CvS2: Match Analysis V 2.0

Buk told me to make this thread because he said he was going to replace the old one and so that the new info will benefit everyone.

Anyway…

Some matchups that are giving me problems.

A - Sakura and A Blanka
vs.
A - Bison

I know i’m suppose to watch out for the CC setups, the cr. forward keep away and one hit scissors.
I know i’m suppose to stay in distance so that the scissor kick will be a 2 hit scissor.
I have a problem once the Bison has no meter and is running away jumping RH to build meter.


A - Cammy
vs.
C - Vega

Basically, I get zoned out and I have a hard time with a runaway Vega.
When I get him stuck in the corner, I get pushed back with slides and cr. strong.
When I try to do a hooligan grab setup I get hit with jump back strong, RH, or fierce.

Here’s my biggest match problem:

Ken vs sagat. My hardest part is staying in. the main weapon i use to stay close is to use RC funky kick as a psuedo dodge. C.mp, s.lk are my other tools against sagats s.lk and his s.mk. walking jabs help stuff his s.mk when i’m up close but more often than not i usually get hit with a s.fierce to the face or i get a knock down try to apply pressure but get reversaled by a super or uppercut. I really wanna improve on this matchup, for now i’ve been having either Kim or chun go up against sagat, because they have a “better” footsie game, and can REALLY punish him when he makes a mistake. Every other matchup with ken i’m fine with, (ex: ken vs sak, ken vs blanka, ken vs bison etc.),except this one. What do some of you do to stay in close.

What groove do you play Ken in C/A/N…?

most of the time it’s c-ken.

I absolutely LOVE playing Ken in K now. I was a huge fan of Ken in C, but K is just too powerful.

Cross Bison up, he has no real anti crossup besides custom, so feel free to cross him up when you’re Blanka. If he starts running awayw with j.rh, with Sak sj.mp seems like it would work well. Blanka? Try doing an RC Jab ball to get closer to him and eventually corner him. Hop Back with Blanka if those scissors are pissing you off, and c.fp him.

c-ken vs a-sakura help… i am ken
c-ken vs RC honda help… how can i land a cr LK if knocking him down… you can’t pressure him.

what i dont get is how is ken that good he has so many bad matchups

He can beat on the middle tier pretty badly. plus he’s good against chun, blanka, sak, cammy.

-s.lk owns chun, so he can get in on her easy. s.mk, prevents here from jumping in. she shouldn’t be able to crossup ken if he isn’t knocked down. c.mk if she decides to whore s.mp

-Blanka is fat. So if you get a knock down on him, it’s a guessing game to wether or not you’ll cross him up or not, and it’s in your favor.

-sak, c.mp kills her dive kicks, s.lk allow you to get in, and s.roundhouse for long range poking. Being confident in your ground game helps in this matchup

-cammy, c.strong and s.lk are your main weapons. Use of psychic dp’s help. C.strong also stops cammy’s air dive.

But ummm yeah, sagat is a hard match up. I just can’t stay inside. when i do i usually get pushed back out, i’m sure someone has some insight. Buk? or do i have to change my name to something else to get some advice?

I’m serious when i say this, go crazy. If he’s mid screen charging, do sj.hurricanes over him. just make sure u do it so your safe. If he’s full screen away, that’s good you stay on your side building meter, let him turtle. The moment he tries to jump, throw a fireball to make him air block, then try to move in. When you get in close, honda is gonna expect you to cross him up, so he’ll do a s.fierce to AA you, anticipate it and punish with a RC funky kick or c.fiercexxxfb instead. worst case scenario is that he doesn’t do the s.fierce and he blocks it, you’ll be safe anyways. just be patient, especially if you have the lead. If he does a d,u+k you can retaliate with a c.lkxxxsuper, that might be your only opening so capitalize on it.

im sorry but ken loses to cammy and sak

Everyone does. But, for me fighting cammy and sak with ken is a hell of a lot easier than fighting sagat.

hi…i havent posted on SRK in a really really long time, but i am trying to get back into cvs2 now.

couple of match ups im having trouble with is

N/P-Ryu vs C/N/K- sagat

N/P-Ryu vs C/N/K- blanka

N/P-Ryu vs C/N/K- Cammy

i especially have problems in footsies and breaking down the turtles. because of turtling ive resorted to P groove mostly and also because i play 3s more often. any tips would be appreciated.

First off, you need to test out if your opponent can RC Blanka Ball, throw out 2 Hadukens to make sure of this.
Stay out of range of the cr. fierce and dash/Roll in when they whiff it.

RC fireball through her pokes or stay out of range and dash in after.
Basically just stay out of range and learn when to move in so you don’t get completly zoned out.

oki i just started playing a - rolento like last week, so today i’m playing and i got owned by sagat, so i guess i really need to know how to play a - rolento vs. any groove sagat. Any pointers?

here is a matchup i have NEVER understood. i remember buktooth posted that C-rolento beats C-guile, and i have no idea why.

can guile not AA rolento’s jumping mp outside of RC sonic boom? does standing jab shut him down? i don’t get it, any ideas?

I think C rolento vs C guile is just a matter of mobility. Rolento can get all over Guile after he throws a sonic boom, and ontop of that Guile having to chase Rolento around = no charge for Guile. C rolento has a dirty AC, which completely disrupts guile poke strings, and by the time Guile gets close to Rolento again his Guard bar has fully healed and he has built the meter back for another AC. Air to Air rolento eats him (sometimes Guile can get away with an ultra early jumping straight up MEdium kick or Heavy, which is rare), as well as rolento can AA him relatively easy. Trip wire is also another factor, which slows down guile. :karate:
