Cvs2 team formation: discussion/suggestions, etc

Replace her with Ken…or the other two…they’re all better than Morrigan in C. If you’re confident enough with Chun to use her as your anchor, stick with C-groove. Cammy and Chun are good in C…and your other 3 options would work well.

C-Sagat is “pretty good” = P… But yeah, Ken is better in C than Morrigan… Morrigan isn’t that great in C, but she is usable-> she can zone pretty well … Chun Li is best in 2nd or anchor position b/c she needs meter to be the most effective so where you have her is just fine.

Okay, I’m thinking of replacing Morrigan with Mai, then. I’m actually quite good with Mai (I consider her my 2nd best character), but I didn’t think she was too effective in competitive play.

Mai is pretty good in C … if she’s your 2nd best it’s worth sticking with her. Cammy is not bad in C either, but if you have Cammy, Mai, Chun then it’s a low total HP count, but if you’re good with those characters it won’t matter.

i say use mai morrigan chun in n-groove. it’s the best groove for all 3 of those characters

as an alternative, mai/(chun or morrigan)/cammy in k-groove

Buktooth always said he wished he could play morrigan in C groove for her level 2 cancels and offensive airblocking. I recommend A groove.

I’ve definitely tried A-groove, but I just couldn’t get the Custom Combo’s to work for me. I never was good with them in the Alpha series, and that trend just seems to continue for CvS2.
It’s alright, though; I’m not terribly effective with Morrigan (I think I’m better with Chun, Mai, and Cammy)… so I’ll either stick with them in C-groove, or I’ll consider replacing Mai with Ken, just to raise my HP count ('cause that was a good point). I’ve just practiced so long with C-groove that it seems like that’s the best fit for me.

Thanks so much for all your help!

Switch to N, put Cammy in last as ratio 2.

I use N - Mai, Chun, R2 Cammy as my secondary team. It’s a decent team for casuals but for competitive play you’d better off picking somebody else.

Keep Mai.

She’s hella under-rated.

Okay… here are the teams I’m considering (judging by your guys’ input):

  1. C-groove Mai, Cammy, R2 Chun-Li
  2. C-groove Ken, Chun-Li, R2 Cammy
  3. N-groove Morrigan, Cammy, R2 Chun-Li
  4. K-groove Cammy, Chun-Li, R2 Ken

My best characters in order are: Chun-Li, Mai, Cammy, Morrigan, Ken. So… which of the 4 choices would suit me best for competitive play? I really really appreciate all of your guys’ advice; it’s helping me a lot.

2, 1, 3, 4.

That’s debatable though.

:open_mouth:

it all depends on your play style. try playing the characters and the grooves and see what you think instead of asking people who have never seen you play or know your skill level to tell you what’s good. try it out, figure out what works best for you, and run with it.

2 would be my choice. For 1, 3 & 4 I’d rather put Cammy in last as ratio 2 because I think she’s got a better comeback potential than Chun or Ken (far s.HK xx lvl 3 super FTW). I think Mai is better in N or K than in C.

However, I suggest you try all 4 combinations, try different team orders, etc, and see what feels more confortable to you.

Team choi: C-guile ken sagat

What are the advantages to starting Ken instead of Guile? Since Guile can zone and fight well without meter, compared to Ken’s usage of lvl2 cancels, I thought he’s better as a battery. Does Ken shine during some of Guile’s bad matchups?

DarknessIllusion, hehe everyone is in a helping mood =)

Based on your own replies, you are leaning towards keeping C-Groove (I know the feeling) If you insist on C, Mai-Cammy/Chun is your best setup, with Morrigan used only for casual play. That’s your comfort-zone, right?

However, Buk gave the best advice (no surprise there^^) that N-Groove unlocks the full potential of all your guys ('cept Cammy but that’s OK). I’d say try hard to master those 4 chars in N (N is much more acitve), but you if you hit wall like you have now, c’est la vie*

  • c’est la vie means “switch to C-vega/blanka/sagat” in french =D

EDIT: ah, check out Buk’s Morrigan guide on gaemfaqs if you haven’t already.

when you guys build a team do you take a characters defense into account? what i mean by that is will you not play a character because they have sucky defense. i personally don’t but i’m curious if the rest of you do.

Fuck that. I play characters because I feel like playing / learning them. If a character has sucky defense, find something they can do to overcome it. This game is balanced enough where you can make almost any match 50/50 or better by learning your characters and their matchups.

I play because the character is cool. If I was good I’d run N-Akuma, Mai, Hibiki, reguardless of their little girl defense.
