Current State of the Skullgirls Scene

Is there any hint at all of lobby play in the next few builds? That would be such a huge help ><

Not that I’m aware of, so we have to assume we must work around it. I know several people (Death from Above, Bood(where is he, anyway?)) have the means to stream and have come forward to do so, but it might be worth taking it a little more public and just polling the forum for people with the capacity to stream/record video. I have no idea what we’d be looking at in the venn diagram of “Players we really want to showcase!” and “Players who are able to Stream” and what kind of overlap there is if any.

You have a few SG players in Portland, maybe down at Best Bout? I’m up in WA now, but I’ll be heading back down to the valley in a few days. I’d like to hit up Best Bout sometime, I just have to plan ahead. Got about 3 or 4 good SG players in Eugene, nothing to get excited about. One of them is talking about getting some video capture equipment, but we’ll see.

Mike Z?

Dios X has a good Filia

I work nights so I don’t get to play at any of the events really, leaving 2 hours in sucks balls ><

(and in the name of full discloser disclosure I have to say not really playing the game right now anyways, I just find the concept of trying to understand/working to build the community both extremely interesting and having a bunch of positives even to people not playing)

Lobbys need to be implemented ASAP. All the big daddy titles that have the most people/community has a lobby in it.

It will not happen soon, the guy for that is working on the PC version, also I think it will very hard to add that in the game with only a patch.

The only feautre easy to do is replay, because only you need to record the inputs.

Yeah, lets just pray they can get a green light for another patch once the PC version is done.

I still say the PC version should have a Beta channel that can test out non-final features/patches, since iirc patching the PC version should be way less costly, if not free.

I’d also pay a monthly fee for testing out new features and shit.

MIKE Z. MAKE IT HAPPEN. LET ME THROW MONEY AT YOU.

PC fighting game community… i don’t know anyone who takes fighting games seriously and doesn’t have a ps3 or xbox.

Imo the PC thing is a big waste.

I’ma respectfully disagree on this sentiment. Certainly, the audiences for PC Street Fighter and X Tekken are diminutive in comparison, but there are a lot of factors I think that led to that, not all of which indicate “no one on the PC plays fighting games”.
Not the least of which, both games were out long enough for the average consumer to have them on their ideal consoles (I will agree that most fighting gamers will already own a console, but most gamers, fighting or not, will also own a PC that could likely run Skullgirls), both /still/ have a price point a lot higher than Skullgirls, and they very, very rarely go on significant Steam sales.
However, many of the Poverty games (Blitzkampf, Melty, Vanguard Princess) and GGPO ST indicate that people play fighting games on PC a lot, just not really the big ones (Does Marvel 3 even /have/ a PC port?).
Even if it doesn’t end in a long lasting community, I’m also quite certain that a PC port will easily add another 50k sales of the game, easily…the Steam audience is ginormous, not including the other digital distribution channels the game will be available on.
Mo’ money = Mo’ Characters.

So I’ll argue that this is a worthy port.

Lobbies would be a big help in the game’s popularity, plus it could help seperate Newbs from Advanced players. You can set up a lobby requiring only Solo Combat, or Two-on-Two. That way a new player won’t walk into a match and end up bombarded with top-tier mix-ups and Double’s assist.

You seem to have left out someone… -_-

Your’s truly?

I know I haven’t played that many of you, but I play Fillia the most and I think I’m pretty good with her. If any of you are going to MWC this weekend, I can show you there.

disagree.

impulse buying is a big part of steam. low prices, ease of access, and crossplat will be a huge selling point for PC SG.

And on top of that, for those who own laptops, it also means for a highly portable version of skullgirls.

Bring laptop. Plug in stick. receive bacon.

And those who are highly supportive of skullgirls will probably double dip (or triple dip like i will.) with the PC version simply for being able to help consolidate the community. Like if some guys have only a 360, they can grab the PC version and play with all the PS3 players.

Lol i guess you’re referring to uber hardcore gamers. I wouldn’t really take my laptop somewhere just to play skullgirls when i have the game at home, which is the same with most people. Most people will not purchase something they already have, even though tons of people own a laptop doesn’t mean they would buy the game if you look at views etc. fighting games that have been sold for PC have never gained more popularity than Starcraft, LoL, and WoW. Fighting games are really just meant for console which is what most people have now days, if you like fighting games you probably have a console by now.

The problem with FGC on PC is nobody has taken it seriously, look at SF X Tekken, 5 patchs behind the console versions.

Also if you have a Fat 360 or PS3, It will die eventually or nobody knows if old XBLA and PSN games will be compatible with their next consoles, but in PC It will be for forever.

XBLA2? PSN2? That’s when Skullgirls #R comes out mang.

Right now the only thing ‘wrong’ with this scene / community / whatever is the notion that there shouldn’t be a need to build an actual scene / community to begin with, or that we’ll automatically get fodder like some of the other big games do. You people need some serious devotion / motivation and patience before we get anywhere else.
