CvS2: Dr.B- Elite Yamazaki Strats & post yours too!

Well you can’t “stop” them, they’re top tier (if played right I guess, no one here is any good with them but me)… if u can anticipate the pokes you can counter… and I’m not sure but I think that the 1st hit of the cannon drill can also be countered. KNOW he’s gonna c.Fierce you every other second, and you KNOW that Chun is gonna s.Strong,c.Strong (and Cammys gonna s.Roundhouse) and If in K-Groove… well… just turtle like mad :smiley:
I love to turtle with k yama… JD till almost a meter, then jump in JD the anti air, then super… feels like you earned it then… just not as good as an air JD to SPD w/Gief … sorry I ramble

against cammy u CAN counter the first hit… but the counterattack will whiff… if u have meter u can cancel it into: 1. command grab (well not really cancel) 2. The Drill 3. Giullotine

o and if ur playing top level players… K Yama can have a hard time, because any good player will just runaway once he’s in rage… good thing that Yama can guard break rather quickly(lots of c. JPx2, s. FP, FP serpent slash, s. RK)… and he has the Drill to catch off guard when ur “rushing” them down… run, super is the way to go if u can’t “Roll Super” lol.

my K-yama has a bit of a hard time against claw vega. he wins in the air and i can’t use c.fierce against him consistently as antiair. would a low jump fierce beat claw vega if vega is in normal jump? i’m wondering if yama can use low jump fierce to beat regular jumpers in the air who normally have strong air games.

Yah Vega does have a big air advantage against K Yama… mostly becuase u can’t roll. if u can predict a Vega jump in then a counter will get him thinking twice… JD, c. JP, sk Dust, FP Serpent slash also works… but i think a well timed/placed c. FP/s. SP will stuff out Vega’s jump ins… if not… low jump FP doesn’t sound like a bad idea:D

Happy New Year everyone else. and u gotta come down and visit Fresno some time Doc… some real good local players that no one’s ever heard of… mostly because they don’t like tourneys…

i dont usually post advice too much cause im lazy but i will this time some top ec players tell me i have the best yamazaki so i can help out people cause im pretty much experienced in all matches

ill start with some tricks after the standing rh i do counter when im using the counter i use it as if its a dp a lot of people fall for it for anti airs there is down fierce which stops crossups (yes it will stop chun all the time there is jump fierce which will stop anything and standing mp.

yama has a lot of hard matchups theres rolento blanka sagat vega cammy and balrog ill give my insight on these

1st with sagat in this match you should be the one playing offense because yama can not turtle sagat very well youll prolly end up getting gced try to be aggresive mix up your attacks so you wont have to worry about his priority so much the best thing you could do in this match is knock sagat down because you can either

1 hit him with a poke string
2 command grab him on wake up
3 or just block in case he dp’s you

the main thing you should watch out for is standing fierce it will outprioritize everything you have the thing you should use most is your sweep

2 against blanka this is a really hard match cause of blanka’s slide
in case no one knew standing medium kick beats blanka slide clean

Any Yama combo vids out there? Havent seen one yet, and BTW. How do you select the 2 other colors in CvS2 for PS2? I tried pressing L1 (3x Punch) and L2 (3x Kick) but nothing happens. Thanks

Sup Laostyle and everyone else…I was just stopping by to post a few Yama tactics I have been playing with…

1.A good in close wake up combo is Standing Lp,Lk,Kick dirt,Serpeant Slash…This is real nice for peeps with a roll or are real close on the wake up…

2.Crouching Lp.Lp.Standing HP into HP knife…Alot of pain and a good mix up from just jabs into kick dirt combo…

3.jUMPING Hp…This move is underated but can be used real wisely especially with small jump…

Those are just a few things to add to your strats try them out and tell me how they worked…And always kick that dirt!!!

best weapon that yama has against sagat/blanka is Just Defend:D

eIther JD,Parry, or dodge that shit!!! I know alot of people are playing N and K yama…I would highly suggest choosing S yama…cause his dodge attacks own muthafuckas up and when you get to desperation you can have a field day with the lvl 1’s up close…and if anyone jumps they get fucked up…Not to mention charge fake serpeant slashes…and charge,dodge attacks…It really adds to his game…

I gotta try out S-Yama, haven’t tried it because the lvl 1 supers are so weak. But dodge seems pretty useful. :slight_smile:

sorry i didnt finish my posts but ill type some more against blanka the best thing do is stay within serpsent slash range so he cant hit with you slide and if he walks forward you can hit him with standing rh

against cammy sweep a lot and watch for sp arrow use cr b’s counter trick against sp arrow and low jab beats that too try not to let cammy get close cause theres really no response you have to her fiereces

against vega the best thing to do is score a knock down if you cant do that vega will dominate you this match is all vega unless you can get it in if you get in short jump tick throw or try to gc him make sure he cant breathe the best things to do against his jumps are jump up fierce punch or stand mp

been playing around with A Yama… only found one real decent combo…

(corner) Activate, s.FP (close)x2, s. FP (far), c. RK, S. RKx3, c. FP, c. SK (whiff), [sj. FPxN]x2, Guillotine. Damage = lil over 7K

S-Yama can be everything you need and want…He caN BE super Turtle…rush down…or run away…Some basic strats for S-Yama can be applied to all yamas…

First keep a solid anti air…either standing HK…ducking HP…standing MP…or serpeant slash…S yama has a nice advantage too…his dodge…You can dodge an air born attack and do one of few things when they land…You can grab,dodge kick,super,or start your kick dust combo…

Second is your basic fighting and setups…S yama can be real tricky due to his ability to fake you out real good…I like using a quick charge fake into serpeant slash when enemies jump…roll…or run in at me…Also charge fake kick dust serpeant slashe in close…(When I say charge fake it’s tapping charge real fast over and over to bait them into your dodge setup or basic move)Dont forget using your low jump for nice pokes and your Aplhpa Counter when you got it…

3rd is using your supers…When you need to charge that shit up and when they jump punish especially with no air defense A,C,N,S…And when your in desperation charge that shit up…If u find you are having trouble getting charge time due to being rushed down run away and charge up…use your S dodge knock down move for time…or just sweep back up and charge…when close with S yama dodge into grab super in close is nice…

Thats just a few things you guys can do with S-Yama…and can apply to basic yama strats…I hope it helps…Peace…

Need help vs. Sagat. Sagat’s long reach is destroying me, and his c.Hp is devasting to the guard damage. Any advice?

well if ur quick enough… s. FK, c. FP and s. FP can be command countered. If u play K/P Groove, JD/Parry, Sweep works well… .if he jumps in u have many choices for anti air (refer to Doc B’s last post…)

Thanks for holding it down Jerry…And yeah Yama on Sagat is a good match for Yama…Standing HK is a much better strong attack than Sagat’s HP…and can stuff it…and tigeruppercuts if timed right…Also…when Sagat is crouching…an in close standing HP into Knife or HP serpeant slash is great chip damage and does good damage…and if u got roll…then roll super into his grab super…that always owns…especially…when they are goes crouching HP crazy with sagat…Stay back so you can zone your opponent for serpeant slashes and kick dust…dOnt forget to get real beta and sweep alot…when they are open…Standing MK is real nice too…Hope that helped…
