Cuphead - Run&Gun Game

ay this game stressed me out yesterday lol. not for being too hard but more so because its been a while since ive played a platformer that needs this much precision and paying attention lol.

game is mega fun though

I think the game is a good mix of being challenging, but not impossible. Most of the bosses aren’t that tough but you do have to learn their patterns and wittle them down. I do kind of wish the enemies had a more pronounced damage flash or a health bar because at certain times I am not sure if I am causing damage or not to forms of the bosses.

I love the originality of this game. A lot of effort hast been put into the artwork, which looks really good. Looking forward to get it.

Completed the game this morning. Clocked in at 5 hours according to steam.

3rd island and final area

[details=Spoiler]The bosses I had the most problems with is the Bee and Mermaid. Goddamn was the Mermaid such a fucking bitch. Any combination of turtle air mines/puffer fishes/triple ghost rush was a PITA. Lets not even talk about stone gaze… fucking hell.

Dice boss was amazing and overwhelming at first but once you get into it it’s a lot more fair than you think. Way less trouble compared to Bee and Mermaid.

Final boss screwed me a few times final phase because his bullshit tears would literally spawn on top of me as I was avoiding chandelier. [/details]

[] I liked running pea shooter and bubble bombs. Felt like that combination was strong for most of the game for a blind run. The charge shot could possibly replace bubble on occasion.
[
] I felt like the smoke bomb was just too good compared to anything else. Extra hit was tempting but I never used it. Having i-frames is just too good.
[*] Overall great game. Loved the music and art style. RNG puts you in a position to where retrying is a good option, which I think isn’t a good thing.

Yea man the bee gave me so much fucking trouble in the plane form. The fist trajectories and randomized platforms were a nightmare. It took me like 30 tries to beat the fucking thing.

how many deaths do you have now?
you can check it out on isle 2 the pool with the face.

I just switch back to pea shooter for the 3rd form.

I’m honestly not really a fan of how RNG based later levels become. Beating them is often more about getting a combination of the right forms one after the other. It is acceptable just because the game is globally short.

Just finished the 3rd island. Who said the mermaid was hard? It’s one of the easiest bosses I played. Just stay on the left side of the screen, go mini-plane to avoid her attacks and shoot her in the face or use EX bomb on the eels later. I found the junkyard robot more annoying to be honest because of the heat seeking bombs and the nonsense the last part is.

Yeah, in the airplane stages going mini-plane is the go-to when you NEED to avoid stuff.

Hm. So far, the parry mechanics seem to be that anything that you can parry has to be pink colored, correct?

I like everything about the art style.

But I can barely finish the classic Megaman games. Is this game too hard for me? Am I too IGN to play it?

I would say this game is def in that classic platformer difficulty.

Not as bad, really. At least early on gives you enough wiggle room so you can figure out wtf you’re doing.

The game is easy earlier on but it becomes very much a slot machine half way through to the point that instead of learning patterns you rather hope that the game picks the easier patterns.
That being said, you should be able to beat it in 10-15 hours even being very bad at it.
In short, don’t be this guy:

I just managed to beat the game on normal difficulty. Last boss took me an unreasonable amount of time between the dumb flame spells and the fact I didn’t get how to avoid getting hit by the giant coin in the last form.
Here’s the bosses rated from harder to easier (imho):
Hard - Beppi The Clown, Grim Matchstick, Rumor Honeybottoms, The Devil
Medium - Cagney Carnation, Hilda Berg, Baroness Von Bon Bon, Djimmi The Great, Dr Kahl’s Robot (+ a couple King Dice bosses)
Easy - everything else

i hear on harder difficulty you unlock more bosses and locations.

Challenge - yes. Annoying - not really. It’s about your skill and reflexes only, not about shitty control or bad game mechanics. It’s fair play. The game is addictive, and not angry from the fact that I lost again and again.

If there is a harder difficulty then that’s the real Cuphead. Extra bosses would explain what they’ve been doing in the nearly 2.5 years since the 2015 E3 trailer.

They underestimated the amount of work it would take to draw frame after frame of animation from what I remember hearing. Plus Microsoft became partnered up with them at some point, so with the extra money they expanded the scope of the game with platforming stages & other extras.

There are no additional bosses in expert mode or after beating it, only some additional variations of previous bosses (Hilda Berg spawned Sagittarius which I never had in regular or simple).
