CT Thread | Weekly Thursdays 7pm Fire & Dice Games Milford CT

It is in CT and it is in windsor and they are casuals. I believe IronTrigger aka Sho runs them, pretty sure if you send him a PM he’ll give you all the details.

As for tournaments stratford is the place to go for CT now, but there is also the Takashi Cup tournament in middeltown [Oct 1, 2011] Takashi Cup 10/1/2011 (Middletown, CT) which is a bit closer for us northern CT folks.

Going to tournaments isn’t all about just testing your skill. Its also great to meet the people in the scene and get a chance to talk to them and improve your skill by learning from advice they can potentially give you. Great way to make friends too, I’ve met a lot of new people from playing at tournaments. Also you don’t have to enter in the tournament if you don’t want to. Just showing up and supporting the scene and watching some good matches are worth the usual $5 venue and you get to play casuals as well.

Thanks a lot for the info, i’ll send him a PM in a couple minutes. This sounds exactly like what I was looking for, to play people that know what they’re doing and actually make some sort of progress, rather than sit at home online and not learn anything. I just didn’t want to go to a tournament and get kinda edged out because I suck, thats all. $5 is not bad at all for a full day of playing either.

I wouldn’t worry too much about being edged out. CT is usually pretty good at welcoming new people and if we’re talking shit its usually to people we know and all in good fun. As long as you show effort people are usually willing to help you out. If you just complain about stuff… well then things might start getting alil hostile lol.

My thoughts on the next tournament at Gaming Etc.:

It can’t be held on the 8th-9th (same weekend as Seasons’ Beatings) or the 15th-16th (same weekend as NYCC which lots of people from here attend). So either of the last two weekends of the month will work. But my opinion is that you should run AE/MvC3/3s on October 22nd and then MK/Gears 3/KOF 13 on either October 29th or 30th. This way, you’re not asking people who are interested in multiple games to give up their ENTIRE weekend (and Howard for that matter, who I’m not sure can have an entire weekend off to stream?).

You can’t pair Street Fighter games with non Street Fighter games; so for example, if you’re doing AE/MvC3 on Saturday, then 3s and ST should also be on Saturday if you’re running them. Players aren’t going to be willing to sacrifice their entire weekend for a non-major, and forcing them to choose between Saturday or Sunday if you put 3s or ST on Sunday is only going to hurt overall turnout. I myself would be torn between what day to attend since I’d love to watch/do commentary on Saturday but would want to play 3s/ST and commentate for those games on Sunday as well, but I can’t give up two whole days from working either.

As for MK and Gears of War 3, I hope you realize that Gears has a huge following and IF we can actually find a way to appeal to that hardcore crowd, you won’t have room to run anything else (considering it will run on LAN and need multiple monitors for just one team, I believe traditionally it’s run 4 on 4). But I do agree that King of Fighters 13 would be a good fit as another tourney to run with MK, the only problem being it doesn’t get released until October 25th and therefore you’d have to run the tournament the last weekend of October.

On a side note, unfortunately for me neither weekend above really works because both of those weeks there are 4 or more major releases I need to play, one of which being KOF 13. Not even sure i’d get a chance to touch the game before I went to the actual tournament. That being said, I doubt I could give up an entire weekend to play fighting games either of those weeks, so that is part of the reason I recommend splitting up the event into two separate weekends.

Seasons beatings is the same weekend as NYCC.

what ever happened to the fake blackout?

My 2 cents:

AE + 3S (SF fanatics)
MVC3 + Gears of War (The fun games)
MK9 and KOF 13 (The new up and coming games people should give a chance)

Sorry, but I still strongly to this day do not think shooting games are good competitive games. Each and every single shooting game ever made is the exact same concept and the exact same meta game. Camp the best items, camp the best location, dont die, and never let the other team get those items. GG’s.

Also, I think running more than two games at an event is really blah unless it is a major or a really big event with loads of set ups and room. People also like to get their casuals and have a Tv or two set aside for casuals. Project Failure did this and it works wonderfully. When people get knocked out of an event they do not like to stand around and be doing nothing for 2-3 hours. They want to practice and play with others who have been knocked out and get their practice in.

in all honesty i know the 3s entrants will e about 14-16 people doesnt matter when its run alot of people wont enter compared to the newer games

I did 3 ft5s for money with him like a month ago plus a bunch in casuals. We also played the tournament match out and I played a ft3 with him.
Although i wanted to play marlin pie in a long set, I havent played that guy since PF :frowning:

my fault, i got it confused with Devastation which is also supposed to be a fairly large scale tournament that will be streamed. we basically want to avoid having the New Challengers stream go up against any other major ones so we can establish ourselves.

Are you actually going to Season’s Beatings?

The second part of my post wasnt even only about you though. I know it came from in reference to you but more just a mindset i know others have, that i still dont understand.

This might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever read.

My friend who graduated from Yale was a top player in Quake and is insanely good at the Halo games. I’ve seen him beat people only using Grenades.

Shooting games are the exact same thing with every iteration. The strategy, concept, and approach are always the same. It is knowing the exact time for when items will spawn, camping the best items and locations, not dying ever, game over.

Please present evidence showing that this is not the case.

I’m not 100% certain. Its a money issue. If I got it, I’m gonna go. I’m gonna ride and room with the VSM crew.

In halo yes, knowing spawn times for weapons is crucial. In COD there’s no weapon respawn. That game takes more teamwork in a competitive setting. Playing online is just seeing who.can get the most kills.

I guess we are looking at Oct 22-23 Nov 5-6 for the next two tournament

Hmmmm prob Oct 22nd for 3s/ae/st and the last MVC3 tournament
Nov 5th for the MK9/xx/xx tournies taking suggestions on the additional tournaments still Blazblue? GG:AC? KOF13? WWE All Stars? Etc Etc

Fighting games are the exact same thing with every iteration. You just punch, kick and throw shit at your opponent until one of you dies or the time runs out.

GoW3 horde mode transformed into CoD zombies wtf

never compare the two.

edit: Hi dan!
