Whiteshadow: Similar to how Capcom made good additions by putting in Evil Ryu, Oni, and the Twins right? No one wanted Rolento, R Mika, Hugo, Alex, Elena, Q, or Poison. We also didnt want trials for the four new characters in AE either. I also loved the addition of Arthur, Hsien Ko, Modok, and Jill. Who wants Cable? Cyclops? or Gambit? Seriously, find me people to say they WANTED Dr. Strange, Firebrand, Vergil, Nova, and Iron Fist. Not that they like/can deal with it…but that they wanted them. LOL. Speak for myself about the characters that people wanted? I’m pretty sure I do more reading around forums and boards than you do. I enjoy reading about what is going on and I find video game science to be very interesting. No one wanted Rocky Raccoon, Vergil, Iron Fist, or Nova dude. Is Vergil and Nemesis interesting adds? Yeah, but that doesnt mean they are GOOD additions. Throwing more characters into a game does not make it better.
Phoenix Wright and Strider were the only two characters demanded from the list of 12. On top of that no one from the first two titles that we wanted to see return to the series did. (Mega, CC, Gambit) That’s like saying you’re going to remove Sim from ST, or Sub Zero from MK III, or Ragna from Blaz Blue. People like to see a form of consistency.

I reserve my true judgment of course until a game comes out but honestly guys open your eyes a little bit and think outside the box for a second. Is it really that far fetched to think that this game is going to be worse? Adding new moves, characters, new stages, (adding SNOW to the same level??? haha) and making the interface look different does /= good new game to play.
Why am I basing my opinion on more of a negative aspect? Because both MVC3 and arcade edition are ass at a competitive level.
The only thing that Capcom has done lately that makes sense/I think is a wonderful step to improving user interactions is Third Strike. Why?
-Keeping the game the same exact way while bringing in trials, a COMMAND LIST, and different modes for new age players to learn the game. It’s the perfect combination.
-Introducing GGPO and making sure online is rock solid. LOL MVC3 no spectator and laggy connections for AE and MVC3
-Direct youtube uploads. How sick is that???
-Multiple ways to view and play the game based on preference. (What game has done this lately? None. Pretty sure MVC3 is strictly run on HD Widescreen settings)

Ultimate Marvel, it’s the Super to MVC3’s vanilla. The earthquake in japan ruined their dlc plans, they had to move the funding around so they couldn’t release the patches and characters when they wanted because nothing was set in stone. Thats why the AE dates didn’t change, they were set for a while now. As for the characters, Phoenix I’m upset about even as an Ace Attorney fan, he’s a pacifist but whatevs, I’ll still mess with him, I’m freaking AMPED FOR NOVA. NOVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. In case anyone doesn’t know who Nova is but you’re curious enough to read stuff, look up Annihilation: Nova and that whole series. It’s long but worth it, Super Skrull is in it and his alt they announced is from that arc. Highlights of the Annihilation story. Nova watches billions die, later he rips someone’s insides out through their mouth. He’s kind of bad ass.
You Fail Don’t Jump. Doctor Strange is literally the only other character I wanted in Marvel. I didn’t care about anyone else but him and now that he’s in its a day 1 buy. How you gonna sit there and say nobody wanted virgil or ironfist. I heard that shit all the damn time and Hawkeye should have been in vanilla MvC3 instead of Taskmaster anyways.

the dlc characters should be in the game as well i guess if you have them dl it transfers over or am i wrong?

I too am a little upset that the game is coming out in Nov. Not really because its 9 months after the first game came out, but its because they never really gave mvc3 the chance to grow into its own due to all the new kids complaining. If mvc2 came out today, i 100% guarantee there would be super mvc2 or some shit due to the complaints about ahvb, sent, mag tempest, strider/doom etc. mvc2 never would have turned into what it is now, just as mvc3 wont either. i guess thats what i get for growing up with arcades, can’t update those, you just learn to deal with it.
The only new character they announced that i am not looking forward to is strider, because has already been in a bunch of games. all of the new characters (including frank cause i like 95% of the country didn’t play TVC) sound good/look good to me. Rocket Racoon is the traditional random weird character that the Japanese creators love (see: modok, hakan, blanka, half the cast of mvc2, q, 12 etc) so no surprise someone like him was added. I was also bummed when they DIDN’T add Doc Strange after adding Dormammu in vanilla.

I believe I said this earlier. The earthquake made Capcom change their plans with MVC. It wasn’t just the fans. There were balance patches in the works and shit like that but when that earthquake struck everything changed. Also Essex keep in mind Marvel chooses what characters go in, not Capcom. They had to BEG to get Shuma in and Marvel made them put him as DLC. They’re trying to keep it relevant with the comics and shit. They’re using RR and Nova because of Annihilation and Annihilation Conquest, even though those came out in 2008/2009 I believe, they’re regaining popularity, same with Super Skrull’s Alt Costume.
I do get what you’re saying though Essex, Different generations. If they had just patched out the DHC glitch and fixed phoenix I would’ve enjoyed vanilla Marvel 3 more. Oh well, I need to play as Nova so I’ll be spending that 40 bucks. No regrets.
Needles link where you got the info that the earthquake affected the dlc for these games. If you honestly believe that it did get affected your getting trolled hard. First off osaka is some thing like 100s of miles from Tokyo and Tokyo is 150 miles away from tohouko. osaka isn’t even remotely part of the same electric grid as Tokyo so that kansai region of japan isn’t experiencing any blackouts at all. Second capcom is a software company so they re not having to deal with electronics shortages like some other companies are dealing with.
Its actually pretty funny. My friend was telling me his thoughts on new games and patches in them and he posted a thread here on srk about it. He was talking about how he can’t stand patches and new iterations and such because it doesn’t actually allow the games to grow. He proceeded to then get blown up by everybody who posted in the thread saying that he was stupid and that he approves of glitches and stuff. When the thing is, the glitches and bugs or exploits that people used is what made the games so damn interesting in the first place. Funny thing is my friend didn’t even grow up in the arcade era, and he thinks this.
But now at the first sign of something a little overpowered we get the masses bitching about how it needs to be nerfed or taken out of the game instead of just learning to get around or counter it. Now its just why learn a counter measure when you can just wait for the next patch or whatever? I’m going to be honest, the only reason I’m mad hype for UMvC3 is literally only because Doctor Strange is in. If they could just make a fighting game and the only thing they do with it is add new characters from time to time I bet we would all freaking love it. That’s my only reason for liking the game updates that capcom throws at us on an annual or now bi-annual basis, the new characters. Because we can all admit that we do get tired of the same characters after awhile.
