, but not enough to designate him as my ratio 2.
if all people care about is winning by playing top tiers, they’re just losing cause you’ll see at times where they say to themselves “why would you do that against (some top tier char)” because they just got stuffed or don’t know why or how you did it when they did “blah blah” cause they know s/he is top tier. people who play who they like (after trying out all) and learn the difficult match ups and can show it are the real winners in my book.
When I started CVS2 I also picked characters that I liked ie. Kyo, Joe, Ryu. I really disliked the top tiers and honestly the only one I tried playing later on was Sagat. I think learning to play with my characters made me a better player overall. I didn’t just rely on top tiers and now I’m trying a few and can do really well with them since they have a larger advantage. I don’t like chargers but I like RC’ng blancas electricity.
There’s nothing wrong with playing top tier characters regardless of whether you “like” them or not. I don’t see why this negative stigma is necessary.
Using characters you like is great too if you can make it work.
I said that’s how I STARTED, now I pick 'em and learn them in addition to the players I like. Although, I still don’t pick the top tier that I don’t like out of them. For examp. I know Sagat and Blanca are top but more times than not I’ll choose Sagat eventhough, Blanca seems to have a slight edge over him.
I just like how Sagat has a few more combos. Blanka is insane with zoning but I don’t really like chargers. I tried him and I can probably do about the same since my friend always played Blanka and that’s where I got most of my zoning game. I just made it better with RC electricity. My team ATM is
Joe, Hibiki, and Sagat
Joe’s RC is pretty safe from what I’ve experienced and he can baku-cancel which makes it even safer.
im not critisizing here…but i would your team has no problem character stoper. you have no good match for a cammy/ vega / blanka good player.
thats why i always have Vega in my team nomater what. maybe im wrong but thats just hpw i see it…cos all 3 of them characters wont do well againts them i think.unless your really really better then the other guy.
