CvS2: Dr.B- Elite Yamazaki Strats & post yours too!

LOL! exactly…

Yeah, I usually RC the (MK) Flight of Tempering or the (HK) Sand Scattering as a meaty attack. Buffer the Sand into Serpent slash. (for the n-teenth time it has been said:D ) Works really well when mixing up the close s.HP (headbutt) <–(this move has good priority. I use it much like cammy uses her HP as a meaty.) into the (HP) Knife Slash or the Dust combo. With such good range on the c.HK, there will be plenty of opportunities to play wake up games.

I still need a little more practice getting it 100%, but I’m getting there <he he>

the focus of this thread should be towards his character match ups cause he has a lot of bad ones dr b got anything on zaki vs vega?

Yeah, it seems like he has a lot of problems against jumpy/quick characters like Rolento, Vega, Bison, Chun-li, Blanka, and Cammy. I know you can use the counter against Cammy’s Spiral Arrow and s.HK can punish blocked Blanka balls, yet it almost seems as if Vega and Rolento can jump in for free and cross-up all day if you don’t have a level 2 or 3 ready. Chun-li and Bison seem to pressure him into the ground if you lose your momentum or they evade zoning or rush (and counter attacking/movement can only go so far). Outside of K-groove and P-groove, what can you do about these characters? I can roll cancel pretty well, so any strats on that will help.

I try to not match him up with those chars…

Yama may come across the jumpy chars But you have to find ways to adujst to their jumpyness…It’s not too hard…For some yeah subbing out Yama is the best idea…for others it’s better to work with him still…For chars like Vega,Cun,Bison,Rolento…fighting in the air isnt the best of ideas due to their priority over Yama:( …so Keeping a solid poking game on the ground is the best way…I cant say it enough when you have a meter that can be built threw doing normals and moves kick the dirt as much as possible when they are away…That will at least give you a better chance at doing a super when they get jumpy again…KEEP THAT sharp zone for serpeant slashes but dont over do them…They can sneak through easy…sometimes…Use the knife after HP in close for chip and stay crazy…it’s the best way…

Yamazaki vs. Vega is hyper shitty, but like DrB said you can alleviate his air superiority by focusing on a ground game. Mostly, keep out of range of his c.strong and try to bait it out so you can kick Vega in the arm. A nice poking chain for when you get close (as long as you’re fast) is c.jab x2, s.forward, RC dust kick. Buffer a slash so if Vega tries to stick something out, he gets hit. Take it easy with the s.roundhouse, and if you have a level 3 available, do empty double quarter circles after poking chains so you’re ready to guillotine Vega on reaction if he jumps.

Ground game Yama is what it is all about…When he gets on a roll it starts to get crazy…For people with small jump this doesnt happen often but works real well…sj+HP into Lvel 3 or 2 anti air super…This does hella damage and looks cool on top of that…Keep posting everyone…If we keep sharing new ideas our Yama’s will be extra deadly…

sj. FP Dr. B? why not RK of FK?

lemme get this straight. yama can meet an opponent in the air, hit them with fierce, land, then do his antiair super and it’ll connect?

No, it’s in close small jump HP into level 2 or 3…I think it works for level 1’s too but it has to be real deep hit…

-B.

Note it may be harder to land on shorter characters…for mid or big chars it lands alot more…

Ratio 4 Hibiki?! I never seen someone use a ratio 4 character in any tourneys vids.

Am I the only person who uses slashes for anti air?
I swear using jab slash is like having a DP for the jumpy chars.

Jab slash is decent anti-crossup, but its priority is bad (I’ve straight out lost to shit before) and it’s slow so I wouldn’t really use it for too much else if c.fierce or s.strong will work just as well.

Jab serpeant should really be used the least…If you see a jump use medium serpeant slah at a distance…One it does more damage…and second gives you space to setup other stuff you want to get…and the other bad thing about it is if you whiff that could be your ass…On another note…if you land it all the time more power to you…Just mix it up…thats the main idea…

-B.

Yeah mainly I use it as anti cross up, so it shouldnt get beat cause no move is comming out yet.
I think its usefull as an anti air, yet no one has said anything about it.

I love HP knife slash. I cornered someone using c.mk HP knife slash. And nothing else.
Kept hitting em up with block strings until they tried to roll or jump…
which they got thrown back to the corner, or Guillotined.

I think the key to Yama isnt rush down or turtle, but constant pressure.
To always be doing something.
Then you out react them.
Their reactions are what get them killed, cause your reaction is better.

I love it when peoples first reaction is jumping.

I think jab Slashes are amazing for crazy ass mindgame. For example, you do a jab slash and hold it at mid range. Keep all your fingers on all 3 punches, and then the opponent doesn’t know whether he should roll (cause then he gets hit by slash if its strong or fierce version), jump (he doesn’t know if its jab). It’s pretty good. My friend does this sometimes and i’ve been tricked by it a few times. When he knows I will not jump, he will start doing some strong ones and release them quickly.

i think JP slashes are more for the defensive Yama that waits back and lets the opponent make all the mistakes… i’m a more on top of u type Yama… getting in the corner is not advised against me… especially with my whacky ass customs! ~_^

Dude! Dr. B, that was some pretty sweet Yama on the Evo2k2 DVD. I have a few questions if you don’t mind. When you were fighting Blanka, you jumped away with j.HK. What made you choose that attack rather than j.HP or j.MK? Also, some of my friends saw some of the roll->super’s you did and said that is kinda lame. I argued that since you were building meter like a madman, that it is alright to take risks on high priority supers like those level 2’s. What was your strategy in this situation so that I can say that I was right? Oh! One last thing…I think that I only saw you dash once or twice in those matches. (I know that Yama’s forward dash isn’t very fast and doesn’t cover that much space) You mostly super jumped or rolled for fast mobility. I really like that, but I tend to get thrown or AA. I suppose I’m doing something wrong. Maybe I should be a little more crazy and unpredictable. <he he> Besides that, do you have any strats or comments on those matches?
