Current State of the Skullgirls Scene

^^^ What Chibi said. Thirteen people this week at WNF, and as always missing people who attended other weeks. Lot of new participants this week  . One day, they will all show up on the same day. That would be like 25+ people methinks.

It’s been a while since anyone here stated any sort of dissatisfaction with the /current/ state of affairs with the Skullgirls fanbase. You are preaching to the choir. I think most of the people who are still reading this thread are under this impression, we are merely entertaining ideas on how we can work together to make ourselves a more tight knit group and expose the game in the best possible light to both ourselves and outsiders in the future. To that extent, I’m grateful you’ve been kicking the ball around on the East Coast with the new build, which is definitely commendable.

i’m not implying getting it for a laptop just to take around.

i was using it as one of many pros and incentives to get the game. there are also people holding out on the console version for the PC version simply because PC versions of all fighters are more visually stunning and have higher modding capabilities.

if i had the choice, i’d go with PC over PS3, because of cross platform play + extended longevity + ease of access + universal stick/pad support + etc, etc. the list of PC pros can go on.

if anything, i now see it as 360 vs PC3 simply because both PS3 and PC might as well be considered one in the same.

Shoutouts to the GGPO scene

Is it possible to record some sets between the strong east coast players on the new patch? That would be pretty cool.

One thing is for certain and that is that this game cannot survive on online play.

If you guys are serious about giving this game a healthy tournament life then you need to start supporting it at major tournaments. And I don’t mean showing up to be a pot monster and go 0-2, I mean playing it to WIN. If you know that there’s no competition in your local area then you need to start looking for it at higher levels. Search out the top players and push yourself to beat them.

The number of people in this forum who aren’t going to Evo is really depressing.

Chris G should not be winning tournaments for a game he doesn’t play.

This I don’t blame the game for or even the players. Not everyone can push back plans/school/job to attend Vegas on a specific set of days sadly.

Except if being a pot monster and going 0-2 is what it takes, more power to 'em. Of course people should try to do as well as they can, but you don’t wanna discourage people from going just 'cuz they think they can’t win.

Ok Skullgirls getting praise in Europe in this article.

Loved on how the article boldly says " Skullgirls: 2d Female Demons on Par with StreetFighter"

I’m definately aiming to take down anyone in Australia who’s taking the game seriously. Luckily Melbourne has two majors, so I might get a chance in October. Solid Stef got bodied, not that he takes it seriously. Hoping I get to play Pichy some time.

As for going 0-2, I didn’t make it out of pools at Shadowloo, but I was sure as hell playing to win and training beforehand. It’s more about the attitude than the result in my opinion.

He doesn’t win in New York lol

He does play the game, and he’s got more experience than most of the folks in this thread. He doesn’t live and breath the game like many of us, and he’ll lose to people that know better (or rather people who know more bullshit, exactly what happened at ECT4) but you are out of your gourd if you think he shouldn’t be winning. He’s got a solid set of fundamentals and he continues to pick up the game as he keeps playing.

Also:

It can, but that should only be half the equation, the other half is actually meeting up with others or attending tournaments / holding them.

If he’s winning Tourneys, I think it’s safe to say he plays the game (would be nice if he mentions it, though).

I mean, this isn’t Super Smash Bros. we’re talking about. Skullgirls requires strategy and knowledge of Fighting Game Tech to be successful in it. And at the least knowledge of Special Moves & combos. It’s not like he’s playing Divekick here…

…and NO, I’m not bashing Super Smash Bros! Don’t even start!

Chris G is a monster, placing in so many games.

I heard there were almost 60 entrants at CEO. I think Eternal Blaze got somewhere near top 10. Told me he got beat by NerdJosh and Justin, which is kind of a bummer because I don’t think Justin spends much time with skullgirls. He’s just got strong fundamentals I suppose. This isn’t chutes and ladders; divekick, smash, and skullgirls require strategy to win, albeit different types.

However! With the new game lounge opening up in Eugene I know we’ll have a place for people to come out and play. A few of us may run the skullgirls events around here, so any of the online warriors that haven’t showed up to local casuals could make an appearance.

And he still kicked our asses at WNF… we need to step up our game x.x. That being said, let no one think that Justin doesn’t deserve to win. He does have strong fundamentals and this game is familiar to him I’m sure. He also has great decision making and adaptation. If he got hit with a gimmick or setup, he’d recognize it immediately and kick your ass for trying it again. If you’re winning, you’re winnin’. Can’t argue with the results. Just means everyone around them needs to work harder and play smarter.

I might try to make it over to AU from NZ at some point if there are a few people to play over there. Since skullgirls came out I haven’t been interested in any other fighting games really, but there’s noone to play in NZ.

You know it’s a sad day when

  1. People who I friended just for Skullgirls would rather play the new Spider-man movie tie in game than Skullgirls.

  2. The gameplay thread hasn’t gotten any new posts for an entire day.

I somehow think Spider-man will not have lasting appeal. It’s important that when those who get bored and leave the game do choose to leave the game, that we are still here to play it. Also, it’s been said a couple times, but again yesterday there were more of us than usual playing SG at the local fight night, but none of them were willing to take the plunge into the game until post EVO.

People don’t have the drive to improve, they get bodied and they just give up.
