CvS2: P-Groove Thread

yay. uhm, WHICH 5-6 P-groove characters are actually good?

blanka
sagat?
cammy

kyo?
rolento?
hibiki?

uhm, yeah…

cammy blanka sagat kyo vega rolento. I always wished that Hibiki was good in P groove. The Japanese gave me a heads up that she has really good defense but her offense is lacking so she isn’t really considered TOP tier in P groove. They said she isn’t really good or bad. I personally think that she has some uses in P, maybe…

i really like sakura in p groove… for two reasons…

1: parry, c.lk is just too easy/broken…
2: p groove is hard to get meter, and sakura is good at getting meter…

her supers somewhat suck… theyre decent… but id rather have my cammy do her super… but ow well… with her dp shes a maniac =)

Vega was the last of the 6 characters i listed a while ago. I personally think hibiki would be pretty scary in p. Especially as a user. John B played her a long time ago and she was pretty annoying. If i ever was gonna make a p groove User faq she woulda been in there.

Speaking of faqs the battery guide i was gonna write is not gonna happen. It’s too much trouble to list hella characters, their pros/cons, tricks, and objectives. So what i’ll do is make a much smaller list which will consist of the known characters and who i consider the potentially dangerous unknown characters in p. I’ll go in depth with these few and prolly give buktooth style rating for them (b0/u0/a0).

Hibiki lack of offense? I guess I can see what you mean, but she has excellent defense/zoning, which more than makes up for it. I should’ve used her at TS4, might’ve had more favorable results. Here’s what I think is the best team :

P Sak/xxx/Cammy

Dangerous team … I haven’t really looked into someone who would be a good user (Since meter builds pretty slow in P groove, I think it shouldn’t be called user because of that). I guess a good user could be

Hibiki
Kyo
Sagat

I still like:

Blanka
Sagat
Cammy

thats just me though.

I don’t really think Blanka benefits too much in P groove. I think there are a few who would disagree, but I don’t believe he’s that much of a threat without RC. Sagat loses the mobility (I think S4v already talked about that).

if blanka has small jumps…it’s just as good as rc

–his fierces are like the strongest in the game so parry-fp is very benificial
–he can avoid gaurd break cc’s
-plus p-groove needs longe range+high priority

Yea i did say that blanka didnt benefit much from the parry. But at the time i was thinking in terms of big damage per opening and totally disregarding things like ground control. With parries blankas ground control becomes even more annoying than it already is with somethin as simple as parry > fierce. Shit just doing parry into low hk will get you free set ups. Add those low jumps and constant threat of a level 3 if he parries your jump in, or does and empty low jump combo, and you have one scary character. And when players get advanced enough to do back > forward supers off of the low parries it’ll get really interesting.

This whole thing of judging characters based on the what damage they can do per parry or opening was a big mistake. I dropped vega cuz i felt he didnt do enough damage per opening. Completely disregarding the fact that i control the ground in 90% of the matches i have. Bad idea

P kyo is a beast…

Got a few questions…
How do you do option select with Kyo and his bnb? Like, how do you incorporate the two?
How do you time the parry when blanka does electricity over you? (When you’re down)

uhh dont even try to parry the elec.If you are only an wakeup, parry once then any invinceble attack, same in the air go for one parry then attack

why not?

because its actually random and unsafe to try and parry multiple hits of rc elec. You parry once if you gonna parry at all - then uppercut. Really if you have an uppercut character (cammy!) Just delay your get up and dp that shit. The plus to this besides beating it clean without strict parry timing involved, is being able to tell what side they land on when they hop at you after a knock down.

Thats actually what I meant, I wanted to know the timing for parrying the first hit, then I would proceed to do a super or throw

Common Parry Bait

Hm, here’s some stuff I made note of last night when I got beasted on by S4v at SVGL last night.

  • After blocking Blanka electricity, parry low cuz it’s usually a C.HK.
  • After a tech-throw, parry forward if your opponent likes sticking out high priority pokes after a tech (like me  ).
  • Parry high on S.HKs from Yamazaki/Geese if they like sticking those out a LOT.

I know there’s more that I saw consistently, but I just can’t remember it right now.

Common Parry Bait

This is true. If its not cr hk its probably cr mk. I think I parried his cr fierce low as well. Can it be parried low? I’m not talking about the slide either.

I haven’t played cvs2 @ tilt in ahwhile. Have the people who play there gotten better?

peace

After rc elec its usually c.hk or c.hp. They both can be parried low but the c.hp can be parried high also.

yeah, you might as well go for a low parry, since thats just about the only thing that can hit you at that range. Since they can actually link into c. hk from the elect. then you might as well imput a parry then go to block. If you got it then punish.
