Anyone else notice that DoA and SC seem to have a lot more female tourney players than other fighters?
More female characters and those series have published top female players.
That’s pretty much what I’m alluding too.
I don’t think it’s a long shot in thinking that Skullgirls probably has also attracted the attention of female players.
How do we get them to attend/participate?
Also, has the PSN/XBL SkullBats organizers reached out to Dustloop or GameFAQs to involve those players?
The really bad rep it has for being sexist/exploitative probably doesn’t help in that market.
Didn’t stop DOA or SC with dress up mode or any other fighter. Ladies love sexy ladies; it’s been proven
Actually, from what I’ve seen, females are all over it. The only thing putting the ones I’ve met off thus far is who the game is marketed toward.
IMO, that’s what’s keeping this game down. It’s marketed toward veteran fighters. Veterans in the tightest way possible, like, you have to have experience with at least 5 fighters (2 out of 5 of them were specific to add to that). The fact that even pre-patch, the IPS’s hugest focus was ingenuity combined with not choking (easier said than done) and tons of resets made some people flock to a certain single character doesn’t help for the veterans…
mod feel free to edit me if I"m drawing this more into the stupid sexism argument again, I won’t mind
Did an informal survey (eg asked a lady friend) on the subject, some gems:
also
Some stuff from Organizational Communications class on culture/organization that is relevant imo
This threads existence answers its own question
No more talk of sexism or anything of the sort please.
Why not discuss it? Have something to hide? You and I, we both have something in common: We both like to lie. But let’s try something new. Let’s try…
Telling the truth.
Someone said something about this game being two months old? … Jeebus it’s only been two months. Continue supporting your local scene if you have one. Don’t be so dramatic, and just keep playing damn it. Oh, and if you go to Evo, support the side tourney. Being a bunch of sad sacks ain’t gonna help!
It is really new indeed. In fact it’s so new that dedicated thread was created a while ago. And there is a chance to get infraction for discussing it in any other place. Just saying.
But seeing that you registered today I think you won’t be really upset in that case, right? =3
And yeah. It’s pretty much the same situation we had before release: it’s up to us to recruit people. Like Chibi said if you want to have a scene - create it. Now you can try and do it. Since the game is you know… Already out.
doing stuff just doesn’t feel fun in skullgirls. that’s why people say it’s boring. much like sf4 and sfxt the movement is slow and clunky and it doesn’t have many fun buttons. unfortunately unlike those games it doesn’t have the benefit of a huge franchise with 20+ years of history and a marketing budget to match behind it, so the game actually has to be good.
it seems like a lot of effort went into working out the system and balance and no effort went into making it feel fun on a visceral level. or maybe they tried but since most of the testers were blazblue players how are they supposed to know what fun is, lol.
Titan Knuckle is pretty damn satisfying, I gotta say.
I wonder how much the scene will change when the patch comes down. It’ll be interesting to see who picks it back up and who drops it afterwards.
While I do like the IPS system, I feel that sometimes it’s finicky with certain combos. Then again, that’s really my opinion, but kudos to those players that can get them off.
I’ll be happy to get back into the game full time when the patch hits. Until then, I’ll probably just hop back in here and there.
And I wish I could go to EVO, but I simply don’t have the money to make the travel to it. Shame, really.
On the topic of female interest in this game, I have some rather interesting information. As I mentioned in another thread I do a little vlog on the youtubes. Outside of it I also do videos for Portal 2 and other games. However according to the statistics my Skullgirls videos have a way large ratio of woman watching them (most 25+ oddly enough) than any of my other series. I’m not sure if that really supports the idea mentioned above (as it’s coming from a relatively small sample size), but it is kind of interesting nonetheless.
As for EVO. I would love to go, but that’s just not possible. Will it be at all possible to get a stream set up for the side trouney? Or even just recordings of the matches?
HellFromAbove will be streaming the side tourney and recording.
subjective
lol, actually many of the people who tested it dont play blazblue at all
and blazblue is fun, that you don’t like a game, it doesn’t mean that others wouldn’t like it, your opinion is not a fact
I have no idea what a ‘fun button’ is.
