tbh i never see having options as a bad thing, that way you can always have something that fit your taste when it comes to fg, and not being forced to pay something that you dont like
Anyway for those complaining that the community for SG is small. Try to build it up anyway you can. Get the word out there and bring people together. I don’t understand why putting the blame on the game itself is the excuse why the community is in the state its in. If you want something done then do it yourself. Take the initiative. I’m new to fighters myself and skullgirls is the first one I really wanted to get into. I’m building a local scene and so far its going pretty strong and looking to make it even larger. Just my 0.02 cents D:
Because it is not fun. Great example of this is HnK. When the game was first released in Japan it was HUGE. As more and more 30 to 60 second long combos got discovered, the scene dropped off massively. The vast majority of people do not think 30+ second combos are fun.
I find it funny that you’re incapable of actually understanding another point of view in this entire discussion but hey, wud does I know, I play booty team right~
L.O.L
the “fall” of hnk was for many other reasons different of the length of the combos
primary it was because sega stoped pushing the game on sbo
and belive it or not, sbo basically determinates how much the games are played on ranbants and local tournaments on japan, hell even casuals, just look how sbx got a sudden peak of play when it was featured on sbo, not much games have a strong following that can have a strong scene without being featured on sbo
and btw, hnk despite of all of that has still a descent amount of play on locals, casuals and ranbants wich is something that not many games have the luxury to claim
EDIT
how can you tell me that this is not fucking hype
Don’t confuse the power of a really really good license. One of the challenges for Skullgirls is it essentially had to build up (Getting some help from people who know of MikeZ and fans of Ahad’s work). In comparison HnK and Persona 4 (and Melty for that matter) are/were building off of fairly strong fanbases outside of people playing fighting games. That draws a lot of people in that never would have touched your game otherwise.
Really though, in this case people should expect SkG to level out at about Melty community levels over time. Treat anything above that as a welcome surprise.

Which is kind of depressing, although I guess the states aren't much different (see how much effort the bigger devs put into getting their games at Evo)
I’m not gonna lie: Master Chibi looks like he owns a Pizzeria. He also looks like the type of owner that would leave a horse’s head in my bed if I complained about his pizza.
Welp, I guess I am wrong. I think HnK is a cool game. All I was trying to say is that by the 100th or 1000th time you do/get hit by a 30-60 second combo, it goes from being cool to extraordinarily boring.
Also, that video is hype as far as, I have only seen that combo once, and it looks cool. Let’s not forget, the hypest part of HnK is QMZ, and that dude plays Jagi.
Edit: I’ll admit, KI is pretty damn hype too.
Yeah you pretty much proved my point there pali old chum.
Completely incapable lol
the long-term playability for that game is still questionable based on the limited content and due to it being a novelty game. Honestly from the non-hardcore perspective the game would be dropped from boredom after a week unless you got a buddy nearby until he gets bored as well. Game is still fun for a quick fix
No, they say they would, but they’re largely lying. The small % that would buy it would play it for a few days max.
Good lesson to learn, people are full of shit, especially on the internet.
I love the game to death. It’s probably my favorite fighting game out right now, and I’ll probably get flamed as a scrub for this, but Double makes the game pretty… unfun at the moment. I can deal with it, and hell, I’ll probably end up USING her as an assist/anchor, but it does make me not want to play the game at times. That’s just my $.02
This thread has completely gotten out of hand. Should have been closed pages ago. It has gone from slightly talking about the non-existent scene this game has to everyone just talking about gameplay once again. Thread closed.

Ok, took a weed whacker to this thread and pruned the heck out of it. Open for further discussion. Please try to stay on topic.
Instead of being all negative about the scene I will state what I actually would like to happen to the scene.
Entrants for UFGT were great and it seems that the trend is somewhere in that area still. I just counted and it seems that CEO has just over 50 entrants for SG. Let’s definitely keep it up you guys. Yes, the scene is lacking a bit right now due to some snags with our fellow players wanting to play other games or just not up to taking this game too seriously. Let’s show them all by showing up to Evo and making the SG tourney at Evo one of the biggest side tournies ever. The game has been out for a couple months now and there’s no better time then now to show everyone what this game and we are made of. Instead of waiting for someone to take charge let’s all do so and make this the best fighter yet!

I think EVO side tourney should have a great turnout. The Foehammer sticks alone should guarantee 50+ for all the majors lol
Oh and please oh please oh please SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE BLOG CANOPYKINGDOM.WORDPRESS.COM
I would love to be the hub of all things SG but I need help in turns of people sending me videos to tournaments, stream links, fanart, fucking anything related to SG at all! SPAM THE SHIT OUT OF IT.
Yeah, would be great if we break 100+.
Also seen a few dedicated streams for Skullgirls with mid-high level gameplay such as Jayfordlol. They usually stream alot of exhibitions of themselves playing along with some marvel 3 and other rare poverty fighters you would never hear of. Stream quality is pretty good and great laid-back commentary of themselves playing
Since this has been opened again, and it’s on subject, this makes me think of something that I said a few months prior;
This is the big test of whether ‘serious players’ are enough to carry a game, since there are a number of things that have happened with SkG that has tended to make casuals not stick around.
(Hellfromaboves pre-trimming post was really excellent btw, it hit some pretty big points)
It doesn’t look like too many people talking here are attending Evo (per the banners), but that’s worth repeating. If there’s ever a time to ‘support the game’, the sided tourney at Evo is that time. The game needs the exposure and it needs to look awesome.
thats pretty much exactly how i feel. we will get a good indication of where skullgirls is going dependant on how many entrants there are for the side tournies. i would be surpirsied if theres less than 100 people tbh. as ive said before i hope the game has a good variety of solo/2/3 player teams and that not everybody is simply using double assist. the custom assist feature allows for a lot of versatility and its a shame that the current trends for team compostion dont really reflect that at all.
i really need to get learning ms fortune to pair her with bella in time for evo…
The lack of tourney content to be watched on the web also hurts the games potential for any kind of scene. The lack of interest offline and the inability to spectate and record online kill a lot of the potential draw the game has.
But regardless of that, we going good.
