I would put akuma over yang in the rankings with chun/yun/ken on top then makoto/akuma over yang
actually DJ what makes yang great is EX SLASHES and a great frame trapping game that just leads to more punishes to slashes. You might not have noticed but he deals alot of stun etc etc etc. K.O plays a pretty good yang now but before BOSS was that yang player in japan

Walter-I really think that Akuma as a character on paper is better than Yang. His space control, oki game, dmg output, kara throw, supers, and pokes are all better than Yang. It all goes back to the core aspect of “he doesnt place as well at tournaments” blah blah blah though at the end of the day.
In a game that is RANDOM you need to have a strong offense and he definitely has that. At the same time though in an offensive random game having low health is reallllly bad.
so its like
Pro: top 2-3 offense in the game
Con: worst health in the game in a random/offensive game
Pro: doesn’t matter as much because at highest level of play top players are always maximizing dmg output regardless of minimal health differences between yang/yun/ibuki compared to Akuma.
Like, a good example would be I hate certain match ups due to health but i love others due to a lack of solid reversals/oki answers against Akuma.
Examples: I also HATE Dudley VS Oro and Dudley VS Alex BUT I love Akuma VS Alex and Akuma VS Oro.

yang has a scarier wake up game than akuma, matter of fact I think he is the only one with a combo off of uoh(or if you roll throw he can combo off of fwd+mk into st lk ex slashes). Not to mention dive kicks and the command grab(can combo from this). Also he deals out tons of stun and akuma stuns easy

That’s Akuma’s entire point. On paper, he is supposed to be the best / one of the best characters in almost every incarnation he has.
Reality - Thats on PAPER. Add the human factor and he isnt nearly as good a character. In AE, 3S, or otherwise.
Case in point, Akuma is supposedly “top tier” in AE but how many people do you see even doing well in major tourneys with him? 2? 3?
This is why I strongly believe technical and difficult characters within the past few years have not been good characters. In an age where “stupid easy!” is so prominent…its tooooo hard to win these low health, high execution characters. Combofiend talked about this once on Cross Counter when Mike Ross and Gootecks were away or something and it was very well thought out. He mentioned how Daigo using Yun was such a giant fear for the community because not only is Daigo playing a top tier character, but hes arguably the best SF player all around, and its easy as well. So when you put that all into a blender…its really the best formula. People today often say, “Why limit yourself? Why make the road hard for yourself?” It truly does not benefit anyone to use a lower tier character…at all. So why do it?
I personally think it is more fun and exciting to play a non top tier character. I feel like people respect and acknowledge people, sports teams, etc that are the sleepers and could care less about the Lakers, Celtics, Yankees, Pats, Yuns, Chuns, V-13’s, Phoenixs but get really excited for the 76ers, Knicks, Cubs, Raiders, Oros, Tagers, and Hulks.
People like what’s different and stands out. You’re either a competitor or you play for fun. You play a low tier to prove a point and you play a top tier to be the best and care about nothing but winning.
I’ve always been a high mid tier kind of guy but in one case…with ibuki in ssf4 i stuck with her despite her being low. I don’t like to be a front runner and pick god tier like everyone does…but at the same time, i try not to give myself shit tier.
