Cvs2 team formation: discussion/suggestions, etc

GG…

Can someone tell me what groove to put this team in, and why? Iori, Rock, Kyo…and if I should trade someone in too, plz tell me and explain (i’m a total noob:sweat: , this is like my first fighting game:confused: )…

if you’re just starting i’d say keep the team. the main thing is to have fun (and play against people), and get better with whatever characters you like. I’d say either K or N groove.

ok, cool. Thanks.

Yeah, play for enjoyment, that’s what I learned, and I’m using Yuri and the like pretty good now, I can now take down (or almost take down) alot of good A Sak Bison Blanka players. It’s hard, but it’s worth it, they got messed by low tier!

Yeah, N or K, I like Iori on N, Kyo and Rock on K, dunno, whatever you choose.

kyo works well if you have low jump.
his damaging links are easily mixed up with low jump
and can set up good damage.
also you will need to be close and you will usually be the one trying to get close.
playing him with groove defence works well.

Opinions on K-Balrog/Guile/Geese(R2)? Strengths and weaknesses? Thanks.

Ehhh… Balrog as in boxer right?
His weakness… I don’t know, but I just personally think he sucks. , Well, I guess for Guile in general, check out www.sonichurricane.com (or was it .net?) Really nice info for him.

Geese. Is REAL good in K, but you have to work your JD’s and time your counter moves. The fear of his meter bursting and having his kick throw like a free lvl 1 super is a threat alone. and having you be able to time a RS and hit on someone is fear also that shit hurts ALOT. He takes alot of time (for me) to get good at, but once you get him he is a monster, I whip out R4 Geese sometimes when I’m angry. Other then that look around this thread, I had some convo of Geese in teams around here somewhere I think…

I don’t know, I’d take out Balrog for someone else personally, but if you want to play him because you think he’s funthen it’s your choice, your gunna have to fight for your wins with him.

K-Rog is ass. But…he’s still viable…well, maybe not like tourney viable, but everyone’s playable in K. Throw a lot…and stand fierce a lot. Duck fierce, stand strong, headbutt, dash punch with kick for anti-air…sweep is pretty good, and you can juggle megaton punch after a low rh (fuck you Campbell, I swear that’s the real name for that move). Low jump early rh is like an overhead…just option select jd / low jab / tech throw (in that order) when you land 'cause you can’t do anything else. Any of his supers hit off of low jabs…and they’re instant lvl 3s, so just make sure they come out any time after you hit the jab and they should hit. Mash on punches if you do the punch super, though…I’ve never found any use for hitting kicks during that super except for whiffing on short characters and getting punished.

But yeah, all that said…K-Rog is garbage. Fun for a minute…and then you get tired of losing…or at least having to struggle during every match.

Okay, atleast I wasn’t wrong about Balrog sucking. Wait, everyone can be used in K? I mean even Dan? Oh shioot Time for K-Kyosuke, King, Danr2!

Oh and didn’t people used to play A-rog along time ago?

I’m glad you mentioned this, because I’ve been thinking about something for a while.

Kyo is more or less my best character, and I was used to just putting him as the r2 anchor. A while back I opted to just put him in front, and its been mixed results. More often then not I’ll do quite a bit of damage, but there have been a few times where I haven’t been able to hold the lead. I remember Kyo taking out two characters only to have C-Sagat wipe out the remaining team without much trouble.

So should I go back to having him as a R2, or try to have a character who isn’t my best close out?

I have been checking sonichurricane since some time ago, and it has helped to improve my Guile a lot (must send Majsestros a mail thanking him), though I still need a lot of practice, because my execution with Guile keeps being just average, I still miss a lot of smal combos and must rely on c.forward to land Sonic Hurricane (Still can’t do c.jab,c.jab,c.jab/c.short xx Sonic Hurricante) fast enough yet.

I use almost exclusively (if not exclusively) the Gigaton Blow super; I have found that it’s just plain better than Crazy Buffalo in every aspect (speed, strength (connecting at least 7 of its 9 hits already does a lot of damage, and don’t mention when it hits fully), range, priority, how much ground you caover with your invincible frames, etc.), but as mentioned above, I still lack the execution skills to link it from a c.jab. I have found that he has nice matchups against large characters (Sagat, Yamazaki). On shotos, strangely, he beats easily Ken and Akuma, but I find Ryu strangely harder to beat. Worst matchups are easily quick characters (Vega is the best example, with his range and speed), and those matchups can only be won on quick reflexes. The thing I like about K-Balrog is that in any match that he might be about to be overwhelmingly defeated, that gives around 2 chances to land Gigaton Blow. People who have been on the recieving end of this tend to play on the defensive more than the usual when a character is raged, which obviously helps recovering, and if he keeps playing offensive, it’s 100% guaranteed that he will recieve a CH Gigaton Blow, which easily drains a huge chunk of the life bar (around 75%, more or less depending on other factors) and almost always hits (The opponent must be at at least 3-3.5 bodies of distance and already blocking when the super freeze happens, or he gets the full blow).

I’ll not say much about Geese, as everything has been already side in others parts of the forum. I’ll just say that I can pull out Raging Storm with high chance of success (9/10) during battle, and it always hits in CH and deals A LOT of damage, but I still need to have a lower reaction time for quick jumpers (Vega) and low, normal jumpers (Yamazaki). Nuff’ said.

Well, thanks for the replies! I’m hoping to get more feedback about this. Later!

on the r2 kyo vs r2 geese subject, i really think kyo is a better r2, maybe because i like uppercuts. but Geese has worse matchups imo. or maybe i just suck =\

Haha. You said it, not the rest of us.

Oh, and I called James a fag…and then he hopped in the shower…shit was weird.

…and yeah, I’ve tried to use everyone in K at some point or another. My Kyosuke is decent…King and Dan, not so much…but my point being that K-groove in general makes every character better, because it provides the same groove specific benefits. JD gets you out of everything, life gain from JD is the only way to gain life aside from Nak’s super, getting hit like 5 times gives you full meter…which leads to extra damage normals, and the second hardest hitting lvl 3s in the game…and then toss in run and low jump so you can actually attack.

By the way, hitting Kyosuke’s Rival Schools super in-game is one of the best feelings ever. Imagine how that would feel in a major tournament…

Only if Dan had his Otoko Michi…

Oh and one more thing. Cammy eats Rog for dinner. Watch Snakes on a Plane.

Absolutely confirmed… I have played that matchup like 100 times.

Really? I like that matchup…maybe there aren’t any good Cammy players around here…

honestly depends on the anchor you are playing against.

Well, yeah I guess if Balrogs are ripping Cammys. I mean he comes near, Throw. I think she can even catch Rog in his dash punches…
If I go to Evo2k and I actually practice and enter in CvS2 this year, I’ll have a money match, a Balrog vs Cammy. That all means if I have money. Haha.

Oh and using Kyosuke in a major tournament… I personally lol’d

Oh and Legendary Gokou, where’d you get your icon, I need to get/make one for Yuri… I OCV with Yuri!!!

p.s. Does anyone really use S? Other then my super-great S-Ryo R4.

I don’t like playing money matches, but I would gladly play against you in some sparring matches of Cammy vs. Balrog (AKA Mr. Tyson, as I like to call him). Alas, there is no way at all that I could go at Evo (Unless I won the lottery to pay the flight AND got a tourist visa to enter the USA in less than 2 months =P).

Why not? Even being low tier, any character can be sharpened to win his matches (providing, of course, that the player controlling him has a lot of knowledge about the character, including properties and matchups, and is highly skilled).
